Driver side front door handle/actuator freezes in cold weather. Door will not open from inside or outside. This is a safety issue as it could trap a person inside. This seems to be a problem with the cables that connect the handles to the mechanism itself, not the actual door latch as it can be moved with fingers when the mechanism is frozen.
"driver restraint system malfunction" light came on today. Bmw i3's have had recalls in their past models due to design flaws in their airbag systems and assembly. While my car's year hasn't had a recall, searching the web shows that this issue is extremely common on bmw cars. And when the car is out of warranty (after 3 years), the cost for fixing this issue is exhorbitant. Bmw should be pushed to fix this issue at no cost versus charging customers thousands for their faulty safety system design.
I was driving this evening and the panoramic sunroof suddenly and unexpectedly shattered. There was no warning or event that led to this. No pothole or external factor. The road was smooth and no other cars were around my vehicle. I heard an extremely loud "pop" and thought something had hit my vehicle. When i stopped to identify the problem, i exited my vehicle ad saw the panoramic sunroof glass was cracked and shattered, but had lifted up in a domed shape, or a bubble. The outside temperature was about 17 degrees. Fortunately i had the headliner in the closed position so no broken glass would have fallen into the cabin.
Reporting very dangerous sudden unintended acceleration of 2015 bmw 328i: when about to back out of a parking space in a parking garage, i pressed the brakes and turned on the ignition switch. After looking around to ensure no cars or people were near the car, i put the gear shift in reverse, turned my whole head entirely over my right shoulder to look through the back windshield and, seeing nothing behind me, began to slowly lift my foot from the brake to reverse out of the parking space. I turned the steering wheel towards the left and the back of the car went to the left. The bumper gently tapped a white column that had been out of sight all the way further over my right shoulder. I gently pressed on the brake, and when i switched the gear shift into drive, the car suddenly and explosively accelerated forward extremely fast and sped out of control. I pressed the brakes to stop the car, which did nothing, and the car slammed into cement wall so hard that it sounded like an explosion and the air bags deployed. I hit my mouth/face/head on the air bag and got whiplash from the sudden stop. When i got out of the car, a couple who’d heard the explosion drove by and asked if i was ok. After a few moments i reached into the car to turn off ignition switch. This event resulted in very serious damage to the car, which was totaled, and i received medical injuries. This incident was reported to my automobile insurance company and to north america bmw, who has escalated the report to higher levels due to the seriousness of the incident, and will be doing investigations this week. The accelerator pedal or gear box dangerously and seriously malfunctioned, and the car is available for inspection upon request. My safety was seriously at risk as i have headaches and whiplash symptoms. If there were no wall there, or if there had been people or cars anywhere in front of the car, they would have been killed and smashed because the car suddenly accelerated so quickly.
On december 9, 2022, i tried to start my car in my garage. The car would not start.. The dash read stop auto train failure contact roadside assistance. After calling my car salesman who told me i had to contact roadside assistance myself, i did so. Roadside assistance informed me they were unable to diagnose/correct the problem, and called a tow truck. The car was towed to dealership that day and has been on the lot ever since. After many consultations with the bmw people in germany, the analysis was that the cell monitoring circuit module needed to be replaced and the replacement part is scheduled to arrive mid-march, 2023.
Customer rear passenger setbelt doesnt latch
A malfunction of the front seat occupancy mat will prevent the passenger air bag from deploying in the event of an accident and displays a malfunction warning. This malfunction has been the subject of several bmw nhtsa recalls but so far none have been issued for this vehicle.
I purchased the vehicle in feb 2022. I received a call from my dealer about the recall last week, they said they would perform the repair on 01/26/23. I picked the vehicle up the next day without them having performed the repair because the vin still shows "remedy not available". The dealer did not even assess the safety issue when the car was brought in. I do not know if the car is safe to drive. Neither the dealer nor bmw have set expectations for when the recall is to be performed. What do i do next?
The contact owns a 2015 BMW X5. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V907000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer was notified of the recall notice and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and the contact was informed that the parts were not available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distributions disconnect.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Repair shop repaired the pulley because i couldn't steer the vehicle correctly. It would jerk me on the road. Vehicle is available for inspection but is already repaired by local shop. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I could drive but couldn't steer intermittently. Scary!! I couldn't make a full turns and there was a rough spot in the steering sometimes. Eventually it locked up an couldn't leave parking spot. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. But i already got it repaired. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not that i know of. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. I only smelled burning rubber or electrical components. Smoke from engine bay and screeching sounds. Worst part is it was intermittent which gives the driver a false sense of security to drive but almost crashed because down the road couldn't steer.
