2012 Kia SPORTAGE
  • Date of Incident: Apr-16, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I was not aware of the hecu problem and did not receive a letter in nov-23 or mar-24 about the serious hydraulic electronic control unit that is starting fires with some kia sportage 2012 cars and others. The problem is listed as recognized in 09/2023 and it is now 7 months after this point. I called kia quirk in braintree, ma and they were unable to provide me with the hecu fuse replacement unit for the abs system. The nhtsa. Gov website recommends that owners of vehicles included within the recall to not drive their vehicles and do not park near structures and/or other cars. But kia dealerships do not have the product to fix the problem that is cited as urgent. Please notify me as to what is the best remedy and more so, the dealership since you are unable to find 'the perfect solution,' is there a safe and tested solution that may be used instead to protect owners of vehicles. 2016 Kia Soul
  • Date of Incident: Apr-13, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE and FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Vehicle entered limp mode on a dangerous rode in central florida and would not accelerate over 20 mph. We had the vehicle towed 70 miles at the expense of $350 outside of coverage by our auto insurance. The dealership advised this was a failure of the catalytic converter which was just changed in dec 2021 under a kia recall campaign. They’re now saying it is not under warranty as they only cover 12 months 12,000 miles.

2018 Kia OPTIMA
  • Date of Incident: Dec-13, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-16, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

My 2018 kia optima experienced an oil consumption issue. After awhile out of nowhere my vehicles oil light kept coming on. There was zero oil in my garage. Unbeknownst to me it was burning oil due to this oil consumption issue. I took it to multiple mechanics all which told me that this issue is a known issue and would eventually blow the engine, which is exactly what happened. I reached out to kia in person via dealerships over the phone via their consumer line and they went out of their way to tell me all the reasons why they could not replace the engine. I have spent enormous amounts of money on rental cars and ubers and lyfts to get to work or appointments just to because of this issue. I was referred to this organization by the ga consumer bar help line.
