Front driveshaft needs to be replaced due to excess wear, perhaps transfer case as well. Very similar to safety recall campaign 17v-138:from april/2017 (same issue, my model is one year older than recall notice), but bmw na will not cover the repair cost for this defect.
We left our residence to take our kids to school when the operating portion of the sunroof exploded. We were traveling at around 65 mph through a rural road with the sunroof closed. Clear skies, no rain. At first we thought something had fallen through but there was nothing inside except shards of glass. When we were able to pull over, we inspected the vehicle for signs of external damage but then noticed the leftover glass was protruding outward.

I was driving on an interstate and there was a loud explosion. Immediately realized that the sunroof glass had exploded. Fortunately sunroof shield was closed so that glass did not enter inside of the car which could have harmed my family.
While driving on city street the engine stopped, would not restart, then caught fire
I was driving on 10 freeway west 750 am on 2/23 there was traffics everybody was behaving i was keeping distance of at least 2-3 car distance all of sudden my car accelerated making a loud noise from the hood my foot was on the brakes but i could not stop the car i hit from car my foot was althe way on the brakes i let it go after the impact bmw doesn? T not want to take responsibility i have a police report from me and from driver that we had a good distance between two cars it was at the baldwin park city on 10 freeway
2015 X5 DIESEL HAD ITS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE @ ~85,650 MILES WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY AT SURFACE STREET SPEEDS. DID NOT NOTICE ANY DRIVEABILITY/PERFORMANCE ISSUES, BUT TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WITHIN A WEEK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO ON AND OFF FOR THE WEEK LEADING UP TO DROPPING OFF. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS FAILURE OF 2 INJECTORS. CYLINDERS 1 AND 2. PAID TO HAVE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND APPEARS TO BE DRIVING NORMALLY AND NO RETURN OF CEL AS OF YET (ABOUT 50 MILES). BMW HAS AN EXTENDED 120,000 MILE WARRANTY (SIB 01 09 19) ON INJECTORS FOR THE MODEL YEAR 2016 AND 2017 X5 DIESEL WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND SAME INJECTORS AS WELL AS VARIOUS MY 2015, 2016, AND 2017 DIESEL VEHICLES. COVERAGE SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO MODEL YEAR 2015 X5 AS WELL AS BELIEVE IT LIKELY THE 4 REMAINING ORIGINAL INJECTORS WILL FAIL AS WELL. HOPEFULLY BMW WILL ADD EXTENDED WARRANTY OF THE INJECTORS TO THE 2015 MY X5 DIESELS WHICH WOULD ALLOW FOR REIMBURSEMENT.
Vehicle has had the main driver gauges/dash cluster randomly turn off with no warning while driving, multiple times a day now for the last several months, with instances happening at all sorts of speeds and on local roads and highways. There appears to be no way to recover the electronic dash cluster until the vehicle is left to fully shut off for a few minutes and then restarted. Bmw service as well as bmwna have attempted to assist in 8+ service visits and have not been able to rectify what? S a clear safety hazard, as it has led to multiple near accidents now. This started in january 2020, when the vehicle was relatively new (<2000 miles) and persists to this day (12k miles).
Our vehicle is in for the 4th visit for a persistent oil leak. The first 2 visits resulted in a vehicle inspection and cleaning of engine area with no leak found, stating is was most likely left over oil from messy oil change. The 3rd visit resulted in replacing the rear main seal and problem was resolved per dealer. Vehicle continued to leak after we brought it home. 4th visit resulted in replacing oil pan gasket but leaks are now popping up in other areas. Bmw engineer has been requested by dealer. In th process the vehicle was damaged for the second time by the dealer requiring body work/paint.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACTIVE BLIND SPOT DETECTION MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
I was driving down the highway going about 70 mph on a clear day and there was a loud explosion sound from the roof. I then heard air and glass. At that time i figured out the sunroof broke. When i was able to stop i found a huge hole in the sunroof.
Heads up display stopped functioning. Odb code led to bmw technical bulletin si b62 05 16. This was a known software corruption that requires software update. Dealer refuses to update software without charging three hours labor ($150/hr). Bmw will not respond to my complaint.
MY 2016 BMW X5 E40 STALLED AND LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, THE FIRST TIME AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND THE SUBSEQUENT TIMES AT AROUND 25 MPH, FORCING ME TO DRIVE THE CAR ONTO THE SHOULDER AND TRY TO RESTART IT. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY KIND AND NO WARNING LIGHT GIVEN PRIOR TO THE STALLS, IT SIMPLY JUST LOST ALL PROPULSION POWER. WE WERE TRAVELING UPHILL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND WERE FORTUNATE TO NOT BE IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER THE STALL A WARNING INDICATOR MESSAGE INDICATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC START/STOP MALFUNCTIONED. THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY RESTART AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY WARNING INDICATOR AT ALL, AND THE PROBLEM WILL RANDOMLY REPEAT ITSELF WITHOUT WARNING. PROPULSION DOESN'T SLOWLY STOP, IT CUTS OUT COMPLETELY WITH NO WARNING. THE BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE INTERNAL TO THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 89,000 MILES ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MELBOURNE BMW (1432 S HARBOR CITY BLVD, MELBOURNE, FL 32901; (321) 727-3788) AND THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,600.
The car stopped without any warning 3 time in the middle of the road while driving my wife and kids inside the car. I consider very lucky this happened on county road two time and ones in the shopping center parking lot, instead of middle of the highway. I have taken the car to the dealership for the second time they are still trying to figure out what's wrong with gauges. Last time it happened was 11/13 while my wife was driving with the daughter to doctor's appointment, gas reading shows above 1/4 tank and 146 miles remaining (i have pictures of the cluster). But the car abruptly stop twithought any warning which will be a deadly situation if happened in the highway. The reason for it to stop was no gas in the tank though it gives a reading of over 1/4 tank 146 miles remaining. My last visit to the dealer was about a month back and i was told they replaced the gas tank and the sensor inside the tank which was covered under vehicle warranty. I feel very unsafe driving this car, i have reported the issues bmw na customer service and the car is with bmw of rockville.
Passenger airbag alert on dashboard constantly when you turn on the car and makes you unable to use any voice command or use display navigation without pressing 3 times ok button... It was like this first time when we got it and every time we took it to service... Most of the time we were told that was triggered by leaving the purse or bag on the seat? Finally after resetting every time , last year the service acknowledge a recall... They supposedly fixed it but this year it happened twice gain... Car was over a month all together in shop for the same issue,,
Aug 25th 2020 morning, westport ct, my wife started vehicle and trying to back out from garage. Suddenly realized that she cannot turn the wheel as before and became extremely stiffen. She almost hit the garage wall. We took the car to dealership and this isan eps failure. We investigated online and saw several cases like us and some happened on the highway. We are lucky found this when we are still in our garage. Eps of bmw had recall(16v-704) which bmw only recalled 50 cars during 2-3 year of manufacturing period. I believe this recall should be expanded and certainly my car should be included which is within this time frame. It is a major safety concern.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER DUE TO LOW TIRE PRESSURE ON THE PASSENGER?S SIDE REAR TIRE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE PASSENGER?S SIDE REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OBSERVED THE TIRE AND STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 27,000. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.
