Kia Complaints

2015 Kia Sorento
  • Date of Incident: Oct-06, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

1. The engine seized and lost total power at 74,795 miles due to faulty rod bearings manufactured by kia and due to metal shavings left within the engine compartments. Yes, i have the vehicle in my possession. It is stored at my apartment garage and it is available for inspection. 2. I was driving my vehicle on the highway prior to sudden engine seizure and loss of power. The check engine light appeared for the first time on 10/6/23. I immediately took my vehicle to my mechanic (same day on 10/6/23) where it seized and lost complete power on the road. It had to be pushed into the mechanic's garage by hand. Total loss of power of my vehicle could have resulted in a catastrophic accident and injuries to myself and others. I could have lost control of the vehicle and i could have been rear-ended or side-swiped at a high speed on the highway or the street. Additionally, my vehicle was recalled due to a faulty hecu/abs module, which could have resulted in engine fire and it was recalled due to increased theft risk because my vehicle was manufactured without an engine immobilizer. Kia did not notify me of any recalls nor did they notify me of their self-proclaimed and self-manufactured ksds and "product improvement campaign - p11802". Kia corp (irvine, ca) only provided a sample letter on 11. 13. 23. 3. Yes, the defect was confirmed by my mechanic, kia corp, and by the grand kia dealership in thornton, colorado. 4. Yes, the vehicle was inspected by the grand kia dealership in thornton, colorado. Grand kia confirmed that there was no rotation of the crankshaft and no power or codes detected upon scanning the engine. Grand kia confirmed that the engine failure was due to their faulty rod bearings, but denied engine replacement because i did not upgrade my engine with their ksds/"product improvement campaign", although they upgraded my car with the ksds upon diagnosis to cover up. Grand kia stated that engine seizure is not a safety issue. 5. Yes, check engine light.

2016 Kia FORTE
  • Date of Incident: Apr-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES and ENGINE

I was attempting to park in a parking spot that i use regularly at dollar general. As it was coming to a stop, the brakes failed. I was pushing the brake pedal down. The car started to rev up and speed forward on it's own. It lunged forward jumping the curb and into the pillar. It wouldn't stop going forward. So i had to put it in reverse. As i did that, i put the brakes on as well as the ebrake. It was wanting to speed in reverse for a second. So i threw it into park and turned it off. My family and i went into the store to let the car settle down. Then we was able to drive it home and park it. So it's currently sittling in our driveway here at home.

2021 Kia TELLURIDE
  • Date of Incident: Apr-01, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

Vehicle has a vibration at 60-75 miles per hour. It's a rhythmic vibration that you can feel in the gas pedal and sense in the front of the vehicles drivetrain. Kia has a tsb about this issue. Kia tsb 099. But our vehicle is past the 60k mile warranty period that would protect it. Kia knows that some cars manufactured between the start of production and february 2021 have this issue. They know which production lots of the affected parts have the issue, yet they refuse to make it a recall issue. Anyone who is unlucky enough to lapse the warranty period is such with a detective part that kia is fully aware of. The issue is so difficult to diagnose, i had to go to two dealerships to even get an answer about what the issue might be and that the warranty will not cover it.

2012 Kia SORENTO
  • Date of Incident: Apr-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

This model has been under a recall notice since september 25, 2023. The recall notice advises owners to park their car away from structures in fear of fire. According to the most recent data available, kia has not even completed the remedy for the issue and has communicated nothing to owners about the status of a fix. It is now eight months since this recall was issued -- eight months of not knowing about the status of the repair, which not only affects the potential safety of the vehicle and structures, but the vehicle's potential resale value. Will someone please suggest to kia that they make safety a priority and fix this? After eight months with no information, it feels like another effort by kia to make serious problems go away by ignoring them.

2023 Kia TELLURIDE
  • Date of Incident: Feb-20, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and STEERING

The car steering wheel locks up while driving. All of the safety lights/warnings pop up on the screen and the car steering wheel locks up and cannot turn while driving. This has happened 3 times while driving and it is very dangerous to not be able to steer. It is putting myself and my children (who are in the car with me) at risk when my car cannot steer. It is going to cause a major accident if this is not fixed. The car is a 2023 (one year old) and has had to be towed to the local dealership and then returned to me saying something was a "loose connection". It is once again back to the dealership now for the same problem.

The failure mileage was approximatley 81,000.

2023 Kia RIO
  • Date of Incident: Jan-29, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, and POWER TRAIN

When i started my car, during the warm-up process, it dropped revs and turned off. After several tries, it turned on. While driving, when the vehicle was stopped, it began to jerk slightly. The safety risk is that the car, while i am driving, could turn off and cause an accident, in which people could be at risk, including me. I wouldn't want this to escalate because the dealer doesn't take action on the matter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to evaluate the condition, they say that the technicians did not find anything, that the car did not emit any codes. And therefore they couldn't do anything. Note that i bought that car completely new, 0 miles, in march of last year. And in january the problem started. It is also worth noting that the car had to have a rack&pinion change in less than a year, due to a noise it made when the guide turned. All maintenance has been done with the official auto grupo kia dealership on kennedy, in puerto rico. I fear my safety and that of others behind the wheel, if the major fault in my car is not fixed.
