2017 Volkswagen GOLF ALLTRACK
  • Date of Incident: Nov-14, 2023
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-29, 2024
  • Failed components: STEERING

The clock spring assembly on my vehicle failed. In may 2023 volkswagen of america issued an extended warranty coverage notice for the part. After doing some research and determining the part failure, i called my local vw dealer to report the problem. They told me they would be happy to schedule an appointment to look at my vehicle but they could not schedule my vehicle for service for at least a month. Considering this issue to be an extreme safely issue and realizing i did not want to drive around in my vehicle for over a month without air bag protection, i had my vehicle repaired at an independent service facility. I have had several communications with vw of america (attached) and they refuse to reimburse me for this repair.

2022 Volkswagen TAOS
  • Date of Incident: Jul-30, 2022
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-29, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE and VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

1. Car is unsafe starting from a stop and after slowing down to accelerate out of a turn. In both instances there is a significant lack of response w/ the accelerator where it won't actually respond until there's about 2-3k rpms. This makes it extremely dangerous at intersections because you can't trust that it will accelerate in a responsive manner. Many times, the car will respond as if you've dropped the clutch on a manual transmission - jerking around like a 15yo learning to drive a stick. The problem has not been confirmed by dealer - they were supposed to review at our 1st year maintenance but didn't then wanted to charge me to come back. It has not been inspected by others. There are no warning lights. 2. The coolant level on car consistently drops despite low mileage (1st time was around 9k) and less than a year old. It's a risk because it may be a head gasket or engine issue. The dealer did not find anything, but it continues to go through coolant. Advised to keep an eye on it. ? Not inspected by others. Yes low coolant warning light - first appeared multiple times around 9k.

2023 Volkswagen ID.4
  • Date of Incident: Apr-26, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-27, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I was driving down a highway traveling 59 mph around 5:20am when my infotainment system and lights inside all went dark. The speedometer stayed lit up but changed to an alternate color while i was traveling. I slowed down to make sure i could brake and that all was working. Within about 20-30 seconds the whole system restarted and came back online. This was not necessarily a safety hazard, however the sheer shock of it made cause for my safety because i reacted to it in a somewhat panic sort of way by braking rapidly. I found this forum where others have reported the exact same thing. There were no warning lamps messages or any notice of the occurrence. It all started back up as if nothing happened. 2023 Volkswagen ATLAS
  • Date of Incident: Apr-18, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Apr-27, 2024
  • Failed components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL and FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Driving down 4 lane state highway adaptive cruise on. Car in front of us pulled into left turn lane, was no longer in front of us. Dash lit up emergency notification and slammed us on breaks. Reported to vw told “likely a sensor issue tech just not there yet”. Happened again on state hwy. Traveling at 65 mph. No cars on hwy with us emergent message on dash and slammed on breaks. Recently happened when pulling off from stop light through 4 lanes of traffic. I was first car going between 5-8 mph. Dash lit up with emergency notification. Immediately braked and engine turned off. Car had already been taken into dealer for other electrical issues with infotainment and consistently told nothing wrong. Last time taken in for infotainment reported the braking issue. That is when they made statement about sensors. This could cause terrible car accident especially traveling at high speed or stopping in intersection where could be hit from behind or hit by oncoming traffic. Taken to vw multiple times. No problems ever identified. Only changes infotainment system after i brought video evidence of what was happening. Cannot provide them with evidence of this occurrence. Last time take. In had no loaner available car was not left and evaluated bc of disagreement with service.
