Chevrolet Complaints

2019 Chevrolet COLORADO
  • Date of Incident: Apr-15, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING

Steering binding hard in turns. Turns over 45 deg of steering wheel rotation cause periodic binding in the turn, regardless of vehicle speed. Can be reproduced when the truck isn’t moving. Very nearly caused a serious accident as could not control direction out of a turn at 30 mph, and had to come to a rapid stop to avoid hitting another car. Wiggling the steering wheel in both directions with moderate force/torque releases the binding steering. Vehicle only has 44,000 mi with no off-road use. Vehicle is going in for service on 4/18/24. Extremely dangerous failure mode, whatever it turns out to be.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado
  • Date of Incident: Aug-16, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES

Operator reported that under braking, they lost all power assist to the brake pedal and brake pedal was extremely hard to push. This resulted in extended stopping distance and difficulty slowing the vehicle down. It was found that the vacuum pump had failed. We are a large utility fleet, and this issue has occurred a number of times to our Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon vehicles and we deem this a safety issue. These incidents have been reported to the OEM and we recently received the attached reply, "We submitted a “Speak up for Safety Campaign” to our internal quality team for review. These reviews are conducted to determine if there is a manufacturing or design defect that could impact quality. After review, the case was closed with no action to be taken." The operators receive no warning prior to the failure.

2024 Chevrolet TRAX
  • Date of Incident: Apr-13, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

I was driving the car on a highway and there was a small muffled boom sound under the hood. The “low oil pressure light” came on simultaneous to the sound and the car suddenly lost power. I managed to put on brakes and pull to the shoulder of a very busy highway with semi trucks passing closely by. I was luckily able to get out of traffic because i happened to be in the right lane. The vehicle was towed to a gm dealer where it remains. The service mgr stated it had a sudden catastrophic engine failure and there was a huge hole in the side of the engine block. They have no other updates for me and will not discuss it at this time. I’m not aware of anyone else examining the vehicle.
