On saturday, february 27, 2021, my husband (driver) and myself (passenger) were traveling on a saint louis highway and the rear passenger tire suddenly blew with no warning. There were no tire pressure or other warnings displayed on the dash of the truck. After pulling over, we discovered the entire side of the tire had completely blown (large holes over the entirety of the wall of the tire). It was not until a minute or two after the tire blew that the truck displayed a low tire pressure warning. After researching the tire maker's website, i discovered a recall for the exact tire however, the date as listed on the dot number was one week off. Our tires should have also been included in the recall as the description of the tire maker's defect was exactly as it occurred when our tire blew out.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 40 MPH, SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 10 TO 15 MPH TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ON MY 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe VIN: [XXX], EXPLODED RIPPING SEVERAL INCHES INTO THE SIDEWALL. HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF HITTING ANYTHING ANY TIME PRIOR TO THE TIRE EXPLODING AND NOTHING IN THE ROADWAY TO CAUSE SAID DAMAGE AT THE SIGHT OF THE EXPLOSION. TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION WAS ABOUT 55 DEGREES, NOT TO COLD OR TO HOT. HAD ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 3 OR 4 MILES ON THE TIRE PRIOR TO EXPLOSION, SO HEAT WAS MOST LIKELY NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM. TIRES WERE MADE BY HANKOOK TIRES, DYNAPRO HP2, SIZE 235/65/R17 104H, DOT 15M8R RT HO 2719, WITH ABOUT 29,000 MILES ON THE TIRES, VERY LITTLE WEAR AT ALL THE TIRE, WITH AIR PRESSURE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES TO ABOUT 35 TO 36 PSI WHICH WAS CHECKED ALMOST DAILY. OF ALL OF MY YEARS OF DRIVING HAVE HAD FLAT TIRES, BUT NEVER HAVE I HAD A TIRE JUST EXPLODE AS IN THIS INSTANCE WITH THIS TIRE. FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN CASE OTHERS MAY HAVE EXPERIENCED ANY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THESE TIRES. HANKOOK, DYNAPRO HP2, 235/65R17 104H, DOT 15M8R RT HO 2719. Bad hankook tires in which they will not repair or replace
My car skidded and failed to stop in acceptable distance/time in one inch of snow nearly causing me to collide with pedestrian in roadway. I was alarmed that this had happened and asked my mechanic to evaluate any braking defects. I was informed my tires were worn to 4/32nd and thus had little tread left to grip road surface. Mechanic noted all alignments and rotations were timely performed by owner of vehicle. I was shocked because vehicle is a 2018 honda crv with 18000 miles. These tires are rated for 50000 miles or 6 years. You can image my shock that tires wore out so fast and driving vehicle in security is now questionable. Tier manufacturer hankook is denying tire defectiveness even though honda dealership has proved hankook liable as no vehicle defect is discovered. I ask your organization to examine this tire for faulty manufacture and notify consumers that tire is unreliable.
