MY 2017 CHEVY Volt IS EXPERIENCING THE APPARENTLY INFAMOUS ?SHIFT TO PARK? ISSUE. NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TIME I PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO POWER DOWN THE VEHICLE. A MESSAGE POPS UP ON THE DISPLAY THAT SAYS ?ACTION REQUIRED: SHIFT TO PARK.? I THEN HAVE TO DEPRESS THE TRIGGER MECHANISM ON THE GEAR SHIFT AND JIGGLE THE WHOLE SHIFTER BEFORE THE CAR REGISTERS IT IS IN PARK AND POWERS DOWN PROPERLY. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG MULTIPLE CHEVY CARS BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. MY CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE ?BUMPER TO BUMPER? WARRANTY, SO IT WILL COST A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT MY FAULT. WHILE I AM NOT AWARE OF ANYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH SHIFTING TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN PARK, IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT THIS MECHANISM IS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY. IF SOMEONE ELSE WERE TO DRIVE MY CAR AND NOT REALIZE THEY NEED TO JIGGLE THE SHIFTER, THEY MIGHT LEAVE MY CAR ON AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. EVERY SINGLE TIME I TAKE THIS TO GET AN OIL CHANGE OR OTHER MISC SERVICE, I HAVE TO SHOW THE TECHNICIAN HOW TO GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF. THIS ISSUE IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND WELL KNOWN. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF THE SHIFT MECHANISM SO THAT ALL OF US CAN FEEL SAFE AND REASSURED WHILE DRIVING.

After driving and when stopped, when car is placed in park, there is a notice on the dash that states, "action required" "shift to park", even though the gear indicator shows the car is indeed in park. Because of this, the car won't shut off and sends out warning beeps from the horn. This could be a safety hazard because the driver does not know if the car is in park or not, and does not know if the car is secure from rolling.

The vehicle does not recognize it has been shifted into park, which does not allow the vehicle to be turned off. Dash display states? Action required, shift to park?. This happens consistently and is a known issue by chevrolet. Yet they have not issued any recall. It is known as the? Shift to park? Issue. There is no work-around for the issue other than shifting back and forth into gears, sometimes hundreds of times, before the error clears. For example: my wife took my daughter to an emergency room and could not get the vehicle to turn off. She tried to clear the error a few times before having to leave the vehicle running in the parking lot.

Must shift to park; car will not shut off. Already in park, and pushed very hard to make electrical contact. Shift out and back to park several times to make contact and allow car to shut off. At first, only once a week, now almost every day.

While attempting to turn the car off- a message appears saying "action required- shift into park". The car is in park and the dash registers that it is in park, the gear shift is locked in park but the system doesn't sense that it is in park and won't let the car shut off. Has progressively gotten worse and more frequent.

Keep getting action required message "shift to park" even though the car has been powered off. It takes about 5 trys now to actually power off the car, have to repeatedly turn the car on and off to actually power off the vehicle.

Vehicle will not turn off while in park and a? Shift to park? Notice is displayed. Vehicle needs to be shifted in and out of park several times for it to register. Happens intermittently. The manufacturer is aware of the issue and has bulletin # 19-na-206 issued - a recall should be mandatory as the vehicle cannot be left running unattended. It is a violation of california vehicle code 22515(a) no person driving, or in control of, or in charge of, a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand on any highway unattended without first effectively setting the brakes thereon and stopping the motor thereof.

Whenever i put my vehicle in park and turn if off, the screen on the dash will say "please shift to park. " i will turn on my vehicle and then shift it to park again and turn it off. Sometimes it will stop notifying me after one time and other times i will have to turn it off and shift it to park, even though its in park, several times. The car will not turn off and i cannot leave the vehicle until it stops notifying me.

