2020 Toyota Highlander
  • Date of Incident: Apr-22, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-22, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

On numerous occasions when applying the brakes on my vehicle there is a very noticeable "surge" when the vehicle slows to a near stop. It feels like there is a momentary loss of braking before the brakes re-engage. I have had the vehicle since new and it seems like the problem has become more noticeable over time. I have lost some confidence in the safety performance of the vehicle due to this dangerous issue.

  • Failed components: ENGINE

Warning display message “engine maintenance required visit your dealer”. After diagnostic at the dealer, coolant bypass valve failed and needed replacement with hefty, almost $900. 00 for parts and labor cost. Did research online, and it seems that more vehicles from the year 2020-2021 have experienced the same issue at 30-55k miles, my car is on 106k miles. Please do a recall for this issue and extend warranty to $200k miles. This car should not have this sort of issue!

2024 Toyota CAMRY
  • Date of Incident: Jan-16, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-21, 2024
  • Failed components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Only one incident almost caused an accident (there are a total of 5 different incidents that have happened however). I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic. The light was green in the direction i was trying to travel, and there was traffic coming but they were far enough away that i could have safely turned into the lane and moved with traffic if the car would have accelerated as was expected. Instead, the collision system deemed that there was an impending collision about to happen and would not allow me to accelerate. On coming traffic had to swerve to avoid hitting me, which thankfully there was no car in the second lane and they were safely able to avoid hitting me. The car was taken to the dealer and the form that is included was supplied to the dealer and subsequently to toyota engineers. After 4 weeks, the dealer returned the car because toyota engineers stated that the pcs system is acting as intended, and there is nothing wrong with the system
