WHILE DRIVING MY 2018 Tundra SR5 A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SAYING " SR5 AIRBAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. I KNOW IT WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BACK IN 2018 BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THAT RECALL
2018 Tundra INTEGRATED BRAKE CONTROLLER INTERMITTENTLY DISCONNECTS TRUCK FROM TRAILER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE. TRUCK BRAKES STOP ARE ACTIVATED BUT TRAILER IS DISCONNECTED. TIRES BEGIN TO SMOKE AND THERE IS A BURNING SMELL FROM THE TIRESNOT BEING ABLE TO SLOW OR STOP THE TRAILER. WE HAVE TAKEN 4 TRIPS AND IT HAPPENS ON ALL OF THEM. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DON?T HAVE A FIX. HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET. THIS FORM ONLY ALLOWS DATE ENTRY FOR ONE INCIDENT. BUT THE OCCURRENCE IS EVERY TRIP. IN FACT, WE DON?T HAVE BRAKES CONNECTION NOW AND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY DON?T HAVE A FIX.
Rear wheel bearings failed (but still functional) at 17000 miles. Wheels still rotate but there is a very loud droning noise at highway speeds with a slight squeal at lower speeds. Non-toyota mechanics have expressed concerns about driving the vehicle as bearings can fail altogether and seize the wheels.
Trailer brakes are no longer functioning lost gain output to trailer brakes. While riding down the highway for 2 hours the worrying came up saying - no trailer -came on, in the heads up display what i got home i used my fluke meter to determine that i had no output to the trailer brakes.
HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, AND DASHLIGHTS ALL GO OFF WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED HALF A DOZEN TIMES AT NIGHT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS IN THE 30'S, BOTH WHEN TURNING ON NARROW UNLIT RURAL ROADS, AND ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH WHEN CHANGING LANES. IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 1794 EDITION OF THE Tundra WITH THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS. YOU CAN FIND DOZENS OF OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING A VIDEO ON THE TUNDRA.COM WEBSITE. SEE LINK BELOW: HTTPS://WWW.TUNDRAS.COM/THREADS/AUTO-HEADLIGHTS-SHUT-OFF-WITH-TURN-SIGNAL.22968/ THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAS HAPPEND TO ME, AND IT IS SCARY DANGEROUS. I REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA BACK IN DECEMBER, AND TOYOTA HAS YET TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY HAVE NOT EVEN ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN. PLEASE GET THEM TO FIX THIS! EVEN MY TOYOTA SERVICE AGREEMENT WON'T FIX MY TUNDRA, BECAUSE THE DEALER CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM (IT'S NOT COLD, AND THEY CLOSE AT 6 WHEN IT'S NOT DARK!), AND THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR ANYTHING FROM TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGING THIS IS EVEN A PROBLEM. I'M BEGGING YOU, AT LEAST GET TOYOTA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBEM AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT!!
I received a safety recall notice for potential fuel pump failure from toyouta in jan. 2020. It has been 6 months and no solution has been announced and the local dealership is not assisting with resolution.
When operating the vehicle with the headlight stalk/selector on "auto", the dash lights and headlights suddenly go totally black or out. I'm able to turn the lights back on by moving the selector to "on". The problem is it happens and sometimes you don't know all of your lights are off when driving, especially in the city with other bright lights. This can be very dangerous. This has happened several times, so i no longer use the auto function on my stalk... Too dangerous.
I was driving down the road and got into the left turn lane and when i applied the breaks the pedal seemed extremely lose and the truck was unable to stop. Luckily there was no traffic and i was able to go up and make the turn extremely slowly. When i got home i noticed that the truck was leaking break fluid. *tr

HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL IS USED AND THE HEADLIGHTS SWITCH IS IN AUTO MORE. DEALERSHIP CAN'T/WON'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO THEY WILL NOT TROUBLESHOOT FURTHER. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT A LOT OF PLATINUM AND 1794 EDITION Toyota TundraS ARE HAVING AND IT IS BEING IGNORED BY TOYOTA; HTTPS://WWW.TUNDRAS.COM/THREADS/AUTO-HEADLIGHTS-SHUT-OFF-WITH-TURN-SIGNAL.22968/ HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=2TZRPLQ9WP4 I'VE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. PICKUP ONLY HAS ABOUT 26K MILES ON IT. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ON A FREEWAY CLOVERLEAF IN THE RAIN AND LUCKILY THERE WERE STREET LIGHTS BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A MERGE. OTHER TIMES IT HAS BEEN SIGNALING TO TURN LEFT AND ENTERING THE CENTER TURN LANE ON MULTI-LANE ROADS. ALWAYS HAPPENS WHILE IT IS DARK OUTSIDE BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE IN AUTO WHICH MAKES IT MORE DANGEROUS.
