Happened to me two times in past three weeks, where i am coming to a stop, or hardly moving, and car suddenly accelerates. Had my foot on the brake and the car was still trying to accelerate. Yesterday, 4/24/21 it took all my strength on the brake to keep the car from pulling into oncoming traffic. I have been driving for 39 years and have owned many cars, and something like this never happened to me. I will be bring the car dealership tomorrow, the car has only 10k miles on it as we don't do a lot of driving with it as we owe two cars. I did not have my foot on the wrong pedal, this is very dangerous and if the dealer does not find anything with the car, i intend to sell it, as this is probably one of the scariest experience i had with a car. It is intermittent, so i am not sure when its going to occur, but twice in the last few weeks is not coincidence ( it also happened to my wife a few months ago, but we thought it could have been due to snowy road conditions). In one case i was coming up to a stop sign, and was braking and car was accelerating as i tried to break. I had to put car in neutral and the shut off car to get to stop. Yesterday, i was pulling out of a parking lot, and was waiting for an on coming car to pass me before i could turn onto road, when car was trying to accelerate, when i had my foot on brake, and took everything to keep the car from accelerating forward into on coming car. Once car passed, i made turn onto road, and issue did not repeat on the remaining mile to my house. I went onto a mazda forum and i saw a few others who raised the same concern/issue.
I heard a pinging sound coming from one of the wheels. When i got out and looked, i discovered the wheels are beginning to flake and degrade. I contacted mazda customer service and was told i would have to cover the cost of replacement as the vehicle is out of warranty.
Engine light came on then my vehicle started over heating and leaking coolant. Vehicle was towed to dealership. After technician diagnosed the problem, i was told it was the internal water pump that caused fluid to mix with the engine oil ruining the engine. I was told i had three options: buy a new engine, buy a used engine or buy a new car. I was told that this was an issue with this year, make and model for several customers. I asked why a recall notice was not given to vehicle owners and was told it was not a safety issue. It would have resulted in an accident if i was on the freeway due to the sudden occurrence of the breakdown. I was driving on a street in traffic. (middle lane)when my car started overheating and shut down. I managed to get it to restart and was barely able to safely pull into a parking lot where i quickly turned it off. I contacted the greenway mazda dealership to report problem and request tow service. Mazda has apparently been aware of this issue for a while.
EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE (?EPB?) BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION FOLLOWING RECALL TO FIX ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON Mazda CX-9, 2018. EPB WILL NOT RELEASE, OR WILL UNEXPECTEDLY AND SUDDENLY RELEASE WITH CAR ACCELERATING IN GEAR (?DRIVE? OR ?REVERSE?). MOST RECENTLY WHEN ACTIVATING THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE ((CAR WAS ON A A ROADWAY INCLINE) THE BRAKE WOULD NOT RELEASE, AFTER 2 HOURS OF BEING STRANDED AND OF ATTEMPTING TO GET THE BRAKE TO RELEASE, ( INCLUDING ROCKING/SHIFTING/ALTERNATING GEARS/BRAKING/SEAT BELT ON/SEAT BELT OFF/ MANUAL BRAKE ON/OFF AND FOLLOWING ALL MANUAL PROCEDURES REPETITIVELY) A CELL PHONE CALL TO THE MAZDA SERVICE MANAGER WHO SUGGESTED ROCKING THE CAR BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN GEARS ) THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ?RELEASED?, SENDING THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD AND REQUIRING DRIVER TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID DRIVING OVER A CLIFF). VEHICLE EPB INSPECTION REQUESTED, MAZDA SERVICE MANAGER STATED THE EPB IS, ?NO LONGER NECESSARY FOR VEHICLE SAFETY?, BLAMED THE MALFUNCTION ON ?BREAD CRUMBS? , OFFERED TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE CONSOLE SWITCH (PRESUMABLY WITH ANOTHER NEW, BUT ALSO DEFECTIVE, SWITCH) BUT REFUSED TO INSPECT THE MECHANICAL/OPERATIONAL ASPECTS OF THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM (FOR ABNORMAL RUST, WATER LEAKS, DEFECTIVE CABLES, DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL WIRING, ETC.). MAZDA USES THE SAME MANUFACTURER OF EPB FOR ALL MAZDA CX SERIES VEHICLES. FEDERAL NHSA RECALLS FOR EPB MALFUNCTIONS WERE MANDATED FOR ALL MAZDA CX SERIES VEHICLES - EXCEPT THE MAZDA CX 9. THE CX 9 USES THE SAME EPB SYSTEM AS DO THE OTHER MAZDA CX SERIES MODELS. IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THE BRAKING ISSUES FOR OTHER MAZDA RECALLS IS THE SAME REASON WHY THE CX 9 SHOULD HAVE RECALLS TO FIX THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL FOR MAZDA CX 9 VEHICLES TO FIX THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE DEFECT(S). THANK YOU.
