Consumers have filed a total of 3,142 complaints for Cherokee models.
When backing out of flat driveway onto a downhill slope the vehicle transmission fails to go into drive, seeming to be hung up in neutral for 3 maybe 4 seconds then into drive. This problem has also presented itself when backing out of a parking space on any grade. Transmission and engine were flashed by dealer at 5200 miles. No improvement. Mechanics at dealership said they are not aware of the problem. At 5215 miles she going back to shop. Same issue. Vehicle is not safe to drive!
I WAS DRIVING HOME AND HAD TO COME TO A FULL STOP DUE TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE JUST SHUTS DOWN, AND THERE'S A MESSAGE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO DESIRED GEAR. THE CAR WAS ON DRIVE BUT DID NOT RESPOND. I SHIFTED GEARS FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND GOT NO RESPONSE FROM CAR. IT ALSO SEEMED TO INDICATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED, BUT IT WAS NOT. HAD TO TURN OFF CAR COMPLETELY (ON A THREE LANE STREET), AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. I GOT THIS CAR 4 MONTHS AGO, BOUGHT IT USED WITH 36,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. NOW I SEE THIS IS A RECURRENT PROBLEM ON MANY CherokeeS, AND I'M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT FCA HAS NOT LOOKED INTO FIXING THIS ISSUE. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE TO A DEALER.
WITHOUT WARNING MY 2016 Jeep Cherokee WILL STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE CHECKED THE OIL AFTER THIS OCCURRED AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL LEFT. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-45 MPH AND WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS. THE OIL IS CONSISTENTLY CHANGED AT 5000 MILES AND THIS OCCURS AFTER ABOUT 2000 MILES
45695 miles "service shifter" showed up on the dashboard. I was on the highway and all the shift lights were on.
My keep is not even at 30. 000 and the service shifter light came on. I went to turn it on from the parking lot and that? S when i noticed it.
4 different times and months apart when driving on the freeway, vehicle loses power and the transmission light goes on. Max speed at this point is about 20 miles per hour. Each time i have limped the car off the freeway and shutdown. I waiting a few minutes the car starts back up and drives ok but the check engine light is still on. When i get home or work and the car is parked for an hour or so the check engine light clears and because of this dealership can not code it. Not sure if it is a transmission issue or computer issue. Seems very random but only occurs when traveling at highway speed. With no proof and it being random did not know what to do. Saw a news report for a recall but not my vin, but the description of the problem was very much the same. Jeep should expand the recall before someone gets injured during one of these incidents.
Upon slowing down around 20 mph the vehicle starts to accelerate requiring a harder press on the brake. If i let off the gas around 40 mph the vehicle maintains speed before it starts to accelerate. Eventually the vehicle will jolt and the service transmission light comes on putting it in a limp mode with little forward momentum when pressing the gas. The dealer said its the abs control module but the factory wouldn't replace it because the dealer couldn't prove it was bad. At that point the 2015 kl trailhawk had around 33000 34000 miles on it and still under warranty.
A pin fell out of the shifter while driving on the highway causing it to malfunction
Vehicle dies at speed on the interstate. No warning only one error when it happens pertaining to the start/stop system needing service. Has also happened sitting in a parking lot at idle. Oil level is good. Battery is new. Dealer replaced the pcu but problem happened again the same day we left the dealer. So far they have had it another week and cannot duplicate the problem. No obdii error codes.

2019 Jeep Cherokee COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE DECELERATING ON THE INTERSTATE. LOST ALL POWER, STEERING, AND BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN PARK. CALLED 3 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERS WHO TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DIAGNOSE IT UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS IN AND THAT I SHOULD CALL BACK IF IT DOES IT AGAIN. THE 4 CYLINDER MODEL HAS A RECALL FOR A SOFTWARE GLITCH FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, BUT MINE IS A V6. I HOPE I LIVE THROUGH REPLICATING THE EXPERIENCE SO I CAN CALL THE DEALER TO BE TOLD THEY CAN'T/WON'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG.
Service shifter dash warning comes on while driving. At the same time, the prnd lights on the gear selector light up. The notification clears and the lights turn off when the vehicle is shut off and restarted; however, the notification will appear again intermittently. The vehicle has been serviced for this issue three times and will go in for another service to resolve this issue on wednesday, july 29. As of now, the vehicle has not been repaired and the warning light still comes on.
On a recurring basis, the dashboard lights up with a "service shifter now" message and all lights on the gear shift are illuminated. After a restart, the lights go away and the car resumes normal functionality. This has happened multiple times over the past 6-8 months.
While driving, the vehicle shuts down, i lost all control. A message popped up that said? Apply brake and put in park or neutral? The engine slowly lost all acceleration and came to a complete stop. The car beeps and said? Low battery? But all lights and voltage reading was completely normal. I turned car off, restarted car, and it was fine, i drive it another 100 meters and it repeats this exact cycle all the way home.
My vehicle stalls for no reason and i? M terrified to drive it

Vehicle randomly loses power while driving. Engine has plenty of oil. After car shuts off sometimes it won? T turn right back on. No engine lights pop up indicating issue with car before or after. Randomly car will not turn on after being parked either for hours (at home) or minutes (parking lot) sometimes will turn on, sometimes not at all. Plenty of oil in car. No engine lights flash before or after problem.
WAS DRIVING OUR 2019 Jeep Cherokee 3.2L TRAILHAWK AND AS WE WERE BRAKING FOR A STOP SIGN IT JUST DIED ON US. IT STARTED BACK UP BUT STUTTERED AS IT TURNED OVER. SOMETHING IS A MISS BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER DID THIS. ALWAYS RUNS GREAT IN THE PAST???? WHAT IN THE WORLD 🌎 IS GOING ON???
While driving 40 -50 mph on highway 89 in flagstaff, az i noticed a dash message stating that the speed was too high to shift into 4 wheel low, about a minute later i noticed a dash message that stated the differential lock could not occur and i noticed that the 4 wheel low button was flashing red. A minute later dash message 4 wheel low was canceled and the 4 wheel low light stopped flashing. I stopped at about 3 lights about 1 mile apart. On the 3rd light i had to turn left and merge into oncoming traffic before entering interstate 40. As i began to accelerate the transmission bucked several times and then as i moved in front of on coming traffic the drive system disengaged and the engine revved. There was no dash message nor were there any trans axle lights flashing. As i coasted to a stop traffic was piling up behind me. I placed the the transmission into neutral and then back into drive, but it did not engage. As i was almost stopped, i hit the brakes and stopped, then turned the engine off and placed the transmission into park. I then restarted the engine and it shut off, so i started it again and placed the transmission into drive and it engaged. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated there was nothing they noticed or could do. Although i did not think i had pressed the 4 wheel low button, i considered that i may have inadvertently, so after leaving the dealership i tested to see if i could create the same condition and i could not. I also noticed that the buttons for the trans axle were not easy to push inadvertently. Also, when pushed the lights on the buttons would flash yellow and not red. This transmission has been slow to engage and buck at times since new. It also goes into neutral when trying to downshift before shifting to a lower gear on down slopes. I am worried that it could be dangerous if this condition occurs again at the wrong time.
