The wireless car play phone connection randomly drops and is a known issue with subaru. This a potential safety issue due to dropping calls mid calls that are hands free and encourage the driver to grab the mobile phone change it from air play to phone and then back to air play to fix it. Or take it off car option requiring the drivers attention to be diverted. Also this issue drops the navigation embedded into the radio unit on the car which could again create a safety issue distracting drivers and causing accidents. This needs to be addressed immediately and subaru has no fix available.

2020 Subaru Outback
  • Date of Incident: Apr-14, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-15, 2024
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

Thermostat Replacement: THERMO CONTROL VALVE IS NOT OPERATING. FLUID IS LEAKING FROM ASSEMBLY. The thermostat is a valve that keeps coolant circulating in the engine until it reaches normal running temperature. When this happens, the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow to the radiator. There were no warnings before this occurred and my car could have overheated. After talking to multiple Subaru Outback owners, this issue seems to be predominant and am surprised it is not covered by Subaru or that the NTSHA has been warned of this issue.

2019 Subaru ASCENT
  • Date of Incident: Apr-14, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-14, 2024
  • Failed components: LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION

Upon starting the vehicle, the driver side mirror started smoking. Secured the vehicle and disconnected the battery. Removed the mirror assembly and notice the electrical wires powering the blind spot indicator of the mirror assembly was burned and melted. Picture of the damage was taken prior to removing the mirror assembly from the vehicle.

2019 Subaru Outback

  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The battery has a substantial drain on it when the car is not in use. The car is not reliable to get from one place to another, especially if it sits for 24+ hours. The danger comes in that we may be left stranded in a remote area where no cell service is available. We often go to remote areas to camp. The vehicle and battery have been inspected by the dealership and they recommended a larger battery due to a settlement in a class action lawsuit. However, this does not fix the battery drain. Another class action suit is in the process to address this situation. No symptoms or warnings for when the battery dies. Everything operates just fine until it does not. Absolutely unpredictable.

2018 Subaru Forester
  • Date of Incident: Nov-01, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-14, 2024
  • Failed components: AIR BAGS

Airbag on passenger side stopped working last november. Subaru says it’s the switch in the seat and the seat needs replacing at a cost of approximately $1300. This should be part of the recall and be paid for by subaru.

2019 Subaru Forester

The check engine light went on and the diagnostic code read was P26A3, Engine Coolant Bypass Valve is failing in my 2019 Forester, which only has 46,000 miles on it. Subaru was aware that this part was defective in the 2019-2021 models, because in Feb of 2022 the part was replaced and a service bulletin 09-80-21 was issued with instruction for replacing the part, but did not issue a recall, despite this problem causing the advanced safety features to stop working and directly affecting the proper functioning of the engine. My car is just out of warranty, and the quote to have my mechanic replace the part is almost $1200 which I am unable to afford and do not feel I should have to pay for. Subaru should be help to account for this issue.

2022 Subaru Forester

I have a 2022 subaru forrester touring vehicle purchased new. The front passenger seat airbag supplemental restraint system (srs) consisting of the front, knee, curtain and side airbags is not enabled (indicator light) while my wife is sitting in it. My wife weighs 88 lbs. Which should be enough to enable the srs. I have brought the issue to 2 different subaru dealerships several times and subaru of americas on 2 different occasions also contacting subaru japan corporate. Larger individuals cause the srs to be enabled (indicator light). The driver side srs is continuously on. From the dealerships i have received the following responses: •the car is new and may work once seat is broken in •it is a federal crime to change the srs •my wife did not weigh enough •weight requirement was either 100 lbs or 34 kilos, not sure •weight minimums not stated anywhere but best guesses •tested limit is 100 lbs. , not specification just test limit i contacted subaru of america and asked them the weight limit but they could not provide one and was told they would make contact with japan corporate office and inquire there. I was told corporate could not provide an answer and could only state that the srs was tested at 100 lbs. It was not a limit but only a test specification. While in the passenger seat the srs is off and my wife stands a higher than average chance of major injuries occurring without the front, knee, curtain and side airbags deploying during an accident. I consider this a major safety issue and causes her un-needed stress every time we are traveling. We have a 2004, 2nd vehicle and the passenger airbag system is on continuously. I do not understand why a 2022 vehicle can’t offer the same protection. I believe this safety issue requires immediate attention.

Possible transmission issue. The transmission was replaced in february by university subaru in columbia, missouri. I have made a second appointment as the vehicle is still having the same issue shifting gears or going uphill. During a drive where there was a small incline of 10 degrees when the vehicle somewhat jumped or as if it skipped a beat. I had stopped in traffic and when the other cars started to move, i started to drive forward, and the car jumped. A gap in the acceleration. I am scheduled to take it in on the [xxx] of april. I will follow-up with you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6)
