2015 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Apr-02, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

The check engine light began flashing so i shut the car off and had it towed to west allis hyundai. The service garage took the car for a test drive (even though the user manual states not to run the engine), and according to the dealer, the car engine "blew up" and stopped running. I assume the engine seized up. The engine only has 43,000 miles and should be covered by the 100,000, 10 year warranty that comes from the manufacturer. The car has been at the dealer for over a week without any definitive answer if the engine will be replaced by hyundai under warranty. Also, the dealer has not provided a loaner car so i am without any transportation while my is in the shop. Note that since i've had the car all maintenance has been done by west allis hyundai.

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Date of Incident: Apr-08, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I have a Hyundai 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. I parked the car in the middle of my cement driveway. I went into my home for a moment to get my Stanley water bottle. When I walked back to the car, the engine compartment was on fire. I had 2 fire extinguishers and attempted to put out the fire by to no avail. My daughter immediately called 911 to report the fire. The fire department came and it took about 8-10 fireman to put the fire under control. I have owned all types of cars for the past 40-years. I have never seen a car go up in flames and burn to the ground in about one minute. Had I parked my car in the garage my entire house would have burn down while potentially killing my entire family. I called my insurance company (Geico) to advise them of the fire and asked them to contact Hyundai about the matter. Geico said its not their responsibility. I'm having difficulty contacting Hyundai to report this serious fire before some other family gets killed. I never was notified about any type of dangerous recall with the entire car burning down. I will try to contact Hyundai again tomorrow morning (April 18). Please help me with this matter as Hyundai must be held accountable for this fire almost killing my entire family. More importantly I wish to help prevent a similar situation for another family in the future. Thank You, Joseph Fradelos (917-922-6675 or Jfradelos@gmail.com)

The car suddenly and unintentionally accelerated. To avoid going through the back of my garage, i turned slightly and hit the frame of the garage. It continued to accelerate for a few seconds until i managed to stop it. I then backed up. Again, the car suddenly unintentionally accelerated. I managed to stop it. I slowly drove it into the garage. I left it in the garage until having it towed to planet hyundai. I did not want to drive it in case it accelerated on the drive to planet hyundai. I was driving about 5 mph when i hit the frame of the garage. The car continued to accelerate. Automatic emergency breaking and forward collision warning. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The inspector or the dealer could not reproduce the problem. The vehicle can be inspected. The vehicle has been parked at planet hyundai from 1/29/2024 to 4/15/2024 i reported the incident to hyundai usa. I have not received any inspection reports.

2013 Hyundai Elantra
  • Date of Incident: Apr-11, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES

A vehicle fire occurred while the vehicle was parked in an open carport, and caused significant fire damage estimated at approximately $2,000. No injuries occurred. Due to early actions of residents and neighbors, the fire was confined to the vehicle and it did not spread to the carport or single family dwelling. The fire originated in the engine compartment, and was probably due to an internal brake fluid leak within the anti-lock brake system (abs) module, which caused an electrical failure or malfunction. The vehicle has one (1) open safety recall that is incomplete at this time, and a remedy is not yet available. The vehicle owner stated that the abs, engine, and traction warnings lamps did recently come on. The insurance company involved was notified of this vehicle fire, and may have examined or inspected the vehicle.

2019 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Feb-21, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

Engine oil consumption failure. My car would not even make it to the 3,000 mile oil change without the low oil warning light coming on. Brought it to d'arcy hyundai in joliet, il for the consumption test.. After 1,000 miles my car was down 2 quarts! They then did a combustion chamber cleaning. This cleaning made it so my car lags as it's driving and wouldn't shift properly and before it even left the dealership, the starter went out. Brought it back and they claim that after 1,000 miles the oil reads full, not any oil used whatsoever-which isn't possible. They are now denying fixing the engine. I am furious and when i get stuck again due to the oil consumption issue, they will make me start all over again and it may not be covered due to being over the mileage shortly. (i have about 2,000 miles left of my warranty) my sister has a kia and the same garbage was pulled with her vehicle! She also had issues after the combustion cleaning costing her a starter, battery and alternator. Hyundai and every dealership knows this issued exists and the recall should be made immediately without all of this garbage.

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • Date of Incident: Sep-23, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-17, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. I was notified the ABS module may leak hydraulic fluid on electronics that can cause a fire while driving or parked. This SAFETY issue was found in September 2023. After 7 months a remedy still has not been found. How long is a suitable amount of time to wait for a solution? How long should I need to wait for this to either bun down or get fixed? A remedy has been found for the Santa Fe Sport. Will this same fix, work for my Santa Fe? If it will I am willing to pay for it and wait for reimbursement. The would be better than wondering if my vehicle is going to catch fire while I'm driving down the highway. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. David Bowler
