“engine maintenance required” appeared on the screen and immediately took the vehicle to my local dealership. Dealer claims “engine coolant bypass valve” has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced. They are charging $697. 54 for the repair. After a little research online including nhtsa. Gov this seems to be an extremely common issue and needs to be recalled.

Vehichle has stranded me twice with multiple error messages when i try to start it. All kinds of lights go on and off on the dash and messages include: parking brake unavailable, voltage abnormality steering power low, hybrid system not available, braking power low-stop in a safe place, antilock brake system malfuntion, rear cross traffic alert unavailable, blindspot monitoring unavailable, pre-collision system unavailable, visit dealer. It makes all kind of weird noises and vibrations in the break peddle also during this. I have been told this is a problem with low battary of the 12v but that battery is charged by the hybrid battary and does nothing but run electronic features, does not start the vehichle. Have read this has happened to people while actually driving the vehichle, i am scared this will cause an accident. 2 year old vehicle.

Over the last 4 years i have had 2 prior occurrence where i've lost power turning or stopping, causing the engine to stall. Both times the vehicle was taken to our mechanic and he replaced the connectors to the battery. On january 18th, 2024, while turning off of a rural highway onto the street we live on i again lost power and the engine stalled and smelled a faint electrical smell. I called my mechanic and he said he could get it in on january 22nd. We checked all connections to the battery, made sure the battery terminals were clean. The morning of january 22nd, while on my way to the mechanic the vehicle in front of me stopped quickly. I started to stop a little quicker than normal, causing the front of the vehicle to tip down. I immediately lost power and the engine died, causing me to rear end the vehicle in front of me. The collisions was at slow speed, but it also caused disproportionate damage to my vehicle. Over the weekend of january 20th, we became aware if a recall for 2013 to 2018 rav4s regarding the tops of newer batteries being smaller and causing problems with the battery shifting causing loss of power and potential fires. We strongly believe this recall needs to be extended to the 2012s.

2020 RAV4 coolant bypass valve problem. This is an issue that is been happening in the 2019 and 2020 models even with less than 55,000 miles on it. My vehicle milage is 52,000 and now I'm having this problem and the dealer is charging $700.00 to fix the issue. I thought that Toyota vehicles were reliable but this is ridiculous.

#16260-F0010 B/0 PART COOLANT BY-PASS LOST Vehicle is a 2019 RAV4, odometer reads 37849. I've had a persistent "Engine Maintenance Required" notification on the MID screen for the last 1500 miles or so, literally the day after getting a scheduled service at the dealer. I initially thought it was just the service reminder, so I didn't think much of it, and just ignored it. But eventually it became so annoying that I tried to clear the notification, and couldn't-- and upon further research, it turns out the notification is probably the result of a leaking coolant bypass valve. I haven't noticed any loss in coolant, haven't experienced any abnormal engine temps, and haven't had any CELs. I've also noticed that the notification only comes on now when I have the A/C turned on.

The vehicles “engine maintenance required. Visit your dealer” notice appeared on the dashboard screen. Changed the oil, reset the scheduled maintenance button, ran diagnostics from the auto store, and it still appeared. I just bought my 2020 RAV4 in November with the lifetime powertrain warranty. By April, I had a “Engine Maintenance Required” light that would not go away. I took it to the dealership and it was my coolant bypass valve. $800 later, it’s fixed. Not covered under any warranty. Very common issue that Toyota charges a lot to fix.