THIS VEHICLE HAS 84,500 MILES ON IT AS OF JUNE 2020. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. DURING A STATE MANDATED SAFETY INSPECTION IN JUNE 2020, BOTH OEM OUTBOARD REAR BRAKE SHOES WERE FOUND TO HAVE SEPARATED INTO 2 PIECES AND FAILED INSPECTION. THE SEMI-METALLIC BRAKE PAD HAD SEPARATED FROM ITS METAL BACKING PLATE. I BELIEVE THE TWO PARTS OF THE BRAKE PAD ASSEMBLY ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH AN ADHESIVE, AND THE ADHESIVE FAILED ON BOTH PADS IN SIMILAR FASHION. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS BRAKE PAD SEPARATION HAS OCCURRED TO A NUMBER OF CHEVY Volt VEHICLES. REGENERATIVE ELECTRIC BRAKING MEANS THAT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES (AND THUS THE BRAKE PADS) ARE RARELY USED ON THIS VEHICLE. THE BRAKES HAD NEVER BEEN SERVICED ON THIS VEHICLE, SO THE PADS WERE OEM. I HAVE RETAINED THE BRAKE PADS FOR REVIEW OR ANALYSIS.

CHEVY Volt 2016, SHIFTED INTO PARK, BUT CAR WARNING COMES UP "SHIFT TO PARK" AND THUS CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF.

When trying to turn the car off, the instrument panel will say "shift to park" even though the car is already in park. Then, the car will not turn off. This has happened multiple times, over many days, when the car is stationary, in any location, when you are attempting to turn the car off.

I'M GETTING A SHIFT TO PARK ERROR ON MY DISPLAY WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK, EVEN THOUGH ON THE DISPLAY, IT SHOWS THE CAR IS IN PARK. I'VE GOT TO WIGGLE THE SHIFTER FOR A BIT FOR IT TO RECOGNIZE THE CAR IS IN PARK. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2017 Volt.

I press the power button to turn off the car, it doesn't shut off. It announces "shift to park" message on the dashboard. Even i've already shifted into park. This started out happening once or twice a week, but now it seems to happen every day.

There is a "shift to park" warning that pops up on the gauge cluster when attempting to turn the car off while in park. Warning does not allow car to turn off. Putting on parking break does not cause warning to go away. This is the second time this warning has popped up in the 2 years of owning the car. The shifter was already replaced once and only seems to be a temporary fix.

I AM NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF MY 2017 CHEVY Volt. I JUST GOT IT USED LAST FALL (2019) AND HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN1 YEAR. WHEN I HIT THE ON/OFF BUTTON MY CAR STATES SHIFT TO PARK ALTHOUGH I AM IN PARK. IT STARTED OUT ONLY HAPPENING HERE AND THERE IN FEB 2020 AND NOW ITS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR. IT'S ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS MY CAR HAS TO JUST BE LEFT ON AT TIMES IN MY GARAGE OR AT WORK SINCE CANT SIT AND WAIT FOR FOR IT TO WAN TO SHUT OFF. .IN ORDER TO FIX IT WILL COST ME ALMOST 1K AND THIS ISSUE JUST HAPPENS TO START RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I HAVE SEEMS SO MANY OTHER VOLT OWNERS ( HUNDRED IS NOT THOUSANDS) WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND READY MANY FORUMS DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE. I'M SHOCKED THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET.

Shift to park problems. On occasion, the vehicle will not go into park when the shifter is in park. I get an error message to park. I have to either start the car, shift into drive, then back to park, or i shake the shifter until it acknowledges the park.

When i press the power button to turn off the car, it won't shut off. A message on the dash says i must "shift to park". Of course, i've already shifted into park. If i put the shifter back into the "l" position several times, eventually it will shut off. This problem is getting worse by the day. Now i need to repeat this process of shifting back and forth many many times to get it to shut off. This is the 2nd time it happens to this car. Gm replaced the shift assembly one year after i purchased the car to fix this exact same problem. The car was parked when this happened.

MY 2016 Chevrolet Volt IS EXHIBITING THE "SHIFT TO PARK" ISSUE. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, WHEN I SHIFT TO PARK AND ATTEMPT TO SHUT MY CAR OFF, IT ALERTS ME THAT I NEED TO SHIFT IN ORDER TO PARK. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON, THEN TURN IT OFF AGAIN, SOMETIMES I MOVE THE SHIFTER OR FLICK THE SHIFTER BUTTON TO FIX IT.
