2022 Ford MAVERICK
  • Date of Incident: Apr-12, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

I was driving in town going about 20 mph when i approached and intersection and stepped on the brakes. The brakes locked up, multiple warning lights, messages, audible alarms went off. I though the truck died and i put it in park and turned off the key. Then i turned the key back on, all the lights and warnings came back on, but it also said ready to drive. I was not able to accelerate using the gas pedal, truck was moving slowly on its own, it gained some speed but only ran on the electric motor. No gas engine. I got 3 blocks to my destination very slowly and shut the truck off. I had to go inside to do some work and when i came back about an hour later i turned the truck on and all the alerts were gone except the check engine light. It did run normal then. After calling the dealership they said to bring it in so they could look at it. I left it there and they called later saying they had pulled multiple error codes, did not tell me what they were, they cleared all the codes and drove it and said it did not act up for them and said i could come pick it up. I do not want to drive it because i feel like this could happen again at any time and if i were driving at a higher speed or on a interstate and this happened who knows who could have been hurt. This maverick is my daily driver for work ect. But i will not drive it unless i absolutely have to right now. I got no answers from the dealership. Before this, no warning lights had been on.

2021 Ford MUSTANG MACH E
  • Date of Incident: Sep-30, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES, and STEERING

This is a follow up to odi 11510437 that was filed via the phone in 2/2023 related to now nhtsa recall 23v687. The vehicle in question experienced exactly the issue described in the recall notice. Our incident was part of the nhtsa investigation. The vehicle had its high voltage battery junction box replaced in +/- march 2023, but the new box was the same design as the old box that is poorly engineered. Notices sent out in fall of 2023 indicating that there was a recall were not sent to us for this vehicle. Similarly, the notice sent in april 2024 informing mach e owners to schedule appointments at their dealer was not sent to us for this vehicle. Upon contacting ford, they indicated that this vehicle is not part of this recall. After insisting on speaking to a supervisor, he claimed that it was now a part of the recall but refused to provide me any written acknowledgment of this. When pressed further he then said that our vehicle was not part of the recall because the part was already replaced. When i explained that the part replace was the same defective part he told me to call the dealership or nhtsa because he would do nothing further. He went on to say that there was nothing further he would or could do, nor would it transfer me to anybody at ford that could address our unique circumstances. Upon calling nhtsa they advised, (amongst other things), that we file a complaint via this portal.

2016 Ford Focus
  • Date of Incident: Mar-28, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while her mother was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost all motive power. The driver was not able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, and the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the oil pump drive belt tensioner, resulting in damage to the engine and requiring a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V905000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 79,000.

2021 Ford Ranger
  • Date of Incident: Feb-18, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

Harsh shifting into d, loss of power when accelerating while cold. Sometimes would start across an intersection then buck, loose power and slow down then slam back into gear and chirp the rear tires. Technical service bulletin 23-2350 was performed on 11/15/2023 which updated the trans tables and cleared some codes. This helped the issue for about a week but then truck was in again on 1/22/2024 for tsb 23-2350 a second time which replaced the cdf drum. A month later, 800 miles, 2/18/2024 truck shifted hard while in cruise control on the turnpike in traffic and lost power. Dtc p0766 check engine light came on and truck would no longer move. Transmission fluid sprayed under truck. Had to be towed to dealership. Clutch valve d was replaced. Two months have gone by and the hard shifting into d and occasional complete loss of power still occurring. Waiting for the next check engine light to appear to take it in again. I now drive very conservatively because i don't know if it will stop moving half way across an intersection again.

2019 Ford F-150
  • Date of Incident: Apr-17, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

The cam phasers are going bad. This is a known issue with ford 3. 5l gtdi engines. They have published customer satisfaction program 21n03 in relation to this matter. My 2019 f150 is experiencing failed cam phasers, which has been confirmed by the ford dealership. I reached out to ford to discuss the matter, but they stated my vehicle is not covered under this program. A claim report was started by ford on my issue cxh01965202. The same failure described in the ford document is happening in my vehicle, so i do not understand why my vehicle is being excluded. The failure is more widespread than what ford is claiming, and they need to expand the program to include all impacted automobiles.

2020 Ford ESCAPE
  • Date of Incident: Apr-14, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER

My escape only has 60k miles on it. I got off work and needed to open my passenger door to get my work bag. Being a single mom, my kids ride in the back and the passenger seat is rarely used. I opened the door and it fell apart. The arm on the door just broke. Now i'm stuck with a hefty bill on a newer car. I am not sure how it broke, it just snapped halfway into opening. Ford told me this should be a recall ad they are seeing tons of it. Now i'm worried will my doors open going down the road with my kids?

2022 Ford BRONCO SPORT
  • Date of Incident: Apr-04, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and ENGINE

Vehicle started on its own, no remote start scheduled or activity. Online forums suggested battery failure and two days later battery was dead. Battery replaced. Filed complaint with ford seeking answers regarding safety concerns and took to ford dealership for inspection and service. Vehicle was also in same dealership twice for maintenance service and brakes within two weeks of the mystery start incident. Ford found 15 u codes relating to battery or electrical failures, reset battery monitoring systems and returned vehicle. I don’t have any explanation from ford as to why or how the vehicle started, ford has not denied it, but they have not provided any reason for me to believe the vehicle is safe to keep driving and parking in an enclosed space. I asked ford if they are aware of the risk and they only response i received, is they asked me to keep monitoring the vehicle and if i experience any problems to bring it back to the dealership.
