    At 40k miles, i've been noticing the symptoms of a dying mech unit (bang/jerk to stop, shifting from drive to reverse), etc. Those symptoms happened when i pull up from stationary, put the car in reverse. Car will also throw transmission error code on dashboard and put in "limp mode" from time to time. Since it was out of warranty, audi quoted me $5800 to replace the entire mechatronic unit. Many threads on the audi forum confirm the issue was due to quality control on audi's part, and audi refused to issue a callback or pay for the expense for out-of-warranty cars with faluty 7-speed dsg transmission.

    Experienced turbocharger failure when coming to a stop after getting off the interstate after approximate 2. 5 hours of driving. Engine died as car slowed down so suspect the turbos failed while driving but ram air from interstate speeds was adequate to maintain the engine until it slowed down. The extended run time with failed turbos resulted in metal fragments in the oil so after inspection, the engine was replaced under an extended warranty with a used engine. This engine has approximately 58k miles on it and i think the replacement engine had 11k or so on it. This occurred on dec 26th, 2019. This past february, 2021, noted an odd whistle sound from the turbo but no warning lights and slightly sluggish acceleration. The following day it seemed to run fine on my way to work but on the way back it ran rough and then died so i had to steer off the road into a parking lot as i lost power steering. Further investigation determined that one turbocharger had completely failed (the turbine wheel was completely sheered off) and the other had excessive play in the shaft. The 75k factory maintenance had just been performed in decker, 2020, as had the 65k maintenance earlier in the year. Since the replacement engine was no longer covered under a used parts warranty or my extended warranty, the cost of turbo replacement was entirely out of pocket. I also had to pay for some extra work on the first engine replacement due to discovery of extra work required for the swap that wasn't in the initial quote to the extended warranty company.

    At times, the "stop-start" system seems to falter when the vehicle has slowed to almost a full stop, but not quite. If i try to accelerate i get a few seconds when nothing happens. I feel that it is either a transmission caught between shifts or an engine falter. I have mentioned this to the dealer, but was told that "that's how it is".

    ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT ABLE TO BE TURNED. THIS PREVENTED THE DRIVER FROM MOVING THE VEHICLE FORWARD AND STEERING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE PROBLEM RESOLVES WITH THIS RESET. THE INTERVALS BETWEEN THESE EPISODES HAVE BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS. THERE ARE NO SPECIFICALLY COMMON VARIABLES, OTHER THAN A LOWER SPEED - START/STOP AS IN WAITING TO CROSS A LINE OF TRAFFIC OR PROCEEDING THROUGH A STOP SIGN. I HAVE TAKEN THE Q3 TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS THE FIX. RECENTLY THE CAR HAS BEEN MAKING A VIBRATING NOISE WHEN COASTING, AND IT LOST POWER IN AN INTERSECTION ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND EVEN ACTIVATED THE PARKING BRAKE. WE ALWAYS DISABLE THE CAR'S AUTO START-STOP FEATURE, AS WE SUSPECTED THAT TO BE INVOLVED, BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. WE FEEL THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND THE AUDI DEALER SEEMS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. OUR FIRST AUDI PURCHASE, WE HAD ONE OF THE FIRST 2020 Q3 TO ARRIVE IN THE US AND FOUR SHUT-OFF INCIDENTS SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCT 2019. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN LESS THAN ANTICIPATED DUE TO COVID, REMOTE SCHOOL/WORK AND NO TRAVEL. PERHAPS MORE FREQUENT DRIVING WOULD HAVE ACCELERATED THE CLAIM PROCESS FOR US. IRONICALLY, WE CHOSE THE CAR FOR ITS SAFETY FEATURES PRIMARILY FOR OUR TEEN/YOUNG ADULT DRIVERS. THE CAR HAS SHUT DOWN FOR THREE DRIVERS, TWICE FOR OUR TEEN AND ONCE FOR EACH OF THE PARENTS, SO WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTS AS DESCRIBED AND PERSISTS DESPITE ATTEMPTS TO FIX IT. EACH TIME WE FELT IT WAS RESOLVED DUE TO A LONG INTERVAL BETWEEN INCIDENTS, BUT TODAY WAS MORE FRIGHTENING THAN OTHERS DUE TO THE INTERSECTION WHERE IT OCCURRED. THIS COULD CAUSE A CRITICAL ACCIDENT.

    2017 Audi A3 SEDAN- WITH AROUND 47,000 MILES -STALLED OUT IN DRIVE THRU AND AT A RED LIGHT INTERSECTION. TWICE. ALMOST GOT IN 2 ACCIDENTS WHILE DRIVING ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE ON A CITY ROAD. ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH WAS BLINKING. CODE READER INITIALLY WAS READING P0300, P0301 AND P0302 .. MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRES. TOWED CAR TO AUDI, AND THEY DID COMPLETE MAINTENANCE SERVICE. RAN CODES AND NOW ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THE CODE IS P0172 BANK 1 SYSTEM TOO RICH. I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) SOFTWARE AND WHICH CAN AFFECT AIR / FUEL MIXTURE WHICH MAKES ME THINK THAT THIS RECALL WAS PROBABLY THE CAUSE, BECAUSE PO172 CODE CAN BE DUE TO THE AIR/ FUEL MIXTURE GETTING TOO FAR FROM FACTORY SPECS. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 6 WEEKS, THE TRANSMISSION WAS FINALLY REPLACED BY AUDI BUT THEY ARE STILL SAYING THAT I NEED A NEW FUEL CANISTER (THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS IN 2016, AND MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2016 BUT IS A 2017 MODEL) ? I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER 2017 AUDI A3 SEDAN OWNER COMPLAINTS HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THIS WEBSITE AND OTHER WEBSITES. I WAS UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 1/25/2021, BUT I LIVE 2 HOURS AWAY AND I WAS UNDER QUARANTINE SO BOOKED APPOINTMENT LOCALLY (I THINK ON 1/22/2021 WITH VOLKSWAGEN BUT SCHEDULING WAS A WEEK OUT AND ON APPOINTMENT DATE THEIR ENTIRE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS OUT BECAUSE OF COVID OUTBREAK BY THAT TIME IT WAS TOO LATE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A TIME AND DATE STAMPED VIDEO OF THE CAR HAVING ISSUES.
