The rear window seal is severely breaking apart, severely cracked and others are melting. This may affect condensation inside the vehicle and potentially be a safety hazard. Several reports on this problem can be seen at porsche forums. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and is a potential safety hazard on many porsche vehicles.
Massive fuel leak. Appears to be fairly common amongst other owners. Required engine out to repair.
A leak in a high pressure fuel line was releasing gas on top of the motor. I smelled gas, and had vehicle towed to the dealership where i purchased the car. The dealership has confirmed the cause of the fuel leak and ordered the replacement fuel line. Since it’s a leak in this fuel line, no check engine lights or other warnings flagged the problem. In my opinion, this is a significant safety problem that could lead to a fire and potential injury.
The pcm unit which controls the cars computers keeps shutting on and off saying do not drive. Get service ….. This has happened on many cars and there was a class action suit regarding a recall. It is now closed and i was never notified.
Tail light fall off the car while driving, catching it dangling from the car holding by only one wire. Upon inspection, they came off due to a broken plastic lug that was holding the taillights together. It appears that porsche changed the taillight mounting design in the 991 after the 2013 model year, adding a metal piece to keep it together even after the plastic cracks, melts, or fails. Mine is 2012 so it will cost us a fortune for get it fixed, for something it was clearly a design failure from the beginning.
The cameras for the surround view incl backup and front and side cameras intermittent stop working, sometimes no camera is working, sometimes one or more are working randomly. Contacted porsche northamerica and even the topic is all over the internet forums already porsche denied that there is an issue. Talked to porsche dealership and they also denied that there is an issue. The backup camera and surround view on my car is not working, sometimes several days in a row, sometimes just for one drive, sometimes partly. I report this because i believe that the backup camera and surround view is a safety feature and not just a comfort feature. If the car is equipped with such feature it should work and the car manufacture should fi software or other issues related to it like other safety features.
There is an active spoiler that has a brake light built into it. There is a design issue with the wiring for the light in the spoiler. The brake light harness is worn out by the movement of the spoiler causing failure of the brake light. This meams there is no 3rd brake light when the spoiler is automatically activated.
The taillamp housing failed, and taillamp fell out of the vehicle. Online research shows that this is a design defect that porsche learned of early in the "991. 1" generation cars, as it is reported by multiple owners at multiple sites online. Well, happened to my early 991. 1 also. Porsche recognized the fatigue-failure within a year or so of launch, and instituted a fairly simple fix, by adding a metal reinforcement to the backside of the taillamp, to reinforce the insufficient plastic-only initial design. They launched this revised taillamp into 2014my or early 2015my cars (not sure when). No failures since. Porsche attempted to sweep this defect 'under the rug' by not recalling all earlier cars to institute a fix, but rather would just repair cars that failed under warranty. Porsche should not accept taillamps falling off of cars, especially at owners expense (and porsche pricing!! Ouch). Please investigate.
Heard a ticking noise while driving. Pulled over, on freeway. It was not a safe situation parked on side of a major freeway. Turned off car to look around the engine and found nothing. Started the car again and it died within 5 seconds. The electric system completely died after and would not crank. Got it towed to dealer after waiting for tow truck 3 hours. I was really scared sitting in my that someone would crash into me. Dealer has now the engine apart diagnosing it. It is a failed engine and will need a brand new motor.
On september 23, 2023, in the late afternoon, the control arm of my porsche 911 (front driver side) snapped while making a routine stop at a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, driving at approximately 25mph. There was smoke that came from the front driver side wheel as the control arm had snapped and that wheel was being dragged. No warning lamps or error messages were displayed on my vehicle dashboard prior to this malfunction. I gave direction to the dealership for a thorough review of the damage. The shop repairmen indicated that the control arm had snapped along with other components as a result, and they provided an estimated quote for the necessary repairs. However, when i inquired about the possibility of the damage being caused by an external object, the shop foreman was unable to identify any such impact. Seeking a second opinion, i decided to take my car to an independent shop for a more in-depth assessment. Surprisingly, they too were unable to find any evidence of an impact that would have led to the control arm failure. Their theory suggested a potential quality or parts issue as the root cause. Fortunately, there were no injuries as the road was not in heavy use, however at highway speeds this could've caused fatal injuries.
