While i was driving on a city street at about 40mph, the abs light came on and the brakes became completely unresponsive. Pushing on the break pedal would not slow the car down. After being able to come to a stop using the emergency brake i notices that the brake would keep rumble but still unable to keep the car at a stand still. This is the second this happens in about 8 weeks. This time i am reporting it. The car has 37,000 miles.
I had initiated a claim sometime last year about the b pillar plastic door trim possibly being damaged from the sun's reflection. Nissan usa referred me to the local dealership since they cannot help me. They said that it's not a defect and we would have to pay for any damages that needed to be repaired (about $1000). I don't agree with this as it's not an uncommon issue for door trims to melt just like if the heat from a heat gun was applied to it. There are quite a few photos online and not just nissan. I have no control over where the sun reflects or the buildings that reflect the sun's rays. I don't believe that i should be held liable for this, the vehicle was used as intended, and there are no instructions on the manual regarding this. The car is melting from the sun.
The rear hatchback window shattered when the hatch was closed with normal force and without any objects obstructing closure or touching the window. The vehicle was stationary in a driveway at the time.
I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO MY CHILDREN'S DAYCARE A FEW MILES FROM MY HOME, PARKED, AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR TO LEAVE, I HEARD A STRANGE BUZZING TYPE SOUND AT STARTUP, AND THEN GOT A BUNCH OF WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES TO TRY TO GET THE WARNINGS TO CLEAR. I NOTICED THE BUZZING SOUND WAS COMING FROM WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. I TRIED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO NEUTRAL BUT IT WOULDN?T. THEN I TRIED PUTTING IT IN DRIVE, AND IT DID GO INTO DRIVE, BUT STARTED DRIFTING BACKWARDS BECAUSE I WAS PARKED ON A SLOPE. THIS IS THE SCARY PART THAT COULD HAVE INJURED SOMEONE. I WAS IN A DAYCARE PARKING LOT AND SOMEONE COULD HAVE WALKED BEHIND MY CAR AT THE TIME IT DRIFTED BACK. THANKFULLY THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. I MASHED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR, AND IT DID STOP BUT REQUIRED MORE BRAKE TRAVEL AND MADE SOME GRINDING NOISES, LIKE THE ABS WAS OPERATING. AFTER I REALIZED I HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND SOME PEOPLE ON FORUMS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. I TRIED DISCONNECTING THE 12V BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES, A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT COULDN?T GET THE BRAKE ALARMS TO GO AWAY. SO I GOT IT TOWED TO MY DEALER. DEALER WAS BUSY AND DIDN?T GET TO LOOK AT THE CAR FOR TWO-THREE DAYS. THEY SAID THAT WHEN THEY TURNED ON THE CAR THEY DIDN?T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. I ASKED THEM IF THEY SAW ANY CODES, AND THEY CHECKED AND THEY FOUND CODES FOR THE CAN COMMUNICATION AND INTELLIGENT BRAKE SYSTEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED THIS A "FLUKE" AND SAID THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, I AM READING THAT THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YEAR Leaf. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR, ESPECIALLY NOT WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT. WHAT IF THE "FLUKE" COMES BACK WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND CAN'T SAFELY STOP IN TIME?
Car was driven about 3. 5 miles to the store and parked. After shopping, when the car was started the abs braking system had completely failed with no resistance to pressure on the brake pedal. A clicking sound was heard and pulsing was felt with no braking provided. Later in the day, the car was started again and the brakes appeared to work normally. Outside temperature at the time of the incident was between 0 & 10 degrees f.
When applying the brakes while moving in any forward direction and the vehicle rolls over a pothole (or similar feature) the brakes instantly become soft. The vehicle doesn't slow at the anticipated rate and additional pressure needs to be applied to the brake pedal to slow or not increase speed.
"automatic braking system failed to engage" on a offramp lane from freeway 5 southbound to crown valley parkway off ramp while traveling approximately 25mph i rear ended a vehicle that was at dead stop and that vehicle rear ended a second vehicle. California highway patrol was called and report was documented which is attached. This happened on december 22,2020 at about 7pm, dark clear evening in the city of mission viejo. It was on the straight freeway lane leading to the offramp with other lanes on the freeway moving freely. Upon discussion with nissan investigation (claim no. 42994813) 615 725 7590, they summarized 10 page disclaimer from owners manual stating that braking system is not 100%. Its understandable if the vehicle was old but this is a new vehicle with what is advertised as a automatic braking system and that system did not work. I manually braked to a crash.
