Consumers have filed a total of 6 complaints related to BMW FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS.
The car on my right changed lanes and and hit the front of my car. Photo's of damage attached. The damage was to the right side of the bumper and panel on the front side. Police report attached. The carfax report printed 5/5/2021 shows damaged areas as front, right and rear. The damage was limited to the side front only and the car was drivable to the repair shop. The accident occurred 12/21/2018.
While driving, collision detection activates for no reason. Very random, sometimes just warning lights and sounds, and sometimes slamming on brakes at speed over 40 mph. No cars coming in other direction or any obstacles whatsoever. Weather clear. I almost got rear-ended once. Did not activate when fox ran in front of car. I can go weeks without this happening and then it comes out of the blue. It's in the shop for the third time for this complaint and service says they have no "error codes" and can't recreate the problem. Bmwusa told service to try to recreate the problem by driving it overnight. There's a 50/50 chance it will happen when they drive it, and there still won't be error codes! Bmw won't authorize any repair until they go through these steps. This has been on and off for at least 6 months. Date below was most recent occurrence. Obviously, obtaining any documentation of proof is impossible unless i have a camera crew on me all the time. It's terrifying and dangerous!
Repeated warning of 'rreduced driver assistance support
On march 22, 2021, i was parking my 2016 bmw gran turismo 328x at a parking garage. Ii had completed the initial turn-in, when the car felt like the accelerator had been pushed to the floor. The car went from approximately 5 miles an hour to about 20 mph in the length of a parking spot. The car hit the concrete barrier head on, with the side curtain, steering wheel and leg air bags deploying. The car was fully maintained and serviced by the bmw dealer with brand new tires. It had about 78k miles on it. The forward collision warning did not go off nor did the automatic braking occur. I asked the repair facility to check out why the car suddenly accelerated, but was told that accidents happen and that the car was totaled anyway. I did not press the accelerator? Accidentally?. I have had hundreds of hours of drivers training and evasive manuvering because of my job and do not make mistakes like that. I am grateful that no one other than i was hurt and that there was the concrete barrier to stop the vehicle. There was a police report made. The car has been totaled as there was more than 15k damage. Usaa has the car.
The head unit or the car stopped working. As a result, rear view camera, all warning systems or the car including warnings for low tire pressure, warnings for distance from objects in front, side and rear all stopped working. This is a safety issue with all safety features of the car were disabled. This is the second time head unit has stopped working on the same car and the second time when the head unit needed a replacement. Seems like a systemic issue and should be investigated with bmws.
