Consumers have filed a total of 167 complaints for Q5 models.
I was driving on city streets and steering became very difficult. Turning corners at slow speed was very tough and jerky. Control of the car was very difficult the slower the speed. Highway wasn't too bad but you it still took more effort than was normally expected/experienced. Firestone service noted a opening in the upper steering shaft. They spray lubricated the shaft and it appears to be back to normal, but since there the shaft is open to weathering this is not a permanent fix.
I was about to get on the freeway when my car's electrical system failed and i got several warning lights. The braking/stop start system, lights and a few other lit up. I pulled off the road and had it towed. The dealership said water (rain) got in through my sunroof and shorted my system (warranty won't cover). There are several class action suits re. This issue already and audi knows about it, but there's no recall and cars have stopped suddenly on the freeway. It's very dangerous.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 Audi Q5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT-OFF AS THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ENGINE FAILURE - CONTACT DEALER, MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AUDI TULSA (4208 S MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74145) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DEFECTIVE FUEL SENSOR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR AND THE FUEL TANK AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,260.
About a month ago after a drive where the engine got up to operating temperature i received a warning on the dashboard saying shutoff engine and check coolant level it is low. This problem continues to happen, spontaneously, while i? M driving. Also, the problem continues to occur despite coolant levels being within normal parameters.
While on an extended trip at freeway speed in the vehicle, the "add oil" indicator light flashed on the dash. On may 11 2018, i took the vehicle in to rusnak audi in pasadena, ca. They told me that a new "sensor" was required , as the oil was at normal level, and replaced it with a new one. In jan of 2021 i took a short trip at freeway speed with the vehicle the "add oil" lamp flashed on again. I again brought the vehicle into rusnak audi in pasadena, ca. On april 22, 2021. The service department told me, after a day and a half, that they were unable to determine the cause of the malfunction since the actual oil level in the engine was at a normal level. I tried to make a point to the service technician that if i ignore the warning light, how can i be sure i won't burn out the engine due to an actual low oil level. The vehicle has no manual ( physical) dipstick. As it stands now, i am driving the vehicle with a " add oil warning lamp lit on the dash and no way to physically check the oil. This seems inappropriate to me as if i burn out the engine, i have to pay for it. Rusnak audi seems unconcerned! Please advise.
When pressing the brake pedal at times you hear a metal clang sound like something hitting a tin can. This happens often but is not consistent. I have video evidence of this as well as have seen this item discussed in detail of audi forums. Audi claims regardless of my evidence nothing can be done. My concern is it has to do something with the brake and to me is a saftey concern*dt
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 Audi Q5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, A WARNING MESSAGE REGARDING THE POWER STEERING WAS DISPLAYED THAT ALSO INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. DURING THE FAILURE, THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS VERY COLD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER AUDI OF BOISE LOCATED AT 8400 W. FRANKLIN RD #1, BOISE, ID 83709 WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
Vehicle keeps stating safety system malfunction. The passenger airbag continues to turn on and off while driving. Even when manually shut off through glove box, the alert continues to occur while driving.
Car stationary on highway after traffic came to a stop due to a traffic incident ahead. Rear ended by vehicle going in excess of 40mph. Car pushed into car in front (car 3), spun around and hit the same car (car 3) in the front. Airbags did not deploy. Both driver and passenger were admitted to the hospital with injuries.
2019 Q5 - LESS THAN 8,000 MILES. POWER STEERING FAILED. THANKFULLY WAS NOT ON THE MAIN ROAD, BUT THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING FAULT AND POSSESS SERIOUS RISKS. I WAS REVERSING THE VEHICLE IN MY PARKING AND THE STEERING FAILED. THEREAFTER, GOT IT TOWED TO BELL AUDI AT EDISON.
Oil consumption - check engine add oil lights come on every 200 to 300 miles add a quart of oil then again after 200+ miles add another quart. Audi will not acknowledge there is a problem and recall. I have 108k miles 90% highway. 5 year 80k warranty it started after 80k miles. I have spent $3k the past six months without replacing the engine.
