My sunroof spontaneously shattered/exploded during a standstill at a stoplight while waiting to enter a freeway. The glass sunroof panel appeared slightly curved upwards (caused by built up interior pressure? ) and the shattered hole is right below my roof crossbar. There is no damage to metal roof surface or crossbar. My interior roof slider was closed when my sunroof shattered as it could have compromised my family's safety. After the incident, i drove my vehicle to the nearest dealership (capistrano mazda) but they didn't lift a finger besides taking a couple pics and suggested i call their 800 customer experience center number. Since it was a saturday, i reached out through mazda's customer experience email. I didn't hear back from mazda until 4 days later on 4/17/24 requesting additional information (address, vin # & mileage). After providing requested information, i didn't hear back from mazda until 4/23 suggesting i bring my vehicle back to capistrano mazda dealership for a diagnosis. Almost 10 days had passed with no action from mazda while i still had to commute to/from work dealing with loud incessant cabin noise from shattered sunroof open cavity.

2017 Mazda MAZDA6
  • Date of Incident: Apr-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-24, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The infotainment system on my car randomly repeatedly and frequently registers inputs when i am not making any. This has happened more times than i can count over the past several years. It will call people in my contacts, change settings on my car including safety settings, it will blast the volume, turn the volume all the way down, etc. This causes me to repeatedly take my eyes off the road to undo all of the unwarranted inputs which is a safety concern and has almost caused an accident at least once. There is an open recall for model years 2014 to 2016 for this exact issue. I am not sure why there is no 2017 recall since this is the exact same problem of "ghost touch" in previous model years.

2019 Mazda CX-5
  • Date of Incident: Apr-19, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

The cylinder head cracked and caused oil to spill out. This was inspected at towne mazda in orchard park, ny. I was driving ~50 miles when the issue occurred, and had driven approximately 40 of the 50 miles when me and my sister pulled over and noticed my engine smoking and the burning smell to be pungent. Had i not pulled over, it could have led to engine misfire and damage to other parts of my vehicle. The dealer confirmed the need for a new cylinder head and parts, and is currently repairing the vehicle. The component was not recently inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance. During the course of driving, after about ~35 miles, the oil pressure light turned on. I drove roughly 5 more miles before i pulled the car over to have it towed to my mazda dealership.

2023 Mazda CX-5
  • Date of Incident: Apr-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-23, 2024
  • Failed components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN, and BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS

Slowly and cautiously entered parking lot of a small strip mall. Proceeded to a parking space located in between two parked vehicles. Maneuvering into parking space i removed foot from gas pedal toward the break pedal; before foot made contact with break pedal the vehicle accelerated on its own surging over the cement parking bumper, over bushes, through the grass, down the curb and into the street. I jammed on the breaks. Lifting foot from break pedal i did not touch the gas pedal in fear the surge might happened again. Instead i allowed the vehicle to coast as i guided vehicle to the curb. In all the commotion, while trying to control vehicle safely i noticed the dashboard transmission indicator lights flash from park to drive to neutral. Safety issues for me and family at risk because we had no control over the acceleration of the vehicle.
