  • Failed components: ENGINE

Purchased the car certified preowned from a kia dealer with 45,000 miles on it, meaning i would have the the remaining 55,000 miles of the 100,000 mile powertrain coverage. At 77,000 miles a small ticking noise started on the way to work and became a knock on the way home. I pulled over where it was safe and towed it to the dealer. They replaced the engine under warranty. Now at 154,000 everything has been running great except for burning oil rather quickly. Where i get my oil changes done offers free top-offs so i would return frequently to make certain the oil level was always in the safe zone. Driving home from work one night, i was on a busy freeway when suddenly and without warning a small squeak noise came from the engine and it stalled. Luckily i just happened to be in the right lane and there happened to be a narrow but safe shoulder to coast over to. Had this happened while i was close to the fast lane, the consequences could’ve been dire. The engine would not hardly turn over and would not start. I had it towed to my mechanic who said it sounds like a serious engine problem and you should contact the dealer. I towed it to the local kia dealership where the service department informed me that there was an extended 50,000 mile warranty added to the original 100,000 warranty (which i was never notified about) but since i was 4,000 miles over i did not qualify. This means the replacement engine quit after 77,000 miles just like the original. I feel that they should in good faith honor the warranty - had i been informed i could brought the car in just 4,000 miles earlier and they would’ve checked the compression and determined that the rings were failing which is why it used so much oil, and they would’ve replaced this second engine under warranty.

  • Failed components: ENGINE

I was driving down the road on 4/18/2024 and my engine locked up. I got it off the road as far as i could, but was very dangerous spot. All maintenance has been done on this suv. I had it towed to a local independent shop where i was informed it was locked up. No warning light came on. I just lost all power and coasted to the side of the road. It is available for inspection at the shop it was towed to. No repairs have been done at this time.

The power sliding door does not reverse or stop closing if something is in the way. Our child closed his arm in the door and it would not stop.

2023 Kia SPORTAGE
  • Date of Incident: Feb-19, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-21, 2024
  • Failed components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

When on a cruise control it started accelerating on its own to an extremely high speed. Happened a few time to me. Clears only if you restart the vehicle. Scary. I have a video to proof, it won’t let me attach the video. I know that some other people had experience same, i seen comments on facebook group for kia sportage hybrid 2023. I filed under lemon law for this vehicle for a different reason in june 2023. But manufacturer still haven’t gave me a comparable vehicle and i have to drive this death trap.

Vehicle lost its power while trying to park. It could not be locked either. This is the second time this has happened. The first time, dealership said they replaced the auxiliary battery. When it got towed the second time, the dealership said, we only recharged the aux battery during the last complaint! Now, the dealership does not have anyone who can look into this issue for one week. Added to that, they do not have any loaner cars either! The car has 10,523 miles on it now. Car had 8000 miles during the first incident. We feel this is dangerous, unacceptable quality and not to mention, unbecoming of a vehicle brand not to give us a loaner car and expect us to wait a minimum of 10 days to figure out the problem.

2014 Kia Sorento
  • Date of Incident: Apr-01, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-20, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

While driving car it suddenly lost acceleration. Rmp's wouldn't go above 1. 5. Speed wouldn't go above 20mph. Check engine light came on. Was going up a hill with lots of cars behind me and suddenly could barely move. Made it to an advance auto and they ran diagnosis on the check engine light and it came up with 2 different codes, relating to fuel system and crankshaft. When i got the vehicle to my local mechanic they saw the codes also, and that the car had gone through 4 quarts of oil. I wasn't at the mileage for an oil change yet, so not sure why oil was almost gone. Mechanic did and oil change and issue was still not fixed. Stating engine needs to be replaced. I have several other people with kia's who have also recently expirenced massive oil consumption and engine dying. Car was running fine prior to just going into "limp" mode randomly. However i have had a battery issue with this vehicle since day one of purchase. I have been to several mechanics including a kia dealership with no one being able to pinpoint what is draining the battery. I have had to replace the battery 6 times in 3 years, with my vehicle being dead every other day and sometime every day from oct-mar.

My kia motor was ordered kia gave me a hard time to rent me a car. I went 2 months with no transportation. Finally i got my car back and every 3 weeks different lights are coming on. Seat belt is now own o2 sensors had to be changed now cadillac converter light is on. I didn't know that getting a new motor i would have to keep spending money that i don't have. Kia should be responsible for this it shouldn't be my fault that i'm being punished for a bad motor.

1945 credit one: 65 nordstrom: 116 taxes: 133 discover: 148 care credit: 54 cap: 60 (small) cap: 187 (big) *75* 2018 kia forte was brought to a kia dealership within standard time frame since release of ignition coil recall to remedy said issue (released recall dated: 2020). Ignition coil has since went out, resulting in the 2018 kia forte being brought back to the [same] kia dealership for the [same] repair. Kia dealership has stated the ignition coil that was placed in 2018 kia forte is not “under warranty”, and full market value price plus diagnostic, and labor is warranted. It appears the mileage of when the original 2020 ignition coil repair was complete, is “coincidentally” the exact mileage the ignition coil went out again (20k miles). Assuming the ignition coil used to remedy said recall back in 2020 is faulty; as ignition coils should last within 80k-110k miles. Thus, should not be the financial burden or responsibility of the consumer.
