The contact owns a 2014 bmw 328d. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70–75 mph, the vehicle shuddered and then lost motive power. An unknown message was displayed. The contact pulled over to the shoulder, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the fuel injectors. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 21v586000 (fuel system, diesel); however, the vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,859.

There was a recall to replace egr cooler on this car. Dealer replaced with same defective design egr cooler. Bmw is not putting any effort in redesigning egr cooler and install that one in customer's cars. We are again risking our lives with new but defective design egr cooler.

(1) failed component: high pressure fuel pump (2) the vehicle complete shut down without warning leaving the driver stranded on the road. (3) the problem has been assessed and confirmed. (4) the vehicle has been inspected by a certified bmw mechanic. (5) there was no warning prior to failure. Description: while driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle shut down. I was told by a certified bmw mechanic that the high pressure fuel pump imploded, sending metal chards through the fuel injection line thereby disabling the vehicle entirely. I inquired as to whether or not a recall had been issued and bmw told me it had not been issued for my vehicle. I have since learned that a recall was issued due to this exact problem but my vin was not included in the recall, even though it is the year make and model associated with this very problem. The breakdown/disintegration of the equipment sending metal chard throughout the fuel line disabled and ruined the entire fuel system and its components with repairs costs estimated at $15,285. My car is within the ten year warranty but outside of the 120,000 miles. This is for the 328d xdrive wagon.

High pressure fuel pump failed while underway causing vehicle to immediately stall in traffic and lock in "park" making it unable to move. Mechanic (werner's european auto) confirmed diagnosis of catastrophic failure of the pump. Part is available for inspection. This part for the gasoline version of the 2014 328 series car is subject to a recall notice but for some reason the notice does not apply to the diesel version of this model. Repair cost is estimated at $11,000 to replace entire fuel system due to metal particles released when the pump broke

Subject: urgent complaint regarding potential safety hazard in 2014 bmw 328d fuel injector i am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my 2014 bmw 328d. On about august of 2023, while operating my vehicle, i experienced a sudden and alarming issue that poses a significant risk to both myself and other motorists. As i came to a routine stop, smoke began pouring out from under the hood of the vehicle, obscuring my vision through the windshield. Simultaneously, a strong odor of diesel permeated the interior of the passenger compartment. Concerned for my safety, i immediately investigated and discovered that the fuel injector area was drenched with diesel fuel. Upon further inspection by a qualified mechanic, it was determined that a crack had developed in the fuel injector, causing the leak. This defect not only poses a serious fire hazard but also exposes occupants to toxic diesel fumes, creating an immediate and grave risk to safety. My concern is exacerbated by the fact that this incident appears to be part of a larger pattern of failures in bmw diesel automobiles. I have conducted research and found numerous recalls related to faulty fuel injectors in various bmw models over different years. However, to my astonishment, the 2014 bmw 328d, including mine, has not been included in any such recall despite the clear evidence of a recurring issue with fuel injectors. Given the severity of the situation and the potential danger it poses to myself and others on the road, i urge the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to thoroughly investigate this matter. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to address this safety hazard, including the consideration of a recall for the affected vehicles. I kindly request a prompt response regarding the steps being taken to address this issue and ensure the safety of all bmw 328d owners.

I was driving on a busy two lane road. The vehicle instantly decelerated and made a large thump while driving at 55mph. The vehicle information system said there was a drivetrain malfunction, and all power was instantly gone. We were able to quickly pull off onto a small section off the road, but not in a safe manner, almost going into the ditch, in which i strongly was anticipating was going to be a total loss to the car as an accident and injury to myself and my wife. The vehicle then after waiting several hours was towed to a certified bmw shop to be looked at. The shop noted that it sounded like it was a high pressure fuel pump failure that caused the car to abruptly decelerate. The shop confirmed that the high pressure fuel pump did fail and with high probability took out all components associated with the fuel system. The recall/ safety issue only covered the high pressure fuel pump to 10 years or 120k miles. I have a 141k on the vehicle the issue is the safety aspect of the vehicle suddenly decelerating when at a safe driving speed with no way of knowing the issue with a the pump. These pumps and all components should be covered not only because of cost but because of the general issue of instant deceleration and the safety of not only the driver in the car but those that could be effected driving on the road with the car. This issue should not minimized by the manufacturer based on mileage or years of operation. It’s clearly an issue that is common and an issues that can have ramifications on the customers safety as well as those external of the vehicle.

Stall/loss of power while entering highway on ramp. Engine died and would not restart. After inspecting car found the gas tank to be filled with metal shavings which is indicative of a failed high pressure fuel pump. My year make and model vehicle has a recall on the hpfp for the same reason but my vin was supposedly not affected.

Vehicle is 100% bmw serviced for it's history, showroom to present. Vehicle had been smoking after sitting 2-3 days and driving. We'd park and see wisps of smoke coming from the wheelwells and engine bay. Alarming! Never witnessed open flame, but as the saying goes, if there's smoke... Questionable component: 328xd fuel sensor probe (bmw part #13-53-8-594-893 fuel feed line 135040 ) complaint/report pertains to fuel sensor probe failure and resultant fuel propagation(backfeeding/leaking fuel from sensor connection) into adjacent wiring/engine bay foils. Diagnostic system did not report sensor failure until extensive damage and hazard was realized. Bmw usa responded to report as not covered by warranty(high mile vehicle) and therefore not of responsibility of bmw. According to local bmw service team the event is not unusual and that several vehicles with same fail/error codes have exhibited similar fuel leakage/propagation/damages. Very probable fire hazard costly repairs; if system had detected failure when sensor failed we would have had it fixed. We reported the smoking several times but the service department didn't isolate the problem. We continued to drive the vehicle cross-country for 6+ months; each time the problem got worse. We got lucky repair bills came to almost $10k by the time we added all visits and the entire wiring bundle that had to be replaced due to fuel damage. Failed sensor repair is around $750? Bmw needs to implement a way to mitigate this problem to keep from having some potentially catastrophic/lethal endings. Similar problems that have contributed to vehicle fires in these bmw vehicles: 1) heater box malfunctions 2) pcv valve 3) coolant leak

Have been waiting since march to get safety recall no. 21v-907:egr cooler completed. Bmw of henderson is the dealership. I called bmw customer relations and they told me each dealer is independently owned and they can’t do anything for me. This dealership is notorious for poor service.
