Our 2016 mini cooper jcw was involved in an accident, where it failed to stop, and, in fact seemed to accelerate. A previous version we owned did the same thing, several years ago. A few days after this accident, an article appeared in the national media, describing a similar accident in new york. In that instance, the car struck was being driven by the actor [xxx] , which was why it received so much national attention. Our vehicle suffered $7000 in damage. No air bag deployed, and it was moving at less than 5 miles an hour. We have had multiple incidents of feet getting caught in the pedals (we have a manual transmission). Having had two similar accidents, i have concluded there is either a problem with the foot pedal locations, or a propensity for uncommanded acceleration. Because so few of these mini jcw performance models are sold, it? S possible that the database is insufficient to cause notice. I am over 70, but regularly drive a lamborghini (my third). My reflexes are good, and i am an experienced driver of specialized vehicles. I know how to stop a car at 5 mph, and in this case, i was aware of the potential problem. We keep this car at our florida home, and it is only driven a few thousand miles a year. The coincidence of these events is compelling. I encourage you look into it. 2015 MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS
Parts: ENGINE
  • Date of Incident: Apr-23, 2016
  • Date complaint filed: 22:51 May-02, 2016

This car engine inconsistently dies, usually in first or second gear, sometimes when the car is stopped (e. G. At a red light) and sometimes when it is slowing down (e. G. Pulling into a parking lot), or accelerating (e. G. Taking off from a red light or pulling out of a parking lot). It has been to the dealer's 3 times and they cannot find the problem--the car has less than 4,000 miles and started doing this soon after purchased. I have the documentation from the 3 trips to the service dept. But am not sending them at this time. Has happened with 3 different people driving the car. Has happened at least 25 times. (last time listed below). Speed varies but usually less than 30 mph--never on the highway so far. I have documented dates, mileage, and where it happened starting in november--car was purchased in august, 2015.
