During a rain shower, drove at about 15mph into roughly 4" of water gathered on the shoulder of an access road adjacent to the highway and the engine stalled. Would not restart. Puddle of water was not high enough to breach the cabin - running boards were still above water and the curb adjacent to the street was not submerged. Car would not start and transmission locked up. Bmw roadside assistance contacted and advised not to start; tow truck had difficulty loading onto the flatbed because the electrical system had malfunctioned in the electric convertible top and was overriding the ability to put the car into neutral.
Tl* the contact owned 2016 mini cooper s. Contact stated that while his wife was driving at 40 mph, without warning an smoke appeared on the front passenger side under the hood. The contact stated his wife pulled to the side of the road and exited the vehicle before the whole vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the flames and a fire department report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage lot and deemed a totaled lost. The manufacturer was contacted and sent a field inspector whom could not determine the cause of the failure. The dealer motor city mini (29929 telegraph rd. Southfield, mi 48034) was contacted and informed the contact that fire was not covered under the warranty. The dealer did not inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximant 41,000.
When sitting in drivers seat ( i am 5ft. 1 in tall) and the convertible top is open, i can not see through the rear view mira because the convertible top folded is blocking my vision. My seat is at highest position. Just as point of reference i had a 2012 mini conv. And this was not a problem. Because of this i had to take the car back to the dealer and get another vehicle which cost me in excess of $5000 as my 3 day old car was considered used with 91 miles on it. My husband who is 5'9" tall tried it and had some visibility but very limited. This is a dangerous thing and should have been corrected by mini. Either the mechanism or the fabric used has to be changed to allow the top to retract out of sight. This does not matter if you are moving or standing still, and could cause the drive to easily have an accident because they can't see what is behind them.
The horn no longer works unless you press it really hard and in center of steering wheel.

The cars transmission jumps out of 1st gear when turning onto a city street or accelerating from a stoplight on a city street. I was almost rear ended 3 times this week and it? S very dangerous. This has happened numerous times this past week and is a documented problem with the 2015 mini cooper s manual. My car only has 25,400 miles on it. The warranty just expired on 05/18/2019 (out by date) this month and the dealer refuses to repair the problem under warranty. If this is a documented problem, why doesn? T the dealer take the steps to fix it properly?

175 miles on 2019 mini s countryman. Traveling at highway speed. Drivetrain malfunction indicator came on, car shuddered repeatedly and decelerated rapidly to approx. 20 mph in 60 zone. Created instant hazard to myself as multiple lanes of faster moving traffic needed to be crossed to reach safety and no warning to tailing vehicle.
The horn contacts are corroded and the horn will not work consistently. It may take 5 or 6 times pushing the horn to get it to activate, or hold it down for a long time and try to move it around to scrape the corrosion off the contacts to get activation. It occurs whether driving or stationary. Many other owners have reported this problem on a mini cooper forum. My vehicle only has 20,000 miles on it.
I was hit head on last night and air bags did not deploy. I had slowed to approx 10 mph while vehicle that hit me was traveling approx 20-30mph. Vehicle the hit me was a mid 200's trail blazer. *bf *tr
I purchased this mini cooper s on march 16, 2016 and it had 47,282 miles on it. I also bought a limited 90 day warranty offered by buddy's auto sales of springfield, mo. I trailered the car to phoenix where my son was to attend a motorcycle mechanic school in october. On october 07, 2016 we unloaded it from the trailer and parked it at a hotel. The next morning my son (a certified mechanic) went outside to check on the car and the brake light was on. Assuming someone was in the car, he ran to it and found that it was full of smoke and smelled of melting wires/metal. He got a pair of pliers from the hotel and unhooked the battery before the car could burn itself to the ground. As soon as we could get a dealership on the phone, we had it towed there. They informed me that there was a large recall on bmw power steering pumps and they looked it up to see if mine would be covered. It wasn't. It cost $3,823. 22 to get the car back and they had the vehicle until october 14, 2016, causing me to miss my flight home. If this is a wide-spread problem, why wasn't my mini covered? After having the power steering pump replaced on my mini cooper s and finally receiving the car back after a week, i drove it from tempe to phoenix where i was staying and heard a loud pop noise as soon as i got it home. There was smoke coming out from under the hood and the car wouldn't steer. I called the dealership where i had just had it repaired and they said that i would once again have to pay the tow bill to get it back to them but that if they found that it was their fault for not fixing something, they would reimburse me for the tow bill. After receiving the car for the second time, they claimed that the power steering hose was an unrelated problem to the power steering pump. I had to pay the tow bill as well as the repair bill.
Seat belt on driver side of the convertible was rolling up on one side and not providing adequate safe restraint. Was told by dealership that i was pulling the seat belt out with my left hand and sitting too close and that i should be pulling the seat belt out with my right hand. Owners manual did not provide this information. Contact with bmw of north america did not resolve issue. When i told the dealership service person that this was a design flaw if you can only use one hand to pull the seat belt and sit a certain way, she agreed that it was. I told bmw the same when i spoke to them today and told them i was filing a formal complaint with the nhtsa about the seat belt design.
Vehicle has been serviced four times, since purchased in may 2015 for burns to light bulb and socket melting into housing. Malfunctioning engine light appears while driving car on highways and streets. Taillight is on the left side, not far from gas tank. Car is unsafe due to overheating, burns and melting of taillight components and proximity to gas tank. *tr
When i took my car in for its first service i was told that the entire engine needed to be replaced due to a recall. I have not been able to locate any such recall. I have found this entire experience to be very unusual.
