Consumers have filed a total of 22 complaints related to Volvo VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL.
Was driving on highway. I let go of the gas pedal but the car still uncontrollably accelerates! Gas pedal is stuck. Hitting the breaks slows the car a bit. This went on for about 10 seconds and finally and luckily the "r-design" gas pedal cover fell off and i was able to stop accelerating. Intended to drive at 65 mph but the car itself accelerated to up to 80 mph momentarily.
TL* THE CONTACT OWN A 2017 Volvo XC60. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE, HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000.
Took car through the car wash. As i was slowly exiting to park into a spot to vacuum the car, i took my foot off the accelerator to drive up to the spot and started to put my foot on the brake when the car by itself revved up the acceleration jumped over the curve even as i was literally standing on the brake pedal to get the car to stop. Finally it did stop and thankfully there was no-one in front when this happened. I have called the dealer to check whether there has been any recalls and was told that none have been issued. I need to leave the car for them to inspect it which i plan to do. I did a little research on the internet and have found several complaints identical to mine. It was a very terrifying moment.
ON 2018-09-17, THE VEHICLE, A 2017 Volvo XC90 T8 HYBRID, REPORTED AN ERROR STATING "REDUCED PERFORMANCE" WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT GAUGE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIVE, WITHOUT THE HYBRID SYSTEM, ONLY WORKING ON THE GAS ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES AFTER THE ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED. THE NEXT DAY, 2018-09-18, THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, WITH THE SAME ERROR. AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE, THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY HALTED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, AND THEN LIMITED THE VEHICLE SPEED TO 17 MILES PER HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO IT'S ORIGIN, UNABLE TO EXCEED THE 17 MPH RESTRICTION, AND A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED IN. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALER FOR REPAIRS FOR 20 DAYS UNDERGOING REPAIRS. AS OF 2018-10-15, THE VEHICLE HAS BEGIN TO EXHIBIT A SIMILAR PROBLEM AS WAS ORIGINALLY REPORTED WITH 2 MONTHS OF VEHICLE PURCHASE IN SEPTEMBER, 2017, AND WHAT LED TO A MULTI-DAY REPAIR IN EARLY SEPTEMBER, 2018, PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT OCCURRING IN MID SEPTEMBER, 2018.
AS FAR BACK AS 2011, THERE WERE COMPLAINTS THAT VOLVOS EQUIPPED WITH THE CITY SAFETY SYSTEM WOULD SUDDENLY STOP OR SLOW DOWN FOR NO REASON. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO ME IN SEPTEMBER 2018. AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN TO CROSS AN INTERSECTION, MY Volvo S60 SUDDENLY CAME TO A HALT. THERE WAS NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS NOT SURE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AS I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND AS I WAS ABOUT TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, I NOTICED A WARNING ON THE DASH THAT THE CITY SAFETY HAD GONE OFF. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, MY VOLVO HAD DECIDED TO JUST STOP. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THERE WERE NO CARS APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE AND NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. HAD THERE BEEN, I COULD EASILY BEEN REAR ENDED OR SIDE SWIPED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I IMMEDIATELY CONTACT VOLVO AND SCHUMACHER VOLVO IN WEST PALM BEACHES. DESPITE PROVIDING A FULL EXPLANATION TO VOLVO, THEY REFUSED TO COMMENT OR ADDRESS THE MATTER. SCHUMACHER TOOK MY CAR AND DID A FULL INSPECTION, WHAT THEY FOUND WAS THAT THE CAMERA WAS DIRTY AND THEY HAD TO REMOVE AND CLEAN IT. NOW LET ME BE CLEAR, THE INSIDE OF MY WINDSHIELD IS SPOTLESS. THE OUTSIDE IS CLEAN. WHAT SCHUMACHER WAS REFERRING TO WAS THE CAMERA INSIDE THE UNIT THAT IS SEALED UP AGAINST THE TOP OF THE INSIDE WINDSHIELD. HOW COULD THIS CAMERA EVEN GET DIRTY? THIS IS THE REASON THE CITY SAFETY SYSTEM COULD HAVE CAUSED A FALSE POSITIVE. THE SYSTEM COULD INCORRECTLY ASSUME THERE WAS SOMETHING IN FRONT OF THE CAR AND PUT ON THE BRAKES. AFTER SCHUMACHER HAD CLEANED THE CAMERA, THEY STATED THE SYSTEM HAD BEEN TESTED AND WAS WORKING. I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER, RICHARD, IF WE COULD TEST MY CAR OUT WHEN I PICKED IT UP. UNBELIEVABLY, HIS RESPONSE WAS: ?VOLVO WON?T LET US TEST THE CITY SAFETY SYSTEM. IT IS FAR TOO DANGEROUS. WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING THAT WOULD PUT OUR CUSTOMERS IN DANGER OR DAMAGE A CUSTOMER?S VEHICLE?.
