Consumers have filed a total of 9 complaints for S1000 RR models.
Both of my front calipers leak brake fluid, enough to leave puddles on the ground. This was noticed after the bike had been parked for about two weeks. As of this note the bike is still at the dealership with an unknown eta on parts. I have spoken with bmw north america and their representative indicated that bmw is unaware of this issue, however, i can find several people online who are experiencing the same problem. Having the front brakes fail on this motorcycle would be catastrophic.
While riding my 2020 s1000rr on i495, the front fender bolts had become dislodged, allowing the fender to flop around, fortunately one screw of the 4 was still barely fastened, i didn? T lose the entire fender, it ended up lodged in my wheel, and thankfully i was able to safely get off the highway, and investigate the situations, i removed screws from insignificant portions of my bike to affix the fender on the only two remaining mounts as one of the 4 was damaged from the incident..
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 bmw s1000 rr. While driving at any speed, the engine made an abnormal knocking sound. The noise was a distraction and the contact felt as if he would be thrown from the vehicle. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to brower motor sports (2300 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, fl 33409, (561) 296-9696) where it was diagnosed that a new cam chain was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the repair failed later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 3,902. The vin was unknown.
The motorcycle will not accelerate for up to 2 seconds while opening the throttle in 2nd and 3rd gears, with a lag of up to 1 second in other gears. This creates situations where you are unable to control your throttle or acceleration.
I believe it is safe to say that when the key to a vehicle is turned to the off position, the engine should be turned off with it. However, as shown to the best of my ability within the picture i have provided, my engine is still running and can be revved while the key is not present. Make no mistake, this is a fully street legal bike that has not been modified for track/professional use. The danger of this lies within the fact that not all riders put their motorcycle into neutral before releasing the clutch lever and turning off the bike nor are they required; which means they could unknowingly propel the bike from underneath them hurting not only themselves, but bystanders as well as property damage. Bmw motorcycles has an excellent warranty that would normally cover this issue, only if the owner experienced it within the designated time frame. What about the other thousands of motorcycles without warranty coverage that could easily experience this issue? It is not popular, but a known issue within the s1000rr community.
Vehicle will not shift into neutral while vehicle is running. Worked fine when new. This problem started 3-4 months after new. Last time at the dealer (sf bmw motorcycles) was 3/25/17 - the dealer replicated the issue, but does not have a fix. The dealer requested assistance from bmw n. A. Bmw n. A. States "they are aware of the issue and have replicated it on other bikes", "not a defect, but a feature of the bike". Bmw n. A. Will not pay to have the bike serviced or fixed. Serious safety issue! Not only this motorcycle, but others with the same transmission have this issue as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 (na) bmw s1000 rr. While driving 40 mph, the engine began to stall and smoke appeared under one of the seats. The fire department extinguished the fire and a fire and a police report were filed. No injuries were sustained. It was discovered that the failure was caused by the battery, which exploded without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.
Motorcycle pulls to the right. Force must be applied to maintain a straight line.
Since new this s1000rr motorcycle has been constantly pulling or veering to the right and bmw refuses to address or even recognize the defect, much less rectify it.
