Notice that when the car is in motion or stationary, the vehicle shakes and then the engine seems to be normal again. This issue has been happening now for the past 4-5 months. I figured it had to do with the last recall that we had, but that clearly not the problem. I'm concerned that the car may shut down while i'm driving as this may cause and accident.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 Kia Sportage. THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE CONSUMED OIL VERY QUICKLY. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE CYLINDER MISFIRES AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
Car just shutdown on me doing 75 in a 70. Mileage was not high and maintenance wasn? T need according to the dashboard. Car was great then just out of nowhere shutdown due to faulty engine they keep saying.

ON OCTOBER 6,2020 MY 2017 Kia Sportage SEEMED TO HAVE EXCELLERATION ISSUES; THE CAR WOULD HESITATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THEN ABOUT A WEEK LATER 10/9/20 MY ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I USED FIXD APP TO ASSIST DIAGNOSIS. 420 CODE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. TOOK IT TO REPUTABLE SHOP WHERE THEY CONFIRMED AND SUGGESTED I TAKE TO KIA DEALER DUE TO 80,000 MILE CATALYTIC WARRANTY. I DID THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY. KIA STATED THAT THEY HAD TO RUN THEIR OWN DIAGNOSIS AND WOULD CALL ME. THEY CONFIRMED THE 420 CODE BUT STATED THEY SIMPLY ?RESET? THE COMPUTER STATING THIS IS KIA DIRECTIVE PRIOR TO REPLACING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER; AND SAID TO BRING IT IN IF THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. IT DID A WEEK LATER; THEY REPLACED THE VCM MOTOR 10/19/20. NOW 11/7/20 ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND FIXD CODE 420 CATALYTIC CONVERTER AGAIN. THEY DID NOT WANT TO HONOR THE 80,000 MILE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARRANTY. I AM JUST UNDER 80,000 MILES NOW AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN WAS AT 78,000 MILES.
I bought this car in may of 2020 with 44k on the odometer. Three days later i was on a 3400 mile road trip on the highway when i started hearing knocking from the engine bay. I took it in and had them listen. They told me it was completely normal. The knock went away for about 400 miles then came back. I took it in to 4 different dealerships. I got told there had been a recall on the motor but that it had been fixed already. The day after i got home the car died at 30 mph on the way home from work and left me in the middle of a very busy intersection almost causing me to get hit. Took it in and it took them 4 days to find a bad fuse. The car over the next 3 months popped 12 fuses and kept dyeing on the road. Then i started having problems with it not turning over. Took it to a different dealership and they found a bad fuel pump and starter as well as a battery drain thats killed three batteries. Took the car to kia 9 different times to get looked at. 7 of those times they said there was nothing wrong with it. They said they knew about the drain but couldnt find it. Then they finally figured out the fuel pump was shorting out and causing the fuse to pop. They supposedly replaced the fuel pump in september of 2020 along with the injection pump. I was 50 miles from end of warranty the day after i get the car out of the shop it wont run for longer then 15 seconds. Not getting fuel. Left me stranded on the side of the road 45 miles out of town. Im back to square 1 because half the time my car wont start. The motor is still knocking and has no power with my fuel mileage dropping down to 11mpg it started revving up and speed not changing,not shifting correctly or just not shifting. My new shop discovered the transmission is failing fast. Ive had this car 6 months and am still paying for it and i cant even drive it safely. Complete transmission failure at 64,456 miles.
Car was in a collision with metal bridge barrier(standing solid object) head on, spun to hit both rear sides and spun some more and no air bags deployed. I hit my head on the driver side panel and resulted in a concussion. I was on the highway going about 65mph when i hit an ice block on the road, spun to the side and hit the metal barrie on the left side of the road head on and spun more to hit the back tire. Car is a total loss according to insurance.
2017 Kia Sportage BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM NEITHER THE INSIDE NOR THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY AUTISTIC SON WHO MUST CLIMB OUT OF THE CAR FROM THE BACK SEAT THROUGH THE FRONT SEAT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER KIA OWNERS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE POSTED ON HERE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY KIA.
The entire back of the sunroof has shattered. Car is only a 2019 with 15000 miles. We have a rogue which is over 5 years old and have had no issues with the sunroof.
On 10/9/2020 driving south on pa. Turnpike ne extension when engine stated knocking and losing power. Pulled over on the shoulder of the road and tried to restart it but it would not turn over. Contacted roadside assistance and had it towed to the nearest service station. They could not look at it until the next day as they were very busy. When they did look at it they said the engine needed to be replaced as something went wrong internally with the engine. They said they could get it to start but that it shouldn't be driven as the knocking on the engine was getting extremely loud when you try to accelerate. The car was then towed to another service station closer to home. It sat there for a week before they could look at it. They reached the same conclusion after replacing the engine air filter, the cabin air filter, cam shaft wt solenoid - exhaust with an oem part. When replacing the solenoid they noticed metal shavings in the motor oil. They informed me that the engine should probably be replaced. The vehicle has just over 93735 miles on it.
MY 2017 Kia Sportage COMPLETELY DIED ON ME. IT WAS TOWED TO JENSEN TIRES AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WAS TOTALLY BLOWN. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO H&H KIA IN OMAHA, NE AND SHANE CLAPPS (SERVICE PERSON) STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS INDEED BLOWN AND NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND DIED ON MY IN THE MIDDLE OF HWY 370 & 25TH ST IN BELLEVUE, NE. TRIED JUMPING THE VEHICLE, BUT IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. MY Kia Sportage IS HAVING MAJOR ELECTRIC ISSUES WITH THE USB DEVICE AND RADIO ALSO LIGHTS DELAY TO COME ON WHEN I TURN OFF VEHICLE WEIRD SOUND COMES FROM WHAT SOUNDS LIKE THE DASH AREA ALSO WHEN I TAKE MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION IT STILL MAKES THE DINGING NOISE LIKE THE KEYS ARE IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOOR IS OPEN AND WHEN I SHUT MY HATCH SOMETIMES IT CAUSES MY LIGHTS IN THE BACK TO FLASH ON DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND I DEFINITELY DON'T FEEL SAFE WITH MY VEHICLE LIKE THIS I HAD DID SOME RESEARCH AND THERE ARE OTHER KIA MODELS WITH ELECTRICAL RECALLS FOR CATCHING FIRE AND OTHER THINGS I HIPE KIA WILL DO SOMETHING TO MAKE MY VEHICLE OK AND MAKE ME FEEL SAFE WHILE IN IT IM HAVE ISSUES WHEN PARKED AND IN MOTION

Have changed oil in less that 3000 miles every time as it was supposed to be changed. Now i have metal shavings in my oil
WHILE MAKING A STOP SIGN MY Kia Sportage STARTED ACCELERATING INVOLUNTARILY LIKE IF I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY! I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF JUST TURNING MY VEHICLE OFF BUT AFTER I SWITCH THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL. THIS INCIDENT WAS VERY SCARY TO THE POINT THAT I DO NOT FEEL SECURE TO DRIVE IT. VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE.
While driving at low speed the engine cuts off. Also while trying to start the engine nothing happens. Totally dead,no warning ligths come on. Have battery check,no problem found,jump start every thing seems to be normal. This happen in several occasions.
When i accelerate sometimes the car will jerk and the engine will try to stall. The car will still go but starts to sputter and start to lose power. You have to pull over and shut the engine off and set there for a bit and restart the engine and it may do it again 2 or 3 more times and it might not do it for awhile. But very dangerous when pulling out into traffic. It will also do it when you try to speed up to pass or just gain speed

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V907000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, ENGINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
