2013 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Nov-16, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

When driving to work the car stopped running in the middle of the highway. We had to pull off to the side of the road, turned off the car and when turning it back on the engine wouldn’t start. The eps, low oil, check engine, battery, and low tire pressure lights were all on. I took the car to my mechanic and he said the engine seized due to the crankshaft breaking.

My door lock actuator has gone out once again and it seems to be a common issue i believe it could potentially be a safety hazard if the actuator goes out and driver is unaware could potentially get drivers or other passengers stuck in vehicle.

2020 Hyundai Elantra

I have a code "P0867 Transmission Fluid Pressure" that showed up on my car. Yes. Dealership refused to fix under "Service Campaign 963". Dealership confirmed issue. No. There is a check engine light that appeared. To continue after the questions, Max Hyundai of Manhattan, address: 8020 US-24, Manhattan, KS 66502. Refused to fix my vehicle under "service campaign 963". As the service campaign indicates Code P0867 must be present, which it is. As well as a VIN that starts with 5NP, which my vehicle also has. As well as 20MY Elantra's. Which my car falls into that category as well.

On 3/28/24 i was in pennsylvania packing my car to make a trip back home to new hampshire. I closed the tailgate and it fell off and hit the bumper which dented the tailgate. I was able to put it up on the truck. When i checked further i was able to put it back but stopped often on my 7 hour trip to make sure it was latched. I was never informed that this could happen and my sales person and customer service for hyundai was not aware of this issue.

2015 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Apr-16, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:ABS WARNING LIGHT and POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, a message displayed reading, "Turn off the engine immediately." All warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Later, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost all motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. All warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, who then diagnosed failures with the ABS and transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

2019 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Apr-16, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, and SEAT BELTS

Airbag light came on. Car is in otherwise perfect shape (red flag). Brought to Hyundai dealer. Was told it was a short somewhere on front passenger side. But it will cost $250 to figure out where. Then possibly over $1000 to fix it!! Upon researching it I found many complaints on same issue on otherwise normal good condition Sonata’s. Clearly they used inferior components designed to fail. Similar to their stealable cars (with a USB cable) I’m sure you’re fermi liar with. They hid that until TIC TOK put out videos showing how to. They HAD TO fix it due to owners auto insurance going up (way up). I can’t afford to repair this pressing safety issue. Hyundai should be held responsible for using knowingly faulty parts in their air bag system then charging customer large $ just to make an otherwise perfectly running car safe to operate. Oh, then they said they’d offer me a “loaner” till fixed. But their “loner” costs $50 per day!! That’s a RENTAL not a loaner.

2016 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Apr-01, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING

I took in my 2016 Hyundai Sonata to Anaheim Hyundai in California for 60,000 mile service. The Sonata was having power steering issues where time to time the power steering would go out. I bought the extended warranty so it was cover under the warranty but Hyundai stop making these parts according to the dealership. I don't understand how Hyundai can stop making a power steering parts to Sonata models from 2016-2019 when there are so many on the road with potential power steering safety issues. I was told by the dealership there are so many issues with these Sonata's, the power steering parts are hard to find. They had no idea if they could get OEM parts or even find after market parts. I was originally told on April 1, 2024 when we took the car in it would take 2 to 3 days now two and half weeks later they have changed their story to "not sure when they are going to get the part" I don't understand how this was not a recall from Hyundai similar to Hyundai Sonata recall in 2016 for Sonata's made in 2010-2011. It appears Hyundai has multiples models with power steering issues and yet they stop making the parts, why? I would like someone at NHTSA to review the power steering failures that may or may not be being reported by Hyundai dealerships. Just trying to get the car fixed since my son drives it. Thank you.

2015 Hyundai Elantra

  • Failed components: ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, and VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Reporting my previous VIN in case it helps the new vehicle owner since I am sure they are facing similar defects that I am with my "brand new 2016 Hyundai Elantra". I previously owned a brand new 2015 Hyundai Elantra and had to file a claim after flooding occurred in Kyle, Texas. The 2015 Elantra title was transferred to USAA after filing a claim for TOTAL LOSS due to engine flooding on October 30, 2015. Odometer reading on date of total loss is 7,673 miles. Vehicle appears to be sold again with same odometer reading January 2016. Both of my Hyundai Elantra's were purchased at Ron Carter Hyundai Dealership in Texas (Dealer number P113588). This dealership is now called Big Star Hyundai after DCG Acquisitions represented the sale in 2021 - just in time to deny and delay warranty covered defects to consumers who thought they purchased a brand new car. Hope this helps the current vehicle owner in case they are also over spending on dealership recommended "repairs" for their LEMON.