I BOUGHT A USED 2017 Mazda CX-9 FROM WEST SHORE HONDA IN TAMPA IN JULY OF 2020. THEY SCREWED ME FINANCIALLY AND I'LL HANDLE THAT SEPARATELY. THERE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE THE FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER BUYING THE CAR. I'VE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES VIA EMAIL AND PHONE. I'VE BEEN TRYING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COUNTLESS TIMES. THEY KEEP STATING IT'S A TIRE ISSUE. TO THE POINT THEY HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES 3 TIMES. AFTER THE SECOND TIME I HAD ALREADY DECIDED IT'S NOT TIRES. THE CAR HAS A VERY ROUGH RIDE WHEN I'M MOTION. ONCE YOU GOT 80 IT WOBBLES. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS THE WOBBLE CAN BE FELT AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 55/60. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT I'M TOLD THERE'S NO CODES WHEN THEY DIAGNOSTIC THE READING. I'VE EXPRESSED THAT WHEN I PULL INTO MY GARAGE WITHIN 30 SECONDS TO A MINUTE THERE'S A LOUD POP IT'S WHEN THE CAR IS NOT IN MOTION WHEN IT'S BEEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF IS WHEN I NOTICED IT. I BROUGHT IT TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC JUST TO LOOK AT AND DRIVE AND HE'S PRETTY CERTAIN IT'S A POWERTRAIN BEARING OR SOMETHING OF THOSE SORTS. BROUGHT IT BACK TO WESTSHORE AND THEY PUT ANOTHER SET OF TIRES ON IT. THIS IS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR 9 MONTHS AND AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE AND SOME OF THE NHTSA IDS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. AND IT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS IN TIMES THAT I VISITED THAT DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND ALL THEY DO IS PUT NEW TIRES ON IT IS ASININE. I HAVE TONS OF DOCUMENTATION THE SAME DOCUMENTATION THAT'S AT THE DEALERSHIP I DO EVERYTHING VIA EMAIL FOR THAT REASON.
- the car was purchased new from a mazda dealer in may 2017 - the driver side cushion heater failed in march 2020. - the passenger side cushion heater failed in november 2020 - both sides exhibited the same problem despite the fact that the usage of the passenger side was about 25% of the driver - from the time the cushion heaters failed, we observed random overheating of the back heaters and recorded "hot spots" of up to 149 deg f (picture attached) - while the cushion heaters don't operate, the backs get too hot for occupants (attached picture of skin reaction) and at one point the passenger side partially melted a plastic shopping bag - mazda responded to the complaint that the car was outside of the 3-year warranty (expired in may 2020) and there were no related recalls so the company was not interested in any testing or investigation of the problem attached: - picture #1: temperature ir readings - picture #2: effect of the overheating on one of the occupants
Fuel cap light on in dec 2020. Our car mileage ~14,000 miles. We bought brand new cx9 2020 in august. Dealer inspected it and found nothing wrong. Dealer reprogrammed it. A month later jan 1,2021, fuel cap light is on on again. We ignored it thinking it is another program issue. Car started to jerk and vibrate at stop sign. We brought to dealer the next day. Dealer said charcoal box is leaking. I thought charcoal box should last a life time. They said it is not under warranty: $680 later, the jerking/vibrating issue is fixed. Hopefully that is it since we only have the car for 5 months
Unable to see through the backup camera when raining. In motion and stationary.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 Mazda CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE SUN ROOF GLASS FRACTURED WITHOUT IMPACT. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FRACTURE WAS NOT CAUSED BY AN IMPACT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTOBARN MAZDA OF EVANSTON (1015 CHICAGO AVE, EVANSTON, IL 60202, (888) 699-9643) WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,500.
Mazda smart braking system, front radar warning lights come on after car is started. Windshield and front emblem is clean. No intense heat. Comes on every time when started. Will not allow cruise control to be set. Sometimes a funny brake pedal feel when applied but does not brake by itself.... Yet. There have been tsbs on earlier models with a replacement front camera(fsc) fix. My car does have the? New? Camera but is obviously not functioning properly.
We purchased a 2015 mazda cx9 with 30,000 miles three years ago. At the start of the month, the car suddenly overheated while driving and the engine failed! The mechanic said the water pump failed, the coolant mixed with the engine oil and the engine was done. $$7944. 41 additionally, the overheated engine caused the transmission fluid to burn to a point the the transmission failed. $$4864. This happened at 65,000 miles, 5,000 miles past warranty. After researching the problem, we learned that this is a common problem on mazdas that use the duratech engine. There are thousands of examples and a class action lawsuit.
Multiple times while during inclement weather, pouring rain/sleet, the driver's side windshield wiper blade flew off of the car - causing a safety issue with visibility. We had to pull over to the side of the highway and switch to the passenger side's wiper blade, so that we could get to a safer place to be out of the way of traffic. It was night time during one incident and daytime during the other. The issue seems to be the way the wiper blade attaches to the arm.
