  • Date of Incident: Feb-01, 2022
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: AIR BAGS

For the last 2 yrs. Our airbag light comes on and off saying we don't have air bags, some days it works and others it doesn't. I took the car into a subaru dealership, and they said i had to replace the passenger seat at a cost of $1,200. 00. I just saw that there is a recall about this and would like to get them to fix this issue at no cost. Subaru is supposed to be the safest car on the road, we'll i'm not feeling safe now.

2018 Subaru WRX
  • Date of Incident: Mar-12, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

Engine rod knock at 32,000 miles due to bearing failure causing loss of control of vehicle and sudden loss of power and control. Car was logged to be traveling at 35 mph with normal acceleration at time of failure. Carter subaru confirmed bearing failure, and fits with the pattern confirmed in 2012-2017 wrx sti engine failure class action settlement, as part in 2018 remains unchanged from 2017 according to mechanics. Head mechanic at dealership confirmed that only car modification (intake) would not cause catastrophic loss of oil leading to bearing failure, and thus it is likely due to engine design that leads to poor oil circulation as a known issue in this ej25 engine type. Engine components have been inspected by carter subaru, and have been made available to subaru of america, along with images, videos, pictures, receipts, logs, records, computer/ecu data, receipts, tool purchases, and other maintenance and service logs for the car (including prior to ownership). Dealership acknowledges that the car maintenance exceeded the manufacturer recommendation, yet engine still failed even with oil changes done at 3,000 mile intervals... While manual states much higher interval to follow. Engine still failed at increased oil change levels. Problem appeared once engine started knocking, which means the engine has already suffered irreversible engine failure and needs to be replaced, according to subaru. Subaru of america assigned a customer advocate but has been incommunicado for the duration of the investigation and refuses to answer or even acknowledge that a claim has been opened, as they constantly cite erroneous interactions with the vehicle owner.

2024 Subaru OUTBACK
  • Date of Incident: Oct-11, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING, POWER TRAIN, and EXTERIOR LIGHTING

This vehicle has severe cvt problems. It shifts back and forth with a clunk on level roads at a steady speed. I have a 2015 murano with over 80,000 miles that does not display this type of behavior. I am driving a loaner which is a 2023 subaru with the same engine and transmission as mine and it has none of my safety problems. The additional safety problems are: very poor resolution on backup camera and incorrect guidance lines; we are a hands free state and my voice command will not properly make calls; built in nav is horrible and android auto doesn't work; adaptive headlights don't work; lane centering hugs the left side of the lane to a degree that i have to pull to the right if a vehicle is passing me; auto rear braking does not work properly. The rest of the items are more of a nuisance than safety oriented. I have owned over a dozen subarus without having any issues.

2019 Subaru Legacy

Catalytic converter plugged at 56,000 miles. Cause the catalytic converter to get red hot and melt o2 sensors. This caused the cel to eliminate and make the safety features turn off. I plugged an obd2 reader in to the car and diagnosed the problem. I had to replace the entire catalytic converter assembly under the as well as all of the o2 sensors.

Hello, my subaru crosstrek 2018 has been brought to subaru service departments in both ca and ma for the same issue. I have brought in my car 3-4 times for recurrent problems where the battery in the car dies. The battery has been replaced multiple times and i have brought it to subaru service departments both in massachusetts and california, all of whom tell me that the battery needs to be replaced, over and over again. I called and filed a report with subaru of america who directed me to a third party representative who deals with claims regarding subarus and their recurrent battery issues and was informed that my subaru is not eligible for reimbursement for recurrent issues with batterys, nor is it a model that is eligible for an extended warranty given the battery issues. This is a huge safety issue for me. I have found myself in empty parking garages at night with a dead battery where i have had to stay locked in my car while i call a tow/aaa service to come and jump my car. I have missed countless days of work due to this issue. I have been late to pick up my child from daycare. I have spent thousands of dollars missing work, getting ubers while my car is in the shop, using rental cars, calling tow companies while this issue has been ongoing for two years. In addition, i have spent hundreds of dollars on portable battery chargers so that i do not get stranded with a battery-less car. I have raised this issue to the subaru service departments multiple times, as well as subaru of america with no solution.

2020 Subaru ASCENT
  • Date of Incident: Feb-21, 2024

The contact is unsure if any lights was illuminated. The contact pulled over and left the vehicle for a couple of hours. Upon return, the contact stated the vehicle drove normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they reprogrammed an unknown system. However, the failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a diagnostic was performed and the dealer was unable to duplicated the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated if the failure could not be duplicated the vehicle could not be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

2014 Subaru Legacy

  • Failed components: AIR BAGS

My vehicle is suffering of the exact same issue described in recall wra-24. However, this recall only covers the model years 2020 to 2022, mine is 2014 with approximately 106,000 miles. Since the last week of december, my vehicle has been to the fort wayne, in subaru dealership approximately 9 time for the same issue. It has cost me over $2,500 plus the fuel used for all this trips (i live over 40 miles away from the dealership). The problem is still not 100 percent fixed after they changed the seat cushion, the airbag module, the seat belt buckle sensor, and i don't know what else. The last time (a couple of weeks ago) that the car was at the dealership, they had the car for over 2 weeks. The next morning, the car did the same thing again where the red airbag warning light turns on and the passenger airbag shuts off with a passenger sitting on the seat. I've taken videos of the issue to show the dealership as they seemed doubtful of what i was explaining to them. The dealer claims they have been in contact with subaru and they don't know what else to do. They started providing me with a loaner free of charge after the 4th visit. In summary, same issue as wra-24, over $2,500 so far, and still not resolved.

2022 Subaru Legacy
  • Date of Incident: Mar-20, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Mar-27, 2024
  • Failed components: VISIBILITY/WIPER

In 2022, a piece of small gravel fell off the back of a dump truck, bounced off the road, and struck the windshield of my 2022 Subaru Legacy. Based on past experience with other vehicles, this should have resulted in a round or star-shaped crack to the glass but this caused cracks that continue to grow and branch off. In 2024, I replaced the windshield at Flow Subaru in Charlottesville, VA at a cost of over $1000 and within 3-4 weeks there was a linear crack halfway across the windshield directly in front of the driver's seat, which somewhat interferes with the driver's view. Online research suggests this is a known problem with Subaru cars with their "Eyesight" system. Supposedly, Subaru has settled class-action lawsuits related to their windshields cracking. This is a safety hazard from the standpoint of driver's vision and windshield integrity. These windshields are fragile and inherently defective.
