2018 Hyundai Sonata
  • Date of Incident: Jan-12, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

The engine of my 2018 Hyundai Sonata has been losing oil at a significant rate. By the time I take my car in for a regular oil change the oil is either completely out or nearly out. I contacted Hyundai regarding an oil consumption test which is what was recommended to me by Hyundai corporate when I called to report the problem. Hyundai has completed the oil consumption test and although they stated that it is consuming oil at a higher than normal rate, it still meets their “standard” and the recommendation that they have was to fill up my oil every time I put gas in my car which is an unreasonable expectation . The safety risk is significant. Although Hyundai recognizes this is an issue, they have said that there is nothing they can do. For a vehicle that has only 79,000 miles on it, there is no indication of where the oil is leaking to. During my last oil change, valvoline stated that this is a known issue and that the oil leaks into the engine of the vehicle. Hyundai inspected the vehicle and again stated that although it is burning oil off at a higher than normal rate, their standards state that it is not burning off enough to warrant an engine repair. The oil warning light did appear just before my last oil change which was approximately January 2024. When the light came on, I immediately scheduled an oil change and that is when I was first made aware that this was a known issue with certain Hyundai models

2020 Chevrolet BOLT EV
  • Date of Incident: Mar-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING

The steering wheel does not return to center. When turning and then releasing the steering wheel to come out of the turn, the wheel stays where it is, causing the car to continue to turn. You must manually steer the wheel back to center position. This always happens when steering. It is not a one-time or intermittent. This is not safe as it makes the car go off the road. There is no warning light or alert from the car itself that something is wrong. I purchased the car used from a used car dealership and it is doing this when i bought it. They confirmed it. To my knowledge, no one else has inspected the vehicle's steering. Looking online, there seems to be many other chevrolet bolt owners complaining/experiencing the same steering problem.

2020 Ram 1500
  • Date of Incident: Dec-09, 2020
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The gas tank on the 2020 ram 1500 classic for some reason causes false fuel pump stoppages as if the tank was full. This causes fueling times to sometimes last 10 to 15 minutes and also causes a considerable amount of spillage due to the blowback of fuel. This creates a safety issue due to the possibility of fuel spraying back onto the driver. This is a known and recurring issue as i've seen it appear on several forums and pages numerous times from other ram truck owners. Mopar should make this gas tank issue a recall as soon as possible.

2013 Honda Civic

  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: AIR BAGS

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding a recurring issue with my vehicle's airbag system. Despite no physical damage to the vehicle and no apparent impact on the functionality of the airbag system, i am consistently receiving a "check airbag system" warning code. This message intermittently appears and disappears, causing significant uncertainty and raising serious safety concerns. Given the critical role of airbags in ensuring passenger safety, any inconsistency or potential malfunction in the system poses a significant risk. Even though there have been no visible signs of damage or issues, the persistent appearance of this warning message suggests an underlying problem that demands immediate attention. As a conscientious vehicle owner, i place the highest priority on the safety of myself, passengers, and fellow road users. Consequently, i implore honda, as the manufacturer, to conduct a thorough investigation and promptly address the recurring issue with my vehicle's airbag system. Ensuring that the airbag system operates reliably and consistently is paramount to safeguarding lives in the event of an accident. Regrettably, when i approached the honda dealership for assistance, i was informed that i would be held accountable for the cost of diagnostics and potentially the repairs. This response is unacceptable. Honda should assume responsibility for resolving a safety concern of this magnitude. I urge honda to reconsider their stance and take decisive action to rectify this matter without imposing financial burdens on their customers. By assuming accountability and prioritizing safety above all else, honda can uphold its commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. Thank you for your immediate attention to this pressing issue. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

2018 Ford Escape

  • Failed components: ENGINE

Went out to start the car one morning. It started up no problems. About 2 mins after starting it the car completely stopped running. No check engine light came on or anything. I thought it was the battery so i replaced the battery. Upon further digging i found out there was a recall in the engine from 2022 that i was not notified of. I took the vehicle to two different dealerships one that is just up the block from my house and the second one is where i bought the car. Both places confirmed that it was infact the recall problem, where the coolant leaks into the engine and destroys the engine block. The second dealership reached out to ford. Ford has refused to help fix the engine even though i was never sent or made aware of the recall on the engine.. I have also talked to a third ford dealerships who confirmed that there has been several vehicles with this same problem that does will not fix either. As a result i have a vehicle i cannot drive that i have to continue to pay for and ford is only offering me $5,000 as a trade in value but i owe $20,000. Had i been notified of the recall i would have been able to get it fixed before anything happened. I would have a in perfect condition car that was still usable. It is now financially hurting me. Ford should be held financially responsible for the gross negligence they are putting me through.

2023 Nissan PATHFINDER
  • Date of Incident: Mar-21, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

When we purchased this vehicle in june 2023, one of the first things i noticed, was an unusual switch on the steering wheel to allow, selecting and viewing all of the vehicle display information. This switch is located on the left side of the steering wheel. It is labeled ok meaning ok to display the selected menu item when you depress the ok button. The switch consists of a thumb wheel to go up or down on the menu selection, and then you depress the thumb wheel to engage the item selected. We’ve had the vehicle nine months and we were driving and my wife attempted to select something by rotating the thumb wheel and pushing ok button. The ok button got stuck in the down position disabling the ok button and preventing her from changing anything on the vehicle info screen. We consider being unable to access vehicle information a safety issue. The switch was promptly replaced by nissan under warranty. I am an electronics person and i consider this particular style switch too delicate for long term use, a bad design and one that will probably continue to fail. The issue with this switch is the “thumb wheel selector” for menu items instead of an up or down button like on our other three vehicles that do the same functions on those vehicles. Nissan made a very bad choice on using this type of switch.

2023 Mazda CX-30
  • Date of Incident: Mar-20, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-26, 2024
  • Failed components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The fuel gauge is non linear and erroneous. It is a safety issue because the level of fuel left is unpredictable and i have run out of gas in unfamiliar areas because of this.