I had 2 warning messages appear on the dash whilst driving: 1. Trailer brake error (if towing come to a safe stop with manual controls. ) contact dealer. 2. Pre collision system malfunction. Visit your dealer. The messages would not clear, drove 80 miles (freeway) or so home, truck was running fine, no issues on that side, the following day i had the vehicle towed (aaa) due to the pre collision system failure error... I get a message from the dealer to say i have fuel contamination and it'll cost $1400 plus tank refill, no mention of the error codes that were on! Apparently they said due to a mis-fire it throws those codes. I never felt and mis-firing while driving, we picked the truck up, filled half the tank added injector cleaner as a precaution...... There were no running problems, the error codes have gone.... A electrical anomaly....
The power locks for the front driver side and passenger side fail to work as expected. It is not consistent. When driving, it is supposed to lock automatically for safety but does not always lock (or unlock with the key fob when needing to get into the vehicle. Problem occurs when vehicle is stationary or moving.
The headlights and interior dash lights randomly turn off when using the blinker. I have owned this truck for 3 months now and it has happened on four different occasions. I cannot replicate this issue on my own.
I HAVE A 2017 Tundra AND WHEN I USE MY TURN SIGNAL IT MAKES MY HEADLIGHTS AND MY DASH LIGHTS GO OFF. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A STREAM THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF THESE TUNDRA'S ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. MY LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE INCLUDE A LINK TO A BLOG OF A TON OF OTHER OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOK INTO BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. HTTPS://WWW.TUNDRAS.COM/THREADS/AUTO-HEADLIGHTS-SHUT-OFF-WITH-TURN-SIGNAL.22968/
Wiper mechanical components under the hood broke loose from wiper transmission on drivers side during heavy rain/sleet/snow without warning. Passenger side still worked. Research indicates years 2015-2018 non lubricated, non repairable plastic components used in mechanical arms wear quickly. Rust because components not protected from weather as preciously built. Would have caused an accident on two lane road if not for passenger to guide to safe stop. This occurred on two lane highway driving highway speed with oncoming traffic. The complete wiper components need to be safety recalled and replaced with redesigned components on all toyota models affected. Wiper linkage - toyota (85150-0c070). Note: d not have exact date this occurred because left sitting until weather cleared.
Brake controller doesn't work as it designed.
Fuel tank is suppose to be 37 gallon. I have never put more than 28. 5 gallons in the tank. Even when i run the tank to the red light or my mileage indicator show 20 or less miles remaining. I have ask the dealership twice about this and they claim is a safety feature so you don't run out of fuel. I run the tank down to 10 miles left in tank and that is when i put 28. 5 gallons into it.
Connecting iphone 11 pro via bluetooth connection to radio causes the radio to completely reboot repeatedly and no longer works correctly. Detaching the bluetooth iphone returns the radio to normal function.
1ST OFF, I DRIVE A 2018 Tundra, MY INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER DOESNT APPLY BRAKES ON ANY TRAILER. IT THROWS AN ERROR MESSAGE AND WILL NOT WORK ON ANY TRAILER TYPE SETTINGS. HAD TRAILER CHECKED AND TESTED WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND TRAILER WORKS FINE. AND OF COURSE THE SAME EXACT ISSUE IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET SINCE 2016 AND UP, WITH NO FIX OR RESPONIBILITES TAKEN ON TOYOTAS PART. NOT HABING TRAILER BRAKES IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND BELIEVE THAT IF I PAID FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM I SHOULD HAVE TO BUY AN AFTERMARKET ONE JUST TO PULL MY TRAILERS SAFELY. 2ND ISSUE IS ONCE AGAIN ELECTRICAL, THE RADIO SHUT ON AND OFF EVERY 10 MINUTES OR SO...WILL NOT KEEP PRESETS SAVED ETC, TOLD TOYOTA AND THEY TRIED TO DOWNLOAD AND UPDATE AND SAID THE RADIO WOULDN'T EXCEPT THE DOWNLOAD. OF COURSE TRUCK IS OUT OF THE HORRIBLE OFFERED 30K MILE WARRANTY....SO I HAVE A 2018 TUNDRA 4X4 THAT HAS A BROKEN RADIO AND CAN'T EVEN PULL A TRAILER.....HARD TO WANNA MAKE A PAYMENT FOR THAT KINDA STUFF.
While driving at night, the activation of turn signal intermittently shuts off headlights. To re-energize headlights i have to manually switch the headlight switch from auto to on. This is very disturbing and dangerous while driving at night in rural areas. I am hoping someone addresses this with toyota, since if they can't replicate the issue they send you home!