Vehicle transmission downshifts abruptly when slowing to a stop. Transmission slams into each gear as you slow causing an unexpected increase in engine braking. This occurs regardless of drive select mode (comfort, auto, or sport). There are numerous complaints about this behavior across audi owner forums for vehicles with the same engine and transmission combination (3. 0l supercharged v6 mated to zf 8hp transmission). Additionally, there? S a frequent long delay for the reverse camera image to display on the screen when selecting reverse. It can take up to 7-10 seconds. If there is a software update available, audi dealer advises it will cost money to have installed on the vehicle. As this is a safety concern i would imagine the manufacturer would handle as a tsb, regardless of year or mileage.
There is a leak from the panorama sunroof into rear side cabinet of the vehicle. There is already a recall #17v001000 but my vehicle is not on the list even though the issue is identical to the recall description. The leak can potential causes damage to the side rear airbag so it is a safety concern for me. However, the cause is really a defective drain hose connecting to the sunroof drain that is not securely attached or maybe defective.
Bought it 7 weeks ago, 44,000 miles. Severe oil consumption problem i'm finding out everyone knows about already with audi turbos and was previously a class action. I'm putting oil in every other day and feel the pistons missing when i drive in the morning.
Air bags did not deploy in audi at full stop when struck from the rear by vehicle traveling at speed sufficient for their air bags to deploy. Driver and passenger were both wearing seat belts, but accident resulted in both being hospitalized with injuries. Driver with eye and abdominal injuries from striking the steering wheel, and passenger suffered concussion from striking the windshield with sufficient force to shatter it, plus sustaining numerous muscle and joint sprains from impact with dashboard.
THE ADD OIL LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE STARTED TO COME ON AS I WAS DRIVING. INITIALLY IT WAS REQUIRING OIL ADDED IN BETWEEN SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. I MENTIONED IT AT TIME OF SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD ALL OF THE SERVICE ON THIS VEHICLE DONE. WHEN IT STARTED READING LOW OIL AT JUST UNDER EVERY 1000 MILES I CONTACTED DEALER AGAIN WHO HAD ME BRING IT IN AND THEY PERFORMED A SCOPE OF THE SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT USING TOO MUCH OIL AND ACCORDING TO AUDI IT WAS WITHIN NORMAL USAGE OF OIL. I WAS VERY SKEPTICAL AND BROUGHT IT TO A DIFFERENT AUDI DEALERSHIP FOR THE NEXT SCHEDULED SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS TOO MUCH OIL IN THE EXHAUST AND IT WAS INDEED USING TOO MUCH. AT HIS POINT I AM NEEDING TO ADD A QUART OF OIL AT JUST UNDER EVERY 500 MILES. I DID GET A THIRD OPINION FROM A FOREIGN MOTOR SPECIALIST WHO WORKS ON AUDI'S BUT IS NOT AFFILIATED. HE TOLD ME THE CAR IS USING WAY TOO MUCH OIL AND THAT THE Audi Q5 VEHICLES ARE KNOWN FOR THIS. I HAVE HAD ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICE COMPLETED AT AN AUDI DEALER, MOST WAS DONE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I HAVE ONLY USED PREMIUM GASOLINE, WHICH IS WHAT AUDI RECOMMENDS. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THE CONFLICTING REPORTS AND BELIEVE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT AUDI CONTINUES TO IGNORE. THIS IS AN ONGOING INCIDENT WHICH FIRST HAPPENED AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES. THE DATE BELOW REFLECTS THE LAST TIME THE ADD OIL LIGHT CAME ON.