While driving on the highway my vehicle ran over a spare trailer tire that had fallen off another vehicle. my vehicle almost cleared it but the tire just barely lodged underneath in the undercarriage, just past the front tires. even though there was no front collision or sudden reduction in speed; the airbags deployed rendering the vehicle undriveable. this is a flaw and safety issue. while the vehicle did sustain some damage to the undercarriage, there was no need for airbag deployment and doing so exacerbated an already hazardous situation. the airbag startled me, obstructed my view, and could easily have caused me to collide with another vehicle at highway speeds. I believe this is a design flaw and serious safety hazard. i reported it to nissan usa. i was contacted by nissan incident investigations and they have disavowed any responsibility for the incident and claim that the systems are working as intended. I am a firefighter and have dealt with many car wrecks. i know when an airbag is supposed to deploy and it is clear to me that the system in the vehicle is not operating as it should and is presenting a safety hazard. further, both the tow truck driver and the attendant at the repair shop expressed confusion as to why the airbag deployed. The airbag replacement alone will cost nearly $3,000 and, since the parts are on backorder, will take nearly a month.
I was driving alone at 4:20pm at about 30 mph, with no other cars or pedestrians around when the brakes suddenly activated, and the accelerator went to idle. The braking lasted about one second and did not stop the car completely. This occurred on a city street. These events have been happening several times a month.
Was driving at approx. 30 mph alone on a local highway with no traffic around, no pedestrians or obstructions in the road, when the accelerator disengaged and the brakes came on. The braking only lasted about one to two seconds and did not stop the car. A triangular warning sign appeared on the dash during the braking, and went off when the brakes released. I believe the problem is a malfunction of the forward collision warning system.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 Nissan Leaf. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS A THUMPING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER HARBOR NISSAN LOCATED AT 4336 TAMIAMI TRAIL, PORT CHARLOTTE, FL 33980 WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVESHAFT AND CV JOINT WAS FAULTY AND THE AXLE NUT NEEDED TO BE RETORQUED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE REPAIR FAILED TO ADEQUATELY ADDRESS THE SAFETY ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 720.
Primary brakes malfunction while coming to a stop on city street. Brake warning dash light illuminated. Brake peddle depressed to floor with very diminished effect. Loud clicking nose coming from under hood when brake peddle is depressed. Emergency brake required to hold car stopped when shifting into forward or reverse.
THE Nissan Leaf WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A 35 MPH ROAD IN A HILLY AREA. WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON A DOWNHILL CURVE COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT ENGAGE WITH NORMAL PRESSURE. THE DRIVER THEN PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDDLE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO SLOWLY STOP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO 10 FEET PAST A RED LIGHT INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE DRIVER DROVE OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND TESTED THE BRAKES AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THE DRIVERS SPOUSE ARRIVED TO TEST THE VEHICLE AND VERIFIED THE SAME RESULTS. THE ONLY WAY HOME WAS A VERY STEEP DOWN HILL SO TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND BRING IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO VERIFIED THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGING WHEN HE LOADED THE VEHICLE ON THE FLATBED. WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND UNLOADED FROM THE TOW TRUCK THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP TESTED THE VEHICLE AND VERIFIED THE BRAKES PASSED INSPECTION. FEELING UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE THE OWNER TRIED TO CONVINCE THE DEALERSHIP TO TEST MORE. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. THE OWNERS REPORTED TO NISSAN OF AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE. NISSAN OF AMERICA SAID THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF ISSUE AND THAT IF THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP AND CORPORATE CAN NOT FIX THE CAR AND DO NOT WANT TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE OWNERS HOUSE WHERE IT NOW SITS UNUSED.
Front driver side door started sagging again, same issue as previously reported under # 11308649. Taken to the dealer today, they adjusted the "door striker". As reporter previously, there maybe a structural issue with the door striker being too fragile or too thin.
