Car shifted into neutral at highway speeds and would not go back into drive on 3 separate occasions over the past 6 days. Car is an ev and there was no warning and the battery soc was 50% or more on all occasions. Can can be shifted from neutral to park only, not drive or reverse. Very unsafe to have to cruise to a stop on busy highways without much or any shoulder depending on where the car stops with snow banks. Had to have car towed. The incidents happened separately on 1/27, 1/28, and 2/2 all on the highway at ~60mph. I will upload some pictures of the dtc codes and battery stats for the vehicle. After the incident on 1/27, i replaced my 12v battery with a new one (having done some searching for possible cause), but the issue happened again on 1/28 and 2/2 after the 12v replacement.

2015 Nissan Rogue
  • Date of Incident: Jan-25, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Feb-02, 2023
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

Nissan rouge select transmission went in the span of 24 hours. One morning it wouldn’t accelerate past 20 mph, and the next morning it wouldn’t accelerate at all. There were no check engine lights or any other indication that there was a problem before it died, or even after it died. I was told that this model of nissan did not come standard with a transmission cooling unit as, “nissan didn’t think they were necessary on a few models of the rouge, including this one. ” because of this, i needed to get my car towed to middletown nissan, where i was told the cost of repairs, tax and labor would cost approximately $4000, and $5000 with the addition of a cooling unit. The day repairs were to be completed, i got a call as i was on my way to the dealership that there was an error in calculation of labor costs, and nissan wanted to charge me $8700. They ‘lowered the price’ to $6300, and at this point i had been without a car for a week and it was impacting my wife and my ability to work, and my preschool age daughter to go to school(of which i also pay for)

2014 Nissan Altima
  • Date of Incident: Feb-01, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Feb-02, 2023
  • Failed components: SUSPENSION

I was merging on to I-94 from Grand Avenue in Gurnee, IL. I felt the rear end of my car hop. One merged, I noticed my steering was at 2:00, vs straight. After exiting expressway and hitting bumps in the road, I noticed my car "floated". Parked the vehicle and went to work. Left early to avoid traffic. Made it 1/4 mile and the car had a horrible hop to it. Parked the car to investigate. The rear control arm was completely rusted through and broken. I called the Nissan Dealership after reading there is a campaign to replace these under "warranty". Apparently this is an issue with 2013-2018 Altimas in areas where is salt used to help clear roadways in the winter. The dealership has my vehicle now and called to tell me the other one was bad as well. I could have seriously hurt or killed others or myself. This should be a recall and not an extended warranty. I received notification about the hood latch recall, nothing about a campaign regarding the rear control arm.

2020 Nissan Murano
  • Date of Incident: Jan-28, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Feb-02, 2023
  • Failed components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

While driving down interstate the car's automatic collision breaking system activated and brought the car to an immediate stop. While breaking the information screen in the steering wheel area flashed red with an explanation point symbol but as soon as the breaking was done it went away and no other lights appeared on the dash indicating an issue. There was nothing that should have triggered the automatic collision braking system to have engaged. Had someone been directly behind me this could have easily caused an accident by them slamming into the back of my car as nothing would have caused them to expect sudden breaking by me. The unexpected sudden breaking happened twice within a 10 minute window while driving on interstate. I have driven it minimally since so i could have it looked at by the dealer to review the issue as it is under warranty and i felt it unsafe to drive. The car has been inspected by a nissan dealer and they are unable to reproduce the issue and are not taking any repair action at this time.

The front passenger sought medical attention and had surgery to have a small portion of her bowel removed. A police report was filed. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss.
