First the car started jerking while drive over 50mph, next day driving down the street and the car shut off, stating loss of power. I replaced the battery, it was giving battery low codes, only to get a certified mechanic say the timing chain was out. Just purchased the car in march 2022.

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Acadia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V334000(Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Vaccumm pump failed and broke metal shavings off into engine resulting in “engine failure”. I was driving on the highway with my 6 year old child in back seat, car completely shut down and shot a “reduced engine power” message while on a busy on ramp heading onto highway. This created an extremely dangerous situation for myself and my child as many cars almost smashed into the vehicle. I’ve seen many other complaints of this happening, the same exact parts and issue happened to the Chevy Equinox which resulted in a recall but they have yet to recall the Terrain, which is having the exact same issue. I am a single mother, with 20k still on my loan. This mistake made by gmc has now costed me over 5,000$ out of pocket for something that is not my fault and completely out of my control. Even after all of the money poured into this repair, I still feel unsafe in my own vehicle as there is no guarantee this issue will not happen again. I’ve kept up on all oil changes and maintenance of my vehicle. The issue was confirmed by a GMC mechanic which cost 500$ out of pocket for diagnosis as well. I also had to spend 1000$ on a rental out of pocket because of this. I have seen many others complaints of the same issue happening to their GMC Terrain and am appalled no recall has been discussed after the reaccuring issue. I should not be having to pay out of pocket for an issue GMC has yet to fix or issue a recall on. I had to miss days of work, and it really was a huge inconvenience. I do not feel safe in my own vehicle even after the repair, cause I have no guarantee this won’t just happen all over again.
I was driving with my cruise control set at 77 mph in the fast lane of a four-lane highway. There was no one in front of me for more than 3/4 of a mile. A car in the lane to my right apparently triggered the automatic breaking system to the point it slammed on my brakes, pushed me into the steering wheel, and slowed me all the way to 38 mph in the fast lane of the freeway. The result of this unrequested breaking caused four cars behind me to almost rear end me and pile up. The second event was going down the freeway with the cruise control set at 65 and nobody around me and the car again slammed the brakes on for no apparent reason. At this point i’m afraid to drive the car. I have zero confidence in this vehicle letting me operate the vehicle. I need help.
The transmission became inoperable and a message appeared on the display 'engine power is reduced' in area of the highway where the speed limit is 55 and then the transmission failed completely and left the engine revving at high rpm and not moving the vehicle forward and we rolled to the side of the road to a stop. This was a very dangerous situation as traffic was flying past us and had to move out of the way of our coasting vehicle. It was towed to a gmc dealership about 8 miles away as it is still under warranty. I've read many stories in gm forums about problems with this gm 10 speed transmission in this pickup truck. This needs to be looked into as a potential recall as this problem left us stranded on the side of the road as we had to wait for a ride because we had a dog with wife and i. Currently there is not a transmission recall listed for this vehicle. We were lucky to be in an area where we had cell phone service and relatively close to home, within 10 miles. We have a trip planned for next weekend to go to a couple national parks in utah and now we don' t have a vehicle to take on this trip to haul out bikes.
My son's 2015 gmc sierra side impact air bags went off while he was driving. He had no impact. He thought he hit a small pot hole but after driving back on the road, it was recently paved so it was not a pot hole. He guessed it was the edge of the road from the recent paving that he hit. He heard a loud noise like a gun shot. His cabin filled up with smoke and the side impact air bags when off. When he took the truck to the gm dealership, it gave a code for front air bag deployment due to impact. But the side air bags went off and there was no impact. The only damage to the truck is the deployed side airbags and the locked seatbelts. He has a warranty but they kicked it to gm. Warranty stated that if they fixed it, they were worried that it would happen again. We filed a claim with gm. After gm sent three different inspectors out and over 5 weeks later, they denied the claim. They have also not sent the inspection reports as requested. My son did not have this truck for the first three months he owned it because gm could not find the faulty code causing transmission issues. I am worried the air bags deployment will happen again while he is driving at a high speed and cause a serious wreck.
Transmission slips, shifts hard, and rpm gets high before shifting.
Purchased vehicle new june 23 2023 and super cruise never worked and if engaged acted erratically. Vehicle spent over 40 days in several gm dealerships for the issue and one dealer even charged me for installing a warranty part.. Gm filled a case 9-10220813020 but were not helpful in dealing with dealers and to add insult to injury would not even reimburse me for warranty work or in any way compensate me for my time and efforts to fix the issue. Frustrated with gms indifference i traded the vehicle in march 2024.
The car needs an pcm upgrade because it’s lit up a code in randomly situation. Causing the vehicle to lose the water temperature gage, power steering wheel assistance reduced and ac stop working, gmc is aware of the problem even issued a technical bulletin in 2018, but instead of inform the clients about the defective part, they want the client with this problem to pay to upgrade a defective pcm that came out from factory with problem. Note the power steering wheel assistance is part of the safety of the car. The problem always existed in the car, it toke me 2 years to find the problem.