HELLO! I HAVE MY 2017 Nissan Leaf SV WITH 30KWH BATTERY IN AT NISSAN OF TROY, MAINLY DUE TO TWO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A 2017 NISSAN LEAF WITH 30KWH BATTE HELLO! I HAVE MY 2017 NISSAN LEAF SV WITH 30KWH BATTERY IN AT NISSAN OF TROY, MAINLY DUE TO TWO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A 2017 NISSAN LEAF WITH 30KWH BATTERY WITH A DC-FC FAST CHARGE PLUG THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO CHARGE THE BATTERY ROUGHLY 15X FASTER THAN 6.6K LEVEL2/3 CHARGERS. THE KEY TWO PROBLEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS: A. DCFC FAILS TO CHARGE ON 2017 NISSAN LEAF AND CAUSES J1772 TO BE UNABLE TO CHARGE IT ANYMORE SUBSEQUENTLY GETTING A CHARGE IN A PINCH LEADS TO REALLY NEEDING A TOW TRUCK!! B. THE RANGE ON THE BATTERY DROPS DRASTICALLY ON A REGULAR DAY TO DAY DRIVE... THE OTHER DAY I LEFT FOR A 4.5MILE TRIP WITH 17MILES ON GOM AND BY TIME I DROVE 2 MILES RANGE WENT DOWN TO 11MILES. BEFORE I WAS 1/2 WAY LOW BATTERY INDICATOR WENT OFF AND ~1.5MILES TO HOME VERY LOW BATTERY KICKS IN. - I BELIEVE THE CAR GOM ALWAYS OVER ESTIMATES THE RANGE TO WHAT I'M ABLE TO DRIVE. IT CAN NEVER DRIVE UP TO THE SUGGESTED RANGE SO I MUST HAVE EITHER A BAD BATTERY OR A FAULTY BATTERY MANAGEMENT MODULE OF SOME SORTS ???
Electronic brake assist failed while driving in traffic, october 9th, 2020. Braking distance was extended and the brake pedal depressed much farther than normal, causing driver to stop car with emergency brake. Emergency lights illuminated on the dash. Errors codes indicate faults with the electronic driven intelligent brake control unit, the subject of safety campaign 16v119000. Subsequent nissan recall, which applied 3nf9b firmware to the edib, had been applied 5/13/16. Failures re-occurred in cold weather in november 8th, 2020. Problem is sporadic and dealer cannot reproduce. However, a video of the failure was recorded and has been shown to them. Replacement part carries yet a new firmware, 4np3e. This firmware should be made available under the safety campaign if it more fully addresses the problem with the brakes.
When using android auto in the infotainment, one cannot see the climate (hvac) status, so it creates a dangerous distraction to adjust the heating/air conditioning, fan speed, defrost, etc. When in normal menus and an adjustment is made to the climate settings, it is displayed on the top of the screen in a banner. This is the only place where this information is visible, and generally works fine. However, when using android auto, this banner does not activate and is not visible. As a result, changing the climate settings involves multiple touchscreen interactions in addition to using the physical controls. This could and should be updated via a software update. I will also make a youtube video showing the problem for further illustration.
Freezing brakes. Brakes would not work when applied in motion.
THE REVERSE CAMERA SYSTEM THAT ACTIVATES WHEN THE CAR IS IN REVERSE IS SO BLURRY THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DISTINGUISH OBJECTS. YOU CAN'T TELL IF THAT'S A BOX IN THE DRIVEWAY BEHIND YOUR CAR OR A BABY SEAT WITH A BABY IN IT. FOR TEST PURPOSES A SIGN WITH 3-INCH LETTERS PLACED 48 INCHES FROM THE CAMERA IS COMPLETELY ILLEGIBLE ON SCREEN. NISSAN REPORTS THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION FOR THE 2020 Leaf REAR CAMERA. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE OF THE REAR CAMERA SCREEN ALONG WITH A PICTURE OF THE EXACT SAME SCENE TAKEN WITH A CELL PHONE. THE QUALITY DIFFERENCE IS QUITE STRIKING, AND ILLUSTRATES HOW POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS THE 2020 LEAF REAR CAMERA COULD BE FOR DRIVERS.
A sudden loss of propulsion with out an audible warning. The vehicle operates at creep speed. I notice it because the can not accelerate. A moment of confusion sets in in trying to figure out what is going on. A tell tale light of a turtle comes on. I have to work my way through traffic to pull on the side of the road. This is a concern on a busy highway. The tell tale light goes away after cycling the power by turning the car off and starting it all over. It gives me the impression that the trouble went away. This issue occurred once a year. I didn't think much of it. It is now happening once a week in the past two months. Someone can get hurt in the worst case scenario. I believe the warning light should remain on until the issue is resolved. I noticed the issue happens when the climate is hot and i am driving with the ac on. The battery temperature is in the safe zone. Nissan didn't take it seriously. I took a picture of it.