Twice in 2019 my car slammed to a stop while backing up at 2-3 mph. I had not hit anything and no damage to car. There was nothing to hit, just a vacant area. Yesterday while driving forward at 35-40 mph on a main street with the closest oncoming car 1 block away my car slammed to a dead, wall slamming stop. If a car had been behind me there would have been an accident. I emphasize: this was a dead, no slow-down stop. I refused to drive it 50 miles to the dealer. The dealer has picked it up and told me the sensors were set too sensitive. If so, why did this not occur every time i drove? Frankly, i am afraid i will be forced to drive this car for the next 3 months until my lease expires. The dealer will not give me a loaner. I think this is a very unsafe car. I have no confidence in the way this is being handled. For your interest, i was given a ride today in the 2019 sedan model. Unbelievably it slammed to a stop while backing out of my driveway.
2017 AND NEWER AUDI VEHICLES WITH REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT AND POSSIBLY THOSE WITH JUST AUDI PRE-SENSE ARE EXTREMELY FREQUENTLY GENERATING FALSE POSITIVES WHEN REVERSING. THE SYSTEM IS INCORRECTLY SENSING AN OBJECT AND ACTIVATING THE PARKING BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION. THIS RESULTS IN A SUDDEN VEHICLE JERK, BRAKES SCRAPING, AND IMMEDIATE CONFUSION FOR THE DRIVER. I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THIS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHEN REVERSING AND HAVE ATTACHED DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS SHOWING THIS IS A WIDESPREAD FAULT IN THE DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM. IT IS FALSELY ACTIVATING BECAUSE IT IS NOT ACCURATELY TUNED TO DETECT AN INCOMING OBJECT. MY 2015 Audi Q5 HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT, IS GARAGE KEPT AND TAKEN WELL CARE OF. IT JUST NOW HAD BOTH REAR BEARINGS GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. IT MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE WHILE ON SMOOTH HIGHWAY, AND I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO DEEMED IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FRONT BEARINGS BUT AUDI REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. UNSAFE AND COULD KILL PEOPLE.
CAR SUDDENLY TIED WHILE DRIVING IN CITY; ENGINE/ALL SYSTEMS SHUT OFF. IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO ARRIVE, AND THE 1ST 2 TOWING COMPANIES COULD NOT DISENGAGE THE BRAKING SYSTEM TO LOAD ONTO TRUCK! ONCE VEHICLE TOWED TO AUDI DEALER, THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS "GATEWAY CONTROL MODULE J533, WATER IN CONTROL MODULE, CORROSION IN CONNECTOR, CAUSING FUSE FOR GATEWAY CONTROL UNIT TO BLOW" WE WERE TOLD BY DEALER THAT "LIQUID MUST HAVE SPILLED INTO AREA BEHIND REAR SEATS". WE HAVE NO YOUNG CHILDREN, AND NOBODY WAS RECENTLY SITTING IN REAR SEAT. VEHICLE IS PARKED IN GARAGE AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION; 2 YEARS OLD / 24,000 MILES. THIS WAS A $3,200 REPAIR NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN DEFECT. AFTER SEVERAL COMMUNICATIONS I HAD WITH AUDI USA AND LOCAL DEALER, THOSE (2) PARTIES TOLD ME THIS REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED AS A "GOODWILL ADJUSTMENT" NOT A "WARRANTY ITEM". I FOUND SIMILAR REPORTS ONLINE: HERE IS A DISCUSSION I STARTED ON AN ONLINE FORUM: HTTPS://WWW.AUDIWORLD.COM/FORUMS/Q5-SQ5-MKII-DISCUSSION-218/CONTROL-MODULE-RUINED-MOISTURE-CORROSION-3001605/PAGE3/ ANOTHER ONE I FOUND: HTTPS://WWW.AUDIWORLD.COM/FORUMS/Q5-SQ5-MKII-DISCUSSION-218/COMPLETE-ENGINE-CONTROL-MODULE-FAILURE-2952745/ ATTACHED IS INVOICE. SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO UPLOAD PHOTOS THEY SENT ME DUE TO FILE SIZES. REPAIR TOOK ALMOST A MONTH TO COMPLETE. WE ENDED UP RENTING A CAR FOR A WEEK-LONG ROAD TRIP AS THE DEALER LOANER IS ONLY FOR LOCAL USE.
