While driving down interstate 5-south, the steering felt stiff and almost like it stuck into a certain position. It required far more force than normal to move the steering wheel from its position which almost caused me to change lanes to the right without wanting to. This is not the first time this has happened, but it was a particularly dangerous instance since the steering wheel stuck several degrees to the left of center which would have directed to into the center divide. I took the car to the dealership in march 2024 to discuss the issue and they acknowledged that two other integras had come into the dealership for a similar problem. Not having absolute control of the vehicle is extremely dangerous and the steering sticking into a certain position without lane keep assist influencing the steering is a design flaw and puts drivers at risk.

2017 Acura RDX
  • Date of Incident: Mar-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, and POWER TRAIN

I am writing to report a concerning issue with my Acura RDX 2017, which I believe poses a significant safety risk and requires immediate attention from your organization. The problem I encountered while driving jeopardizes the safety of both myself and others on the road. About five days ago, while driving at approximately 20 mph, my vehicle began emitting loud, thunderous sounds, accompanied by intense vibrations that shook the entire car. Additionally, it seemed to struggle when shifting gears, particularly into second or third gear. Despite my careful and gradual acceleration, the car exhibited signs of a malfunction within its transmission system. Furthermore, at around 35 mph, the engine suddenly revved to over 3000 rpm, causing the vehicle to accelerate without any input from me. This acceleration occurred even though my foot was not on the gas pedal, making the car difficult to control and putting me at risk of colliding with other vehicles or objects. The unpredictability of these incidents is deeply alarming and could lead to serious accidents if not addressed promptly. I purchased this vehicle in December 2023 and have maintained it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. However, when I inquired about the timing belt at the dealership, I was assured that it had passed inspection. Despite this, the recent malfunctions suggest a more serious underlying issue that needs immediate attention. Crucially, there were no warning lights, messages, or other indications of a problem prior to these incidents, underscoring the sudden and unexpected nature of the issue. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter urgently and thoroughly. I request that you initiate a recall of affected vehicles and implement necessary repairs to address the identified defects. Swift action is essential to ensure the safety of all motorists who may be affected by this issue.

Since i purchased the integra over a year ago, i’ve routinely experienced a sticky/jerky steering issue. When driving, the steering wheel will jerk to the left or right continuously and feel stuck in position and difficult to correct. Not only do i have to consistently “fight” the steering wheel to keep the car aligned, i have had the vehicle veer into another lane and swerve towards cars in the neighboring lane due to the jerking motion. Overall, this creates a difficult driving experience - my focus is consumed by the steering, i feel i have limited control of the vehicle, and an overwhelming sense of being uneasy/unsafe when the issue is prevalent. Passengers feel it too. This is most notable when highway driving or going above ~45/50 mph and, oddly, seems to be more prominent in certain weather, particularly during warm, but not hot, days (60-80 degrees). No warning signs or vehicle setting notices display. Issue persists regardless of altering vehicle modes and settings. I have reported this to the acura dealership twice. The first was early on and i had no reference of others with this experience. The second time, i expressed there are numerous reports of this online. They noted it, stated everything appeared normal, and that they drove the vehicle and couldn’t recreate it, but my acura app trip history did not reflect this. The concern was dismissed. This is my 3rd acura sedan - i’ve had an incredible experience with acura, my dealership, and previous vehicles. I commonly recommend them to friends/family. That said, it takes a lot for me to feel strongly enough to report an issue/negative review, but this driving experience is simply unacceptable and potentially dangerous.

2016 Acura MDX
  • Date of Incident: Dec-13, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: SEAT BELTS

I was involved in an accident 12/13, 2023. No airbags deployed, however, my seatbelt locked up. A new seatbelt was ordered through Acura soon thereafter 12/23. At the time this was ordered, I was told that there was no ETA as there is a national backorder. Fast forward to today, my car has been fully repaired and is still sitting in the local repair shop because there are still no seatbelts available. I have filed complaints with Acura corporate, and have a claim number that I would be more than happy to provide. Acura corporate has advised the repair shop that it will be at least six months to one year until a seatbelt is is available I also have documentation on the “ expedited order” that was placed for the seatbelt in 12/2023. The insurance company, USAA, is now looking at totaling my car simply because we cannot find a seatbelt. The local Acura dealers, and our car repair shop cannot believe that cannot seem to get a seatbelt for me, and it’s been four months. On my research online, it appears that Acura may be legally obligated to manufacture, and provide this part. I wanted to report this to the proper regulatory agency to ensure that this has been documented. The car is completely drivable, given the lack of safety restraint. I also am aware that I am not alone in this complaint, as many other MDX owners are experiencing the same I am not sure how to proceed from here and I’m hoping that you may be able to help Thank you so much for your time and consideration

The steering becomes “sticky” and is resistant to turning both at low and high speeds. This results in situations where significant force must be applied to the wheel to create a direction change. It has resulted in sudden movements after “breaking” the steering wheel free from its “stuck” position in the middle. It even affects driver assist systems, which will also demonstrate difficulty managing a steering wheel that gets “stuck” in the middle. The cold and wet seems to make it worse. However this has been an ongoing problem for the last several thousand miles and is definitely getting worse as the miles go by. I have taken the car to the dealership and was informed this is a known issue with no available repair. Seems to be a substantial safety concern that should warrant a repair.

This car only has 2500 miles on it. When it was just driven a few weeks in january, 2024, the car would start jerking while driving down the highway going a consistent 55-60 miles per hour. We took it back to the dealer in st. Louis and they told us they were unable to duplicate. We drove it a few more weeks and in february the jerking was more pronounced and more often so we took it back. Again, they said they could find nothing wrong with it. It ran pretty good until mid march when i drove it to florida for a 6 week break in my wife’s cancer treatment. The car jerked a lot and broke down completely 3 times. I was able to restart the first two times but the third time it took a while and i was stalled in heavy traffic on [xxx] north of gainesville. Luckily, a trucker pulled up behind me and put on his flashers to keep me from being hit. After sitting there several minutes, it did restart and i drove to ft. Myers where i took it to the acura dealer there, scanlon acura. They, too, ran diagnostics and said nothing showed up. I drove it to our condo and it died before i could turn into my driveway. I called triple a to come tow it back. This time they gave me a loaner, said they checked it out and the manager drove it over night to his home. They said it had water in the gas tank and we had to pay for the draining as that is not covered. When i picked the car up the maintenance sheet also stated a leaky valve but said there was no water in the gas tank. I had to request my money back and asked about the valve. Was told it was a mistake. On saturday, [xxx], my wife was driving to an appointment down [xxx] and after about 35 min, the car started jerking badly so she pulled into a parking lot when it shifted into park on its own and died. She had to have it towed backed to scanlon acura. They they called yesterday and said the computer says nothing is wrong. This car is a death trap and we have to return home for her treatment in a few weeks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of inform
