  • Failed components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Car jas adaptive headlight and it malfunctions every other but when it happen low beam and high beam depth go down atlest 20%. This car has very bright light for low beam and since low beam projection tilt down and stuck there while you r driving this make situation so dangerous in night. Light low beam depth(till where it illuminates the road) is so bad it makes you blind and wont be able to judge where the road solid line going to turn. I almost ran into road divider mazda dealer saying they don’t have solution and mazda has to provide it. I had this in writing when last went for servicing

Multiple instances of phantom braking, which resulted in two instances where we were just inches from being rear-ended. The circumstances of the phantom braking are similar, and has occured many times. Circumstances of phantom braking are as follows: vehicle in front in lane makes right hand turn from lane (with or without turn signal or braking). The vehicle in front typically has exited the lane, and the mazda emergency brakes hard! Variable vehicle acceleration/deceleration dynamics factors: the mazda could be coasting, decelerating with brake litely applied, accelerating in lane (because vehicle has fully exited lane), accelerating and exiting lane (go around turning vehicle). Variable turning vehicle rear lights (signals, brake lights) factors: the turning vehicles can be braking or not, turning with or without signaling- it does not matter. The mazda will brake hard regardless. This may be an extension of the same: when traveling on an interstate highway, nominally at the posted speed. When a faster vehicle safely accelerates into the mazda’s lane, the mazda will brake hard. The mazda does not recognize that the vehicle entering the mazda lane is accelerating, nor does the mazda seem to understand (anthropomorphism) the context (dynamics) of the situation (accelerating merging traffic). Hard braking in these circumstances has resulted in several near misses being rear-ended. The request for date below should be “na”, because the phantom braking has happened many times.

The manufacturer has not provided a timely remedy for a known safety issue on the backup camera for my car. (jul 14,2023; manufacturer recall number6023g; nhtsa recall number23v-487). I purchased the car in 2014. Around 2017, the backup camera began flickering and sometimes failing to load completely.  i took the vehicle to the mazda dealership in tustin, ca and they said there was nothing wrong with the camera. They said that i would have to pay approximately $500 for a new camera if i wanted one. I could not afford to replace the camera at that time, so the problem has persisted ever since. In july 2023, a notice of a safety recall was issued for the same issue with the camera. On 9/28/2023, i took the vehicle to the same mazda dealership and asked for the camera to be replaced due to the recall. They inspected the vehicle and agreed the camera was defective; however, they said they didn't have the parts yet to replace the camera and that i would receive something "official" about the recall later. It is now april 2024 and i have heard nothing. This safety issue has been going on for 7+ years and mazda needs to take responsibility. The fact that they wanted to charge me for the camera in 2017 and now they say no cameras are available leaves me to believe that they are stalling and just don't want to incur the cost to fix the safety issue.

2019 Mazda CX-5

  • Date complaint filed: Apr-19, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The infotainment screen is malfunctioning and acts on it own. Random parts of the screen are touched on its own creating a lot of distractions. Examples are changing of screens, settings, ending my navigation, calling contacts etcetera. This is a huge safety hazard and mazda dealerships are charging for diagnosis for a commonly known issue, claiming the cause is unknown, despite numerous posts and threads online linking this to a screen delaminiation issue.

The contact owns a 2019 mazda cx-3. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 20 mph. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the electrical wiring harness, finding that the harness appeared to suffer from normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000.

  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES and ENGINE

On april 3rd, around 5:20 pm, while driving with my daughter on a suburban street, my mazda hybrid experienced sudden brake failure as i approached a stop sign. Attempts to engage the brakes failed, but they unexpectedly resumed, allowing the car to stop safely. This incident triggered multiple dashboard warnings including "engine malfunction," "hybrid system malfunction," and "i-activesense system malfunction. " the hybrid battery’s range indicator also fluctuated erratically between 1 and 4 miles. The primary malfunction involved the vehicle’s braking system, with concurrent issues in the engine and hybrid systems as indicated by the alerts. The vehicle and all related components, along with the computer fault codes, are available for inspection and further testing at the mazda dealership. The brake failure significantly endangered the safety of both myself and my daughter, as we nearly entered an active intersection uncontrollably, which could have led to a severe collision, posing a grave risk to both occupants and pedestrians. Despite extensive diagnostics and approximately 33 miles of test driving under various conditions, the dealership was unable to replicate the brake failure, raising serious concerns about the braking system’s reliability and predictability. The dealership's technicians, in cooperation with mazda corporate engineers, have inspected the vehicle and analyzed the diagnostic data and fault codes. As of april 19th, the car remains with the dealership for further analysis. No additional inspections by police, insurance, or independent service centers have been reported. The inability to reproduce the brake failure and the spontaneous nature of the dashboard warnings underscore the necessity for continuous investigation by mazda. Without a clear resolution, my trust in the vehicle’s safety is deeply shaken, especially for driving in high-speed or heavily trafficked areas.

Oil light has come on indicating low oil. I have serviced this car through the dealership on schedule since i purchased it new. I don't believe modern cars should "lose oil" at less than 30,000 miles.

2018 Mazda CX-5
  • Date of Incident: Apr-12, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-19, 2024
  • Failed components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ENGINE, and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Despite a recall on the fuel pump, there continues to be a problem but instead of the “back” fuel pump that was fixed, the “front” fuel pump seems to be having the same issue. When taken to the dealer, the code p0087- fuel rail/system pressure too low shows up. This is causing car to stall, unable to pick up speed or simply pick up too much speed when attempting to accelerate. It’s a safety hazard for a car less than 6 years old.

Driving up snowy pass on i-90 approaching the top of snoqualmie pass. Vehicle stalled and warning lights flashed critical warning and loss of power. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and would not start or go into drive. After a few minutes, because of speeding and adverse conditions, another driver collided with my vehicle from behind. Another following vehicle lost control and ran off the road. Nobody was injured. Mazda has not provided any information to what happened with the vehicle. We added about 12k miles in the 5 months of driving it, so we had lots of testing with it, and never ran into this serious of an issue with this or any other vehicle.
