  • Failed components: ENGINE and FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

While driving steam started to appear from the engine bay. I pulled over to inspect, lifted up the hood and could hear the fuel line popping and gasoline hissing out. The engine bay spontaneously caught fire. As it ignited all of the gasoline in the air combusted and created a ball of fire in my face as i was looking in the engine bay. The fire was put out by the fire department. An incident report was created. The potential for safety risk was high and could have been worse if i was not on a road where i was able to stop or if it caught fire while i was inside the car. The vehicle has been inspected by insurance and confirmed to be a total loss. Since nothing was left to visually inspect of the car their investigation came back nonconclusive as to the cause. There were no indication lights that there was anything wrong with the engine.

I was stopped at a light and was the first vehicle. When it turned green i started to go. I saw a short ways in front of me one of those metal plates over a hole in the road. I started to coast from 20 mph with the anticipation i would be at 10 mph when i got to it. Just before i would go over it the emergency brake system kicked in and took the vehicle to a stop. I tried to make it go by stepping on the gas but it came to a complete stop. I am thankful the vehicle behind me did not hit me.

While car in sport mode in center lane of a three lane road at 45mph traffic ahead by over 300ft began gently slowing down to +/- 25mph extreme braking was automatically applied w/o driver input, "brake" message was displayed flashing on instrument cluster. Car came to an immediate stop, nearly causing collision with another vehicle behind it.

Car has 4800 miles. I've owned since new (5 months). No issues prior to this. Stopped a stoplight. The gas engine stopped running, which is typical for a hybrid when not moving. After 15 seconds, every warning/error message started cycling on the driver's dashboard screen, referencing "brake system malfunction" among many other failures. Pressing the gas pedal and there was no forward movement. Brakes still worked. Put in park. Pressed "start" to shut down car. It didn't fully shut down (dash still lit up). Pressed start again, still many errors but car would move. Drove immediately home. After 2 hours, pressed start again and no errors. After 2 days of no driving, got appointment with local honda dealer service. Drove it carefully and had no issues. After two additional days of evaluation, honda says it's the ignition control module (part# 5k80030ba06). They had to keep the car longer to allow regional honda rep to inspect and document the car's issue, as they said this issue is becoming a trend. Lastly, they told me it could take 6 months to get the part, due to a "national backorder" but offered no options/alternatives. Said car is unsafe to drive. This is unacceptable and i hope is investigated. This is a very dangerous issue. Had i been driving, it could have been far worse result. Attached is a photo of 1 of the many error messages that rotated on the dashboard.

2022 Honda Insight
  • Date of Incident: Apr-10, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-18, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

April 17, 2024. Feds expands investigation into Honda’s automatic emergency braking system. “BRAKE” flashes on the dash. As shown in your article. Insight slows down for no reason. I’m a very cautious driver and around my surroundings. No accidents Not told to my dealer or manufacturer. What would they do? Keep me in the waiting room for hours. Then tell me there is nothing wrong. No prior messages before hand. I maintained my vehicle in perfect condition. 14k miles. 2 years old on May 1, 2024. Garaged. My vehicle has this happen all the time. Usually when traveling under 40 mph. In city driving. No vehicles are ahead of me. Thank you.

When driving around sharp corners at a moderate to fast speed, the automatic emergency braking system will sometimes display a message on the dash saying "brake" and a warning beep will sound. I do not believe that the braking system engages, however the "brake" warning is very discerning.

2018 Honda CR-V

  • Failed components: STEERING

This is my second statement - my 2018 honda crv has a steering issue that began at about 75,000 miles - currently there is 86,000 miles - honda did a diagnostic test for $175. 00 and told me the test showed no error codes - they then informed me the steering rack needed to be replaced at a cost of about $3000. 00 but the replacement part is on back order until september 2024 - this crv is my only mode of transportation and i am concerned this steering issue is a danger - i have read that many honda's are having this steering issue but not all are being recalled - shouldn't honda fix this issue on all of their models? Thank you and have a nice day!

The steering wheel sticks requiring extra force while driving to stay in the lane. Particularly a problem when driving on a highway and when it is windy.
