  • Date of Incident: Feb-18, 2022
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-25, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING, and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Before the incident my mercedes started to pull away from me each time i attempted to press the brakes. At times the when i would press the brakes nothing would happen at all as if i wasn’t pressing them at all. Well on the night of february 18,2022 i was coming around a curb and when i went to press the brakes, my mercedes began to sway slightly but the brakes never kicked in. The result of the incident totaled my vehicle, took out two transformers and a light pole, and costed me a careless operation ticket, the storage and towing of the vehicle from the incident, to the tow yard, then back home, as well as paying the ticket and having to pay the dmv. There is still an unknown amount due to demco (the energy company) for the light pole, two transformers, after hours workers and the actual worked and labor they performed. The recall flyers hadn’t been mailed out until a few months after the wreck so i had no knowledge of the issues happening nor the fact that driving the vehicle could be detrimental.

The head unit for the sound system begins a reset loop when navigating radio station and/or connecting bluetooth device. Seems to be a glitch in the head unit software. This is preventing use of navigation/gps screen, backup camera, and bluetooth connection.

My vehicle jerks back and forth at low acceleration, and it often goes into limp mode which makes the vehicle only drive at around 20 mph at most. I was on the highway, when this happened. I have a 722. 9 transmission, and this is a common problem. Why is the snapping recalled? I have had a checked with mercedes-benz of music city when i had gotten my recall work done, and they said that it just needs a whole new transmission. They said that they had never seen an issue like this. They want $16,000. I have been reading and reading and reading i don't know how they have not seen the issue when it's very very common. Again my question is, why has this not been recalled? There are soldering issues for a speed solenoid sensor, and the tcu it makes it go bad. What is going on, and why has this issue not been addressed? I have two toddlers that i drive in my vehicle every single day. God forbid we're not so lucky next time. The only reason why we did not get hit this time, is because we were on the highway at a slow hour of the day. My son is disabled and we are on the highway and in the car a whole lot. If this happens during rush hour, we will be no doubt smacked into by another vehicle.

I was driving my van and out of nowhere it locked up and power steering malfunctioned. I was in ny at the time. Tried to get mb to help explain what was happening. Said they would send a tech out. Found out they were going to send a tow truck and that was it. I had several pups on board and had to get them safe. So i figured out how to drive it with no power steering all the way back to houston. While driving we got into some rain. Which for whatever reason the rain kicked the power steering on for just 5 or less seconds. This kept happening on and off while in wet road conditions. I was freaked out as the change made the steering go from impossible to beyond sensitive. We could have so easily flipped had i not been paying attention and driving at a slow speed. This also made all the safety features not accessible. No blind spot, cruise control, lane change or any of the important functions this van is equipped with. I would like to note that mb had to replace the engine due to a defect. Took 4 plus months. I have had issues ever since. Engine light came on all 4 of my trips. I know one that was the reason is vox sensor. Fixed it and then happened next trip. Plus other sensors replaced. This van has been horrible! Bought it and was told they run up to 500k and these new engines they expect to see a million miles. I can’t even get it to 100k i called mb usa and started a complaint. They acted concerned and would contact me within 48 hours. Never to hear back from anyone. This was the same response when the engine malfunctioned. I was going to be given a loaner van and never heard or could connect with anyone.

Exhaust smells started coming through the air vents while driving, after the catalytic converter was changed. I discovered through my own inspection, that exhaust was leaking at the connection point between the catalytic converter and the turbocharger. The fumes were entering the airflow for the passenger cabin through the cabin air intake drain valve because it is in the engine compartment. I realized that this is pouring carbon monoxide into the cabin ventilation system.

Rear trunk lid seal leaking water in rear cargo compartment caused damage to fuel pump. I was driving on a main busy road when without warning the car shut off. The traffic light was about to change so the person behind me was slowing down luckily. There was no warning light, indicator or sound the car just stopped. It stopped in the middle of the road impeding traffic as it stopped near a 4- way intersection at a busy time of day. The car was towed to dealer after extensive examination it was found to be a leak in rear trunk seal. There was no visible damage to seal or water damage in cargo area. I was told this is problem know to mercedes as they have issued a bulletin on how to repair it. This has been happening for years without a resolution to this problem. I was told in my case it had been leaking over an extended amount of time and there was know way to discover it until the damage is done. I find that hard to believe that mercedes would not recall this and find a remedy before it results in a serious accident or death. A car stopping on busy road or highway with a fast speed of traffic following is a tragedy waiting to happen. I had no warning of the potential danger i was in until it happened. The damage it causes is around $1,600 for a rubber piece that gets loose and allows water to damage the fuel pump. And because that piece is not covered under extended warranty the burden is put on the owner which it unfair to say the least.
