My 2018 mini cooper countryman s was involved in a front end collision with another driver who was traveling at approximately 50-60mph. We were traveling approximately 13 mph at time of impact and the front, knee or side air bag(s) did not deploy. I have a video of the accident as a dash cam was in place at the time of the accident.
Timing belt defective leading to serious engine failure requiring replacement. Within two weeks of replacement engine again was defective requiring a second replacement.
This is a brand model and brand new car that i had just purchased and was driving home from buying it- i had not even owned for a couple of hours. While on my way home vehicle malfunctioned and had near fatal collision. While driving on highway - at highway speed i was unable to control car and maintain speed. Engine seemingly locked up and as i was unable to control car almost caused a near fatal collision as car behind me did not realize i was losing speed. Taken to dealership and they noted the crankshaft speed pulse generator sensor had malfunctioned.
This is second incident that occurred with brand new mini cooper 2019 with same exact issue that again almost caused a near fatal accident. While driving on highway, at highway speed the car precipitously malfunctioned and car locked up and would allow me to maintain speed- nor accelerate. I was unable to maintain speed of the car therefore started to lose speed and decelerate. The vehicles behind me could not tell that i was suddenly losing speed and i was almost involving a near fatal collision again. I had been driving on the highway for about 5 -10 minutes prior to this precipitously occurring. This was the same situation i experienced with a brand new mini cooper 2019 model a week earlier. The car was towed to the dealership and they noted that the crank shaft speed pulse generator sensor was no good and had malfunctioned. As this is a repeat issue and very serious as it almost caused 2 near fatal incidents, i am concerned that the maker of the vehicle is not doing their due diligence to ensure that other 2019 models are safe. I have been told other mini models were has experienced same malfunction. This incident and the other both occurred at highway speed which creates a very dangerous set up after the vehicles had been driven for a few miles on the highway and in wet conditions.
I got the air bad warning a few months ago while driving the signal with a lil airbag on my dash board. I called the dealer took it in and the dealer said my car was out of warranty. They didn't check to see if this issue was a recall they just cared about fixing it if i paid them. Since then i get the airbag warning every time the car is on.
Driver's side seat belt locking mechanism jams, preventing the driver from fastening the seat belt and operating the vehicle in a safe manner.
Rear brake lights.. It comes with 3 small brake lights... Two on bumper & one on top scoop, all relatively small. The main two are much bigger but are only used for driving lights & turn signal. ? It makes no sense?. This needs to be corrected, right?
Premature clutch failure 34,500 miles, while the dealer repaired the problem under warranty they informed me about the clutch being too small to downshift the car to slow down. I didn't spend northwards of 40k on a sports car only to be told all slowing down should be done with the braking system. You buy a stick shift car to be able to do these things normally. To be told by the dealers service representative the clutch is inadequate for this normal driving practice was quite a surprise had the salesperson told me this i would not have purchased the vehicle. I guess the real surprise will be when it goes out again and i have to pay to have a design flaw repaired at my own expense. This clutch problem seems to be prevalent in the all wheel drive version where apparently the friction coefficient of 4 wheels to the pavement exceeds that of the clutch.
