Good morning, i was driving down the road at around 60 mph in my car. Abruptly my car had simultaneous warning lights about 12 of them. More importantly, i lost my power steering and brake by wire putting all of our lives at risk. The speedometer , air bags, restraint systems all failed and went out. The car wouldn't turn off on the side of the road and after about 5 minutes i was able to get it off and called bmw assist for a tow. Since it was night and raining i and waiting for a tow truck was dangerous i attempted to restart my car and get successfully got it to the nearest exit. All the warning lights were off. About 15 minutes later on the limp home the same thing happened with all the fault codes so my family decided to uber home. I took the car to bmw rockville and they did diagnostics and we're not able to replicate the problem. They returned my car back to me the same day with no repairs. I'm concerned. There was no indication or warning lights before the electrical failure. It was completely out of the blue.
The car hydroplaned while driving on the interstate, spun out of control and slammed into a tree in the rear end. My son was going approximately 65 mph and upon impact no airbags deployed and the steering wheel was in his hands after impact. His seat broke and collapsed into a laying position. His head sustained a huge blow to the interior side of the car in addition to another head injury in the front, a fractured wrist and multiple bruises along with a sore neck & back. The insurance adjuster saw the car and could not believe the steering wheel came completely detached in addition to no airbags deployed. My son is 6’2” and weighs 235. I would have expected from his body weight alone the side airbag deploying. The car is totaled beyond repair. The car had no warnings or indicators regarding faulty airbags or steering issues.

I purchased a 2014 BMW X5 on 8/31 Took possession of it 9/7 because the dealership needed to replace tires. On 9/15 while driving for about 3 minutes, the powertrain warning came on my screen and the truck began to shake. I turned around and parked in my driveway and turned the vehicle off. At which time smoke was visible from the engine area. As the smoke began to worsen, flames shot out and I called the fire department for help. I was only in possession of the vehicle for 8 days and the dealership told me that there’s nothing that they can do for me. I was within the 15 day of possession or 500 mile time window
I am getting the same message as others before me: "secure vehicle with parking brake when stopped. Consult service center. " this occurs when i begin to engage the car and prior to exiting the car. It's been sending that message for a couple of months now. At the beginning of drive time, the rear camera does not engage until i acknowledge the parking brake message and press the dial down on the center console. Of course, i wonder, "is the car actually in park and the computer just doesn't recognize it? " or "am i actually at risk because the car is not in park and at risk of rolling until i engage the parking brake? " could we at least have that answered? Service rep at dealership engaged my key fob but couldn't tell me anything about the issue... Until i allowed diagnostics at a cost of almost $250. I had already gone in to another non dealer to inquire, and he knew exactly what i was referring to... A common problem with x1s he said. Hmmmm... And a cost of about $2500 to replace the shifter... Labor was the greater expense. Back at the dealership, i asked, "what if it's the shifter? What would that cost? " result: almost $3000 to fix. It's time for a recall. What is the bmw threshold before this is done? .... Or what is the nhtsa threshold??