Code p0016 came up one day prior to engine failure. 30 miles after check engine line came up loss power. Upon inspection water pump failure at 85000 miles. Engine most likely toasted
MY WIFE AND DAUGHTERS TOOK A TRIP, AND ON THE WAY HOME, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN TURNING ON THE ENGINE TO CHECK THE ENGINE LIGHT, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD. I WAS THINKING THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD TO DO WITH THE GAS CAP NOT BEING ON TIGHT SINCE FAMILY PURCHASED GAS ON THE TRIP BACK HOME. I DROVE THE CX-9 TO AUTOZONE TO DETERMINE THE CODE FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT. THE ATTENDANT AT AUTOZONE WAS UNABLE TO REGISTER A CODE. HOWEVER, I NOTICED THE BRAKES FELT DIFFERENT ON THE DRIVE TO AUTOZONE. ALTHOUGH I HAD TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO STOP, IT TOOK LONGER TO STOP. IT ROLLED TO A STOP. WHEN I GOT BACK HOME, I HEARD A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD. MAZDA'S OWNER'S MANUAL REGARDING THE ENGINE LIGHT INDICATES 1.) THE FUEL TANK LEVEL BEING VERY LOW, 2.) POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM, 3.) EMISSION CONTROL PROBLEM, OR 4.) FUEL FILLER CAP IS MISSING OR LOSE. THE NEXT MORNING I DROVE THE CX-9 TO SEE IF TIGHTENING THE GAS CAP WOULD CORRECT THE ENGINE LIGHT. DURING THE DRIVE, THE BRAKING SEEMED DIFFERENT. I WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL TO A STOP INSTEAD OF STOPPING. WHEN I WAS APPROACHING A CAR STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE VERY HARD TO AVOID THE VEHICLE. I PARKED IT AND CALLED THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER. AFTER THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY. I WAS CONFUSED ABOUT HOW A BRAKE BOOSTER AND AN ENGINE LIGHT CORRELATES. I'M ALSO TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ACTIVATED SINCE THIS RELATES TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. AFTER ADDITIONAL RESEARCH, I'M IN COMPLETE DISBELIEF THAT MAZDA IS AWARE, AND IT HAS NOT DECIDED TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO HAVE MAZDA RECALL THE BRAKE BOOSTERS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SINCE IT?S AWARE THE PROBLEM IS AN EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS ISSUE.
I? M constantly have a front windshield error : causing my vehicle to just automatically stoping while driving on the freeway and streets. My air bags didn? T deploy when i was i a accident. I? Ve taken it to the dealer 3 times already and they always have a different excuse or reason
I wanted to say it happened to us while we were driving back from a daytrip on saturday. We had our kids in the car and my husband was driving. All of a sudden the scbs light came on and the car just stopped giving gas. The car behind us couldn't tell we were slowing down because there was no brake light. We were almost rear ended. The car behind us couldn't stop in enough time so they just swerved onto the other side of us. We had to pull the car over and it was almost nighttime. My husband ended up pushing the car to get it off the road and to a safe place. It would only go 2 miles per hour. I had my car towed to the dealership, i have not heard anything from them except they are continuing to look into it. It's a 2018 mazda cx9 with only 26000 miles. It's never been in an accident. I'm hoping that whatever the fix is, it's covered under warranty. If it was a truck or bus behind us, they would not have been able to stop either. If we were on a highway and this happened, there is no doubt it would have caused an accident.
Soul red metallic paint excessive chipping. *tr
I have a problem with getting in my car and finding spiders and spider webs. I have been bitten by them and so has my fiancÉ. I got in the car yesterday and a web was coming from the air conditioning vent to the gear handle. *tr
2019 Mazda CX-9 SOUL RED, PAINT CHIPPING UNDER 30,000 MILES. NORMAL CAR DRIVING THIS SHOULD NOT CHIP. NOT SURE IF THEIR IS A DEFECT IN THE PAINT.
I just purchased my vehicle about 3 months ago. I was running errands about a week after purchase and was heading home on the highway when the gas notification came on displaying 27 miles left and advised me to get gas. I was about half mile from the exit and the vehicle check engine light came on and it started stalling. Thank fully i was able to get over to the median just in time when it shut down completely. I called roadside and the dealer and explained what happened. I had it towed back to the dealer and they advised me it was because i ran out of gas. I explained it had a quarter of a tank and displayed 27 miles left and it didn? T even give me 1 mile to get off the exit. It happened to my husband as well recently and i spoke to a certified mazda dealer and they explained it could be that the gas tank has a dent causing the reading to be off or one of two floats could be damaged and not reading correctly. I was advised this was a common issue with my year but it? S not on a recall. I usually get gas when it hits a quarter of a tank but now i? M afraid that i do it at a half a tank. This should be a recall problem as it causes the car to stall immediately which is dangerous. I had kids in my vehicle in an ice storm... I need to have this fixed but it? S well over $800.
