2020 Kia OPTIMA
  • Date of Incident: Mar-01, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

Engine is burning 1-2 quarts of oil per week. I work from home so it only get driven once or twice a week max. I’m still making payments on a car that is unsafe to drive, eating oil, and running potential for the engine to lock up due to it being the exact same engine with the exact same issues as what is in prior years but for some reason to 2020 was not included in the recall. I am a single mother of 4 and can’t afford to put thousands of dollars worth of work into this car, that’s why i bought newer for reliability and i can’t even confidently put my kids in this car and am stuck with it for another 4 years. Kia needs to address this!!

2015 Kia OPTIMA

  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

Loss of power to engine when trying to increase speed to turn into traffic/getting onto the highway and constant severe engine knocking noise. I have to use hazards when turning into traffic/merging onto highway because the vehicle takes too long to catch up with the speed of traffic. It also has a problem with excess oil consumption, needs to be refilled every week and a half to two weeks. Bremerton transmission has provided an inspection and a diagnostic trouble code (dtc) p1326 (knock signal range/performance). The oil consumption has been an ongoing issue since i bought the car in february of 2022, only getting worse. The rest of the issues have been escalating problems.

2019 Kia OPTIMA

Engine is consuming extreme amounts of oil. I have never been late for an oil change, and often go before i’m even due. My car was stalling and the rpm was fluctuating. I had to pull over and turn the car off. I then noticed my oil light on for 2 seconds, then it turned off. I’m not due for an oil change for another 2,000 miles. I pulled in to a mechanic shop (thankfully i was right next door) and low and behold, hardly any oil in my car. Had maybe half a quart left. I should have been good for another 2,000 miles. This is not the first time this has happened either. I no longer feel comfortable driving myself or my kids in this vehicle. It has been nothing but constant worry about my engine dying, burning or stalling. This car only has 70,000 miles on it and only 4 1/2 years old!!!! This is the second incident of this car jerking and stalling on the highway. Thankfully i’ve been able to pull over to avoid being slammed. I had the oil topped off so the engine could function, but once again, i was not due for a change.

2014 Kia CADENZA
  • Date of Incident: Mar-27, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I received an interim notice of safety recall number 23v652 dated november 14, 2023 from kia regarding the hecu unit having a possibility of an electrical short circuit which could cause a fire. The recall notice recommends parking outside. It is now entering april of 2024. I sent a letter to nhtsa dated february 9, 2024 complaining of the extended time for kia to provide the parts necessary to service the recall. Now the time involved is becoming egregious. Nhtsa should be demanding kia to service the recall in the interest of public safety. I request nhtsa do so.

2023 Kia SPORTAGE

  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

I purchased a new 2023 kia sportage hybrid from bill dodge kia in westbrook, maine in december 2022. Beginning in january 2024, there have been numerous times when the gasoline engine does not come on, even at highway speeds. I have brought it to the nashua and manchester kia dealerships, and kia corporate has even sent out an "expert' to look into the matter. Though the dealership was able to duplicate the problem, ultimately they said they didn't know how to fix it and it was released back to me. Here's the kicker: i asked if they would buy the car back from me because i didn't want it, and they said "oh no, we know there's something wrong with it. " it was out of service for 74 days. There were no warning signs before it happened. I have videos of it happening.
