2023 Tesla MODEL S
  • Date of Incident: Apr-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The horn button is too small and in a non-standard location that makes it difficult to reliably locate and push it when it is needed. Several times i have tried to locate the horn to avoid an accident or alert other drivers i am nearby, but i cannot locate or hit the small button in time. I have had to swerve out of my lane several times because of this. Fortunately, no cars have been behind me in the new lanes, but how much longer can i rely on that?

2023 Tesla MODEL X
  • Date of Incident: Apr-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING

The horn on the model x is a tiny button on the steering wheel. This is a safety issue and not instinctual in the event of an emergency.

2018 Tesla MODEL 3
  • Date of Incident: Apr-09, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: SUSPENSION

My car began producing very loud creaking noise at low speed. I brought the car into a tesla service center and the technician said that this was a well known issue with the upper control arm of the front suspension. He mentioned he performs this repair every day. I was given an estimate of approximately $200 to repair the suspension. I later receive an updated estimate of $1,850. Tesla states there was extensive damage to the front suspension. In addition to the upper control arms; the compliance and lateral links of the front suspension were torn. The technician confirmed that the torn components posed a safety risk. This was shocking as the car only had 33,500 miles on it. I asked about the expected wear life of these components. Tesla was unable to provide me with an answer. Later i was reading discussions of this issue on an owner's forum. Many owners report this issue and have replaced their front suspension two or three times only to have the issue reoccur. It appears that tesla knowingly sold vehicles with defective components, creating a safety issue; and have placed the burden of repairing and replacing these components on consumers.

2023 Tesla MODEL Y
  • Date of Incident: Apr-12, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

When using auto pilot/traffic aware adaptive cruise control at highway speeds (55 to 75mph), vehicle will on occasion, slam on the brakes and steer to the right for no apparent reason. When this has happened in the past, we would press on accelerator peddle, to quickly recover from the braking to prevent a rear end collision and continue down the road. This last time (april 12, 2024) however, pressing the accelerator peddle made no difference until auto pilot was disengaged. Fortunately we were in the right most lane and was able to pull off to the side of the road to prevent a rear end collision from a van that was behind us. There were no warnings or messages that were displayed to indicate what had cased the braking. I talked to my local tesla service department approximately a year ago about this issue and said that tesla is aware of the "phantom braking" problem, but were unsure if or when a fix would be in the works. We did capture the dash cam video of the last phantom braking incident, that shows a clear road, with no objects or shadows that may have triggered the event. The dash cam video is 38mb in size, too large to upload.

2015 Tesla MODEL S
  • Date of Incident: Mar-18, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: STRUCTURE:BODY

This incident happened on march 18, 2024 at approximately 4:20 pm central time. My daughter pulled out of the school parking lot after school. As soon as she pulled on to the main road she noticed a warning light pop up saying hood latch not detected. About one minute later the hood flew open very aggressively hitting the windshield and blocking her view. Tesla vehicles are equipped with a second safety latch that should prevent this hood from popping up. My daughter was blinded by the hood and could not see while in traffic. Thankfully, she was able to avoid running into another vehicle, object or off the road. I took the vehicle into tesla on march 23, 2024 which was the first available appointment i was able to get. They inspected the vehicle and said they were not responsible for the hood flying open. I tried explaining to them the part that failed was the part that was apart of a recall in 2022 (the hoods 2nd safety latch). They told me my issue was different because they checked my latch in january 2022 and it was fine. They said my latch failed do to normal wear and tear. It just gave out. They charged me $235 for inspecting my hood. Since that day i have been trying to contact tesla's corporate office to get them to repair my vehicle and refund my $235 but i have not had any luck. I am the original owner of this vehicle. I have had nothing but problems with this car from the moment i purchased the $100k vehicle. The company had to replaced the touch screen twice, the high voltage battery once, both headlights were replace. The car was in the shop several times for the leaking sunroof. Finally, the warranty ran on the car and the sunroof still to this day does not open. I went to the shop after the warranty expired and they were happy to tell me the car is not covered and it would cost $1300 to repair the sunroof after they had been patching it up with black tape. There are several reports of tesla owners having this issue and tesla need to step up.

2015 Tesla MODEL S
  • Date of Incident: Apr-04, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: SUSPENSION

Ive been notified that my front upper, lower arms, and bushings on my suspension are damaged. Tesla has sent me an massive bill to replace the parts on the car that i am not able to provide. As a looked up and talked to other tesla s owners, this apparently is a major issues with all of them and very common. So common that china issued a recall requiring tesla to fix this manufacture defect of wreaked and poorly manufacture parts. Why is the us not forcing this yet? They should be held liable for their fault mechanic engineer of the vehicle that is costing us thousands of dollars to repair and replace even at very low mileage invoice attached. This was the cost after they gave me discount for replacing a part i did not authorize. This was an issue with the dealership still.

2023 Tesla MODEL 3
  • Date of Incident: Apr-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER

While the car was on the full self-driving it hit a metal block on the road. After the accident there was leakage behind the left front wheel of blue liquid and was suspected to be battery coolant. The car was not drivable due to safety concern. The car functions were degraded and air conditioning was not working. Sensors were on and off. The self-driving could not identify block and did not slow down. The self-driving system has major defect which is not safe to use at all.

2022 Tesla MODEL Y
  • Date of Incident: Apr-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I was performing a 3-point turn on a residential street. While reversing during the turn the automatic emergency braking enabled and slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a complete halt instantly. This caused my head to hit the headrest with enough force that i have headaches and brain fog the next day, indicating a concussion. I was 10 feet from the nearest parked vehicle when reversing; the aeb kicked in erroneously. This is not the first time that tesla's aeb has erroneously and dangerously engaged while i was driving.

2018 Tesla MODEL 3
  • Date of Incident: Apr-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: SEAT BELTS

This is a follow up to issue 11584898. Tesla service states that due to the seat belt fault, the vehicle is not safe to drive until repair is complete. Tesla is also not providing a loaner vehicle until the vehicle is repaired. This puts many model 3 and model y drivers at risk due to limited tesla and 3rd party service centers, limited service center schedule availability, and high cost of repair.
