Consumers have filed a total of 5 complaints related to Audi FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING.
When driving with the cruise control on, the vehicle automatically adjusts the speed to the speed limit. On occasion, when driving at freeway speeds, it will pick up the speed limit from a cross street (over or under pass). This happened on a recent trip with the vehicle set at the speed limit of 75, then suddenly and automatically braking because it detected a 45 mph cross street. With most traffic moving at 75 mph, this was extremely dangerous to suddenly brake for no apparent reason with people right behind us. We can no longer us our cruise control because of this. The audi dealership could not replicate this issue. It only happened to us in a small number of circumstances, but was dangerous and frightening when it did. The automatic speed adjust also apparently cannot be turned off. The dealership did mentioned they were aware of another audi vehicle they had seen with the same issue.
Forward collision engaged on a highway with no other vehicles or obstacles near. Brakes slammed on, and vehicle came to a complete stop in the roadway.
The automated emergency braking randomly kicks in.. This has happened two times in the past 3 months. Nothing was around to cause the aeb to activate. This could have caused a serious accident if someone was driving behind me at the time. It jolted passengers in the car. The car came to a complete stop and nothing in the vicinity, no oncoming traffic, no pedestrians, no animals....
ON SUNDAY FEBRUARY 21, 2021 AT ABOUT 330PM ON RT 30 IN AMSTERDAM NY WE WERE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC LESS THAN 30MPH. AS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STARTED TO SLOW IN TRAFFIC I STARTED TO BRAKE MY A6, AT ABOUT 20MPH AND ABOUT 1.5 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THE AUDI PRESENSE COLLISION WARNING SCREEN ACTIVATED WITH A RED SCREEN IN THE DRIVER'S CLUSTER AND A "CHIME" THE CAR THEN WENT INTO EMERGENCY COLLISION STOPPING MODE...CAR'S ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED BRINGING MY CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME NEVER STOPPED AND I WAS AT A DISTANCE THAT I HAD COMPLETE CONTROL OF MY CAR WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH DISTANCE TO SLOW OR STOP MY CAR SAFELY. THE CAR BEHIND ME CAME WITHIN INCHES OF REAR ENDING MY CAR. I'M SPECULATING THAT THE DRIVER BEHIND ME DID NOT EXPECT ME TO STOP DEAD IN TRAFFIC ANYMORE THAN I DID. TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND DISTANCE DID NOT WARRANT THE PRESENSE TO WARN AT ALL LET ALONE ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY COLLISION RESPONSE BRAKING. THIS IS THE THIRD MALFUNCTION OF SAFETY SYSTEMS I HAVE REPORTED TO NHTSA RE: MALFUNCTIONS OF ADVANCED SAFETY SYSTEMS. AUDI USA IS UNRESPONSIVE.

THE CONTACT STATE THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENTLY ENGAGED THE COLLISION BRAKE SYSTEM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE FIRST WAS THE EVENING OF FEBRUARY 12TH AT APPROXIMATELY 19:00 EST. WHILE TRAVELING SOUTH ON LAHSER ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES IN THE AREA THE VEHICLE SENSED A POTENTIAL FRONT END COLLISION AND APPLIED FULL BRAKES. THIS CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE THE SECOND EVENT WAS MARCH 4 AT APPROXIMATELY 16:00 EST. WHILST DRIVING HOME I CAME TO A STOP AT THE LIGHT WITH A TRUCK IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. NO WARNING WAS DETECTED. AS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DEPARTED THE VEHICLE WARNING SYSTEM CAME ON. IT DID NOT APPLY BREAKS AT THIS TIME JUST A FALSE POSITIVE SENSOR WARNING. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS PASSED OFF AS THE RESULT OF ICE, WHILE NOTICE SENSOR WARNING WAS EVIDENT THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER ON MARCH 4 AND NO RESPONSE HAS BEEN RECEIVED. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE HAS TWICE PROVIDED UNSAFE ACTIONS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE I HAVE A CHILD IN THE VEHICLE AND HAVE AN INCIDENT THAT HARMS AN INDIVIDUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUDI OF ROCHESTER HILL 45441 DEQUINDRE ROAD ROCHESTER HILL MICHIGAN 48307 PHONE NUNBER (248)-997-7400 TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE COLLISION SYSTEM MALFUNCTION DUE TO ICE ON THE SENSOR. THE VIN INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.
